THE moment the art market plummets is almost always signalled by a sudden catastrophic sale. This time was quite different. The top of the market can be narrowed down to the two-hour cocktail slot on Monday, September 15th 2008, when Oliver Barker raised more than £70m ($107.8m) in the first session of "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever", the epic sale of Damien Hirst by Damien Hirst.

    and on the 'home front'

Toyota halts building of Prius plant in Mississippi

Bloomberg news also just reported that the car which had the highest percentage of sales slump to date is indeed the Prius. followed closely by the Ford Fusion, Honda Fit and an array of small cars which get excellent gas mileage. Surprisingly or not, Bloomberg news also reported that the vehicles which have seen the smallest slump are GM / Ford / Chrysler / Toyota full sized pickup trucks !

    (Shakes head woefully)

I wish they would work as hard on making "green" cars price competitive as they do getting their bonuses and begging money out of the national treasury (which is empty by the way.)

Perhaps Tesla will make a grocery getter.

The thing that is most irritating is that there was the EV1 which was enthusiastically enjoyed by those people who picked one up.

We were, once again, in the lead, and once again, we will give it to some other country's manufacturer I am sure.

The decline and fall is always from the inside.

In my pre-dancing days when I had a young family and one on the way, basically living in poverty and found that being poor is an expensive way to live. The car situation is a perfect example, we had a big thunking heap of crap that guzzled fuel and broke down every 5-6 weeks costing well over a weeks wage to get back on the road- of course being poor we lived in a remote area miles from the workplace with crappy public transport and had to get the car on the road to work to pay the car repair bills (catch 22)
We worked out that it was costing us $220 a week to keep the car, and realised a newer model car would be cheaper to run even with repayments. We went to some money lenders to get a car loan and of course they determined that we couldn't afford the repayments of $90 a week for a new car even though we were currently spending $220 a week to run the heap of crap we already owned.
I have several examples similar to this where you need money to save money. Very frustrating.
