    Default Anne Rice

I miss Anne Rice. I grew up on the Vampire Chronicles, which for me and a whole generation of teenygoths were Scripture. I know she's had a rough time as of late losing her husband. I just wish she would bring back the old spirit of the Chronicles. She's working on a series of new Chrisitanity themed books. What was your favorite Anne Rice novel? It doesn't have to be a Chronicle book. Mine are QOTD and Ramses.

Last year I was able to reacquire all of her Vampire novels from ebay.... cheap. I started at the beginning and am working my way through. I have to space them between other books as I can't take it all at once.

QOTD was my fave. It seemed like every chapter was written in a different style. I know it was meant to be as every chapter was meant to be written by a different Vamp but my god it was done so well!!!

Im not sure I could read the Chronicles again, I think I might miss my Teens too much and feel sad. Everyday was so atmostpheric back then.

I like most of Anne Rice's books, but I think my favorite is Memnoch The Devil. She did a really great job exploring the role of Satan, and I wonder if that had a role in her current "come to Jesus" phase.

I miss her brillant genius as well! Not sure a Christianity-based series will interest me but glad she's writing again!
The original "Interview With The Vampire" (I have a first edition!) is still my very favorite Lestat is SUCH a juicy-vamp/maniac!
Did you know she also penned a VERY erotic "Beauty" series of books? Sometimes hard to find but OMG they are borderline obscene and such fun to read!
Got to tour her home in the Garden District of New Orleans @ 15 years ago duing a "historic homes tour",it was painted lavender and just amazing and she also has a fabulous collection of dolls...she lost her only daughter to leukemia (actually inspried her to write "Interview" and her dolls are like her babies...she is an extrordinary woman who has suffered deeply.

I read all 3 of the Sleeping Beauty series and hated them all. I read them as a request from some female. I sure don't know why I did that.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

That's such a tough decision. I loved QOTD and Memnoch. The Witching Hour Chronicles were also a fave.

And threlayer is nuts, her Sleeping Beauty series was very well written. But then again, I'm into the whole s&m thing. Not hard core, but I try to experience all aspects of sex with my husband.

I'm not nuts; I just didnt like the D/s premise. AS you say the writing was good; guess that's why I stuck with it. Interesting scene with that kitty.

My favorite so far was Taltos and I also really liked the first one in the witch series. I have one of the religious theme ones but have not read it yet.

Ugh, I hate it when the rich and famous are saved by Cheeses.

My favorite would probably be The Vampire Lestat, but Servant of the Bones was excellent as well. Even though she wrote it only for the quick cash, I also liked Ramses the Damned since I am into the Egyptian stuff. Hence my favorite part of all was the bit in Queen of the Damned where Lestat finds the statue-like original Egyptian vampires, for which I strongly suspect she was inspired by this Middle Kingdom husband and wife statuary ensemble (click on 'view image' at the top):

The wife of Rahotep even looks a bit like Anne Rice. If Middle Kingdom sculpture is discussed, these two will come up eventually, it's a given. But otherwise not well known. The 3/4 closeup views of the faces are more impressive.

I bought Sleeping Beauty or whatever for an old ex, we started long distance and I used to read to her on the phone, etc. But she (Rice) just couldn't stop with the slave boys buggering each other, which made it a joke at best. The constant gay vampire crap was merely annoying and usually low key, until the Body Thief or whatever when she dropped all restraint and had Lestat lusting for buggery himself, then she lost me. The last book in the series I never read.

Feast of All Saints is all right, but only because it's full of (historically inaccurate, but still fascinating) black people. I'm always ready to read historical fiction about black people since it is so incredibly rare. Also the writing is decent partly because it's not written in her usual styles.

Found all the other books of hers boring, including the porn (it wasn't quite over the top enough to have Gor-style humor value).

It's funny too, I read a ton of vampire/witch/etc fiction as a young teen girl, and anne rice's was the only boring stuff. even fred saberhagen's dracula stuff was less boring.

octavia butler's novel fledgling is an interesting subversion of the tropes of vampiric superstrength and alluringness (as popularised by anne rice).
