Sad My cat has loose bowels and really bad gas and I am scared :(

My boy cat Hannibal has the runs. I am so scared. He just went into the closet and farted like 5 times in a row and then the smell came so I went to check and my poor boy is just...pooping. His lil booty is stained. My baby

He is drinking water...I boiled him some rice and chicken... if this isn't better by morning I am taking him to the vet. I just got off the phone with the vet. I'm trying the rice n chicken and I used the bathing cat wipe to wipe his bottom so he doesn't lick his butt and circulate the stuff that's coming out back in.

But I love my babies and my lil fat man Hannibal is sick

He eats damn near everything under the sun, even his own fur and my girl cat's fur too. I hope he didn't eat anything really bad.

He's still acting normal... his eyes aren't crazy looking. I keep all the chemicals and stuff locked up with a kiddie proof lock. I even keep my bar soap up high cuz he's nibbled at that before. So I know it can't be poison. Maybe some carpet or some lint or something?

    I'm scared.

I hope it's just stress or something cuz we travel a lot.

    My baby

Pray for my kitty to get better.

I sound like a retard but animal lovers will understand.

Kaopectate formulation (and its clones) on the shelves NOW is poisonous to cats (salicylic acid, aspirin). The older stuff, kaolin and pectin, works according to a friend. Maybe a druggist can whip up some for you.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

*hug* I hope kitty gets better soon! It could be as simple as a lil' tummy upset, but if not the vet will have him back to new in no time!

He probably just got into something he wasn't supposed to. Cats get diarrhea all the time. He'll be fine.

    Thanks u guys.

He seemed to be responding to the rice n chicken pretty well but I still took him to the vet. They said he looked okay, mildly dehydrated but fine.

They gave him some fluids subcutaneously so his back was all puffed up from the fluids. They took a culture so I'll find out in a few days if it's a parasite or anything.

It's not solid yet but it's not pure liquid any more.

He eats every fucking thing... I think he'd eat himself. But even through him eating plastic, phone book pages, carpet, my hair, etc...he's never had the runs as of yet so it worried me.

Did you get the results? Diarrhoea isn't usually something to panic about in cats, but definitely if anything happens that seems "wrong" for your animals it's worth going to the vet. It's surprising how often people are really embarrassed by bringing in their cat because s/he seems down, and it turns out to be an abscess/UTI because cats just don't show anything unless they are in excruciating pain.

Generally with diarrhoea if there are no other symptoms the first thing to do is starve for 24 hours, then try on their normal food (if they're on wet and dry go for just the dry) and if it comes back try the chicken and rice (because the low res prescription food is basically the equivalent of cooked chicken and rice anyway - though chicken is a common allergy in cats but you'd know about it pretty quickly since most dry food has chicken meal). More than 2 days and they probably need antibiotics.

Obviously you don't want rat poison or anything in your house, it's just not worth it for your pets, and also chocolate is poisonous to cats as well as dogs. Oh and there are a whole list of plants cats react to, lilys in particular are really really poisonous so watch for that (wouldn't give diarrhoea though). Those are the only general health things I can think of off the top of my head apart from if you have a male cat urinating inappropriately/straining/with blood in urine it's urgent they go to the vet because male cats die from blocked urethra's with alarming regularity (obviously not relevant to diarrhoea though lol).

Glad he seemed overall OK, the dehydration would just be from the diarrhoea. Hope he's feeling better!

    Amberhoney,

Short term diarrhea in cats is not that worrisome. But if it becomes chronic then it can be the symptoms of underlying problems. I had a cat that battled the condition for years. Unfortunately I was too stupid to realize at the time that by feeding him the Science Diet recommended by the vet was just making his situation worse and worse. For anyone using Science Diet food read the ingredients and you will be appalled.

By changing my cats diet from dry food to a high quality wet food (no animal by products or corn) did the trick and his IBD was under control. Cats are carnivores and not designed to eat much of the stuff in poor quality dty food.

There is a great group on Yahoo (Feline IBD) group that helped my with my cats chronic IBD.

    Hope your kitty feels better

Hey you guys. I still haven't gotten the results cuz they didn't call and I didn't take him back in. His poop is back solid again, just real stinky. Really stinky. He is passing out some corn so I think he probably ate some corn off my plate and it might have constipated him then gave him the runs and now things are getting back to normal. If you turn your back and he's around, he will eat almost anything on your plate. He ran off with an entire chicken breast before from KFC.

I really didn't think it was a parasite, I'm just paranoid. Plus they woulda called me. I gotta take them both in for their once a year thing in like 3 weeks so unless anything changes, I'll just let him be. He's not eating any dry food right now. He's eating all home made stuff right now and I'm monitoring it all. I seperated their food and water. Girl cat's up way high, fat boy's down on the floor. He's too fat to jump onto my dining room table to get her food.
