    Search pinch braid extensions

recently got my hair done in FL .. I got extensions using pinch braid method. Can't find anyone in Houston that does them. Is this method more popular amongst black women? Should I try finding a salon that specializes in braids weaves or dreds

    Thanks

I have never heard of pinch braids before. Do you have a pic? Or could you at least describe the technique. It maybe called something else...

is it where the extensions are done like a tree braid (close to the scalp) except not at the hairline only underneath the hair so its not visible?? im not sure if pinch braid is the right term either but a braiding salpn should be able to do it

^^ Yes. The chick who did them said that they can be tightened every couple of months.

It was a long procedure, like 8 hours.

They are called "pinch plaits" and ive been getting done since i was 15 years old (24 now). If you want them done correctly I suggest you go to a salon specific for braids, weaves and dreads. Pinch plaits is definitely something more common amongst black women. Try finding a black hair care salon as well.

Hmmmm...i'm not sure which method I have....I have been getting them done since I was like 20 and I'm 25 now....i have like two tiny braid things going accross on my real hair then I have the wefts sewn in on top of that.....it's really safe because there is no glue involved and it is always sewen in on your new hair (the strongest hair)....I get my done every 2 months or so...

it sounds like you just have the sew-in wefts. haha, no fancy words!

i've been getting pinch braids done for the past couple years, and i love them! i'm white if that matters. the braids never slip out, and i can wash and style my hair like normal. they are kind of expensive, but i think of it as an investment! i definitely wouldn't be making the kind of money i do now without my long ass hair!

I have pinch braids too, they are also known as 4 strand braids. I believe they were invented at a place called The Purple Circle here in LA, but I have a great salon (Sirens) that does them at a much better price. I dont know a place where you are, but your best bet would be to find a store that sells the hair/wefts and ask for a referral to a salon that does them. Ive done that before when traveling. And I have seen tons of people advertising extensions on craigslist but I have never tried that route before. Also, there are directories online where you can find extension stylists like at hisandher.com

Edited to add, I am also white and know a lot of other white girls who have them. I think the sew-in wefts are more popular with black girls than pinch braids but I could be wrong. I know the braided method is very popular in Japan as well. And I am able to style my hair the same as before I had extensions like Scurvette said. The only thing is when you wear your hair in a ponytail you can see the tiny braids at the root but I think it looks cute. I do have a few bonded extensions closer to my part so that the braids arent visible from the front/top.
