    Default Accidental discovery! A good one, too.

    So, tonight I ordered pizza for dinner cause we had no food in the house and didn't feel like going shopping. I was waiting for it to come and was pretty hungry and needed to munch on something. So, I hard-boiled an egg (the only thing left to eat in the house) and snacked on that. Then my pizza came, and I was only able to put down one slice before feeling stuffed! Now, we've eaten at this place before and I can usually put down 3-4 slices with no prob. I can with any pizza, really. I've eaten a whole medium to myself before!
    It had to be the protein in the egg that made me feel full. I've heard of drinking a big glass of water right before you eat, and that will help you scarf less, but it never worked for me. This actually worked!!

    I don't eat too crappy most of the time, we try to be relatively healthy, but I am a portion whore. I eat wayyyyy too much and really have been wanting to find a good way to get this under control.

    The egg trick......new diet craze??? We'll see! I'm gonna try it again tomorrow and see if there's a pattern.

    oh yeah...def works...one year when I needed to shed some pounds to fit into a tiny bridemaid dress, I ate a egg whites every morning with asparagus or salsa. I lost the weight quick.

    was the egg the first thing you ate all day? when i havent eaten all day i can only eat a little bit when i finally do eat...i guess cuz my stomach is smaller...no idea why

    No....I had breakfast and a small bowl of noodles for lunch...I was just starving cause I worked out for like 2 hours.

    I tried it again today....it worked again. This time it was with Chinese food, which I also love and can eat scary amounts of. I had one plate and was done.

    I guess whatever works....string cheese, orange juice......Totally cool though. I really need to control my portions and this seems to be doing the trick.

    That's awesome that works for you!

    What works for me is Campbells Soup at Hand Creamy Chicken. It's warm and filling. I think fat content also has something to do with filling people up. That's why it's so easy to gain weight even tho people eat diet foods - they don't fill them up and they just keep consuming more calories.

    ^ That is so true ! Its one of my biggest downfalls when I work out hard. I try to bring a protein drink with me when I rememebr.

    Protein has been proven to make you feel fuller faster. It is so much healthier than those pills they give people that do the same thing.

    satiety is a very individual thing. i cannot feel satiated on non-meat proteins, but there are plenty of people who feel satiated on eggs, or nuts, or cheese, or lentils, or combinations thereof.

    i find eggs specifically to be very good wake-up food-- the protein in eggs works better than coffee for me, especially if they are boiled.

    Eggs are excellent: the protein and the fats are good for you. I have some, and my hunger is relieved. I also get a mental and physical boost.

    I eat eggs before work religiously. I don't like to eat alot before I go to work, cause I don't want to be bloated and bogged down. Eggs fill me up without making me feel like crap, and I can work all night without having to eat until I get home. Not to mention if I do get tempted when offered food in the DR, I won't have an appetitie to eat that much. Girls at my club are such foodies too, every night someone orders pizza, gets KFC or Jack in the Box from across the street....a girl even brought in chinese food one night. I dunno, I just can't work if I eat like that in the middle of a shift. I'll get tired.
    Another thing that's good is a boneless, skinless chicken breast with a little brown rice. I just put a little seasoning on it, fry it in the pan, make a bag of the "boil-in-bag" brown rice....all ready in a matter of 20 minutes. Keeps me full for hours and hours.

    Yay! I'm going to try this trick to stop binge holiday eating. Have you tried farm fresh eggs? They are a bit hard to find, but the fresh totally organic eggs are so delicious. There is a small market near me that sells those super fresh eggs (they are funny colored and shaped, totally natural) but they are like $5 a dozen. They are so rich and yummy, though. After eating those eggs, grocery store eggs taste very bland.


    Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

    quick note from the vegan: eggs have a lot of cholesterol, so if any of you all have high cholesterol or blood pressure issues (or heart health, etc etc) i wouldn't do this more than once a day, a few times a week.

    that being said, i'm sure it works just as well with nuts, or cheese, or lean meat for that matter.

    eggs have mostly good cholesterol, and concerns about that are wildly overrated. getting enough exercise is more important.

    as for the rest, it depends on individual body chemistry-- some stuff works better than other stuff on assorted individuals.

    my good cholesterol is at perfectly healthful levels (and my bad cholesterol quite low), and i eat eggs all the time (10-12x per week), when i am not eating red meat. but that doesn't mean my diet is optimal for everyone.

    if a small amount of a food (such as an egg in the OP's case) makes you feel satiated enough to restrain consumption of heavier foods, that's cool. but if it does not, that other person is not doing it wrong-- they just have different measures of satiety, and should try different foods.
