    Mind Blowing Course Hair Question

Okay so I have course hair and need to know...Ladies how do you sweat (dancing, working out, sex or whatever) without sweating out your relaxer? My hair looks and feels so nice right now I'm afraid to workout! I usually keep a saw in in because I've been working out hard lately but I made the mistake of taking it out for a while and now realize how much I miss my real hair!

The main way I sweat out my hair is in the shower and I just wear a shower cap.

    A saw? What's that?

I don't have much of a solution to not sweating out your hair. I just wear mine in a pony tail and then take it down/shake it out/brush a little to let it air out between whatever workout I'm doing. In the course of one gym session, my hair goes up and down at least 7 times. I wear a 1/2 wig at work so my hair's loosely clipped underneath. If it gets too hot, I take off the wig in the dressing room for a little while.

The only thing I make sure to do is get a professional wash and set w/ deep conditioning once every week to week and a half. This way, if it gets totally sweated out, it'll be fixed up/blown out soon.

When I go to the gym, I usually wear a cotton headband around my edges and covering my forehead (think '80s style). The rest of my hair is loosely clipped up to let my hair breath while I exercise.

When I'm showering, I usually have in rollers (or my hair is wrapped) with a satin scarf over it and then I use a turbie twist (or towel). I never use a shower cap because it makes me sweat more (tip from my hairstylist). My showers are luke warm to prevent me from getting too hot and breaking out in a sweat.

A relaxer is a chemical process. Sweat does not make a relaxer go out. I have never understood that term "sweating your perm out". You can sweat a style out...sweat a blow dry/flat iron out... but once your hair is chemically treated, you can't sweat that out.

It sounds like your hair is just not processed bone straight. Any moisture is going to cause your hair to revert. The heat is making it open up and swell and the moisture is making it get even bigger. The only way your hair won't revert is if it's processed to bone straight texture.

You just gotta wrap it really flat, tie it down really good, and be sure to hit it with the cold air as soon as you finish sweating and get it to cool down and dry out... or blow it out/flat iron it again.

I think the term just refers to the hair getting frizzy and dried out from the sweat rather than it actually getting nappy again. The hair is still straight, it just doesn't have that same soft, shiny, silky feeling as when you first get it relaxed.

You're right, it is technically incorrect, but it's probably the easiest and most universal way to describe "I got a relaxer, it looked nice, I broke a sweat and now it's all frizzy and sh*t."

If you're sweating your perm out then maybe you should try a different brand! You shouldn't be sweating your perm out. Just try wrapping your hair at night and use a silk wrap to tie it down. This will help maintain frizziness and keep the hair nice and slick.

I had my hair relaxed before by my grandmother. My grandmother thought that if water and a hijab didn't make your hair straight, then something was wrong with you. I was like, 12. The jar was written in Farsi on one side, Turkish on the other. No Arabic, no French, no English. That shoulda been a red flag.

That shit probably had lead and mercury in it.

That shit is creamy crack for real. My hair grew back weird as hell for like, 6 months afterwards...almost like the perm got in under my scalp skin and my new hair was still growing through it for a while before my real hair texture came back

Definately a red flag lol..I'm so sorry but I can't help but keep laughing. I can only imagine how traumatic that was for you.
