Default Thick thighs and pole dancing

This is a question for experienced pole-climbers....

I just started learning actual pole moves, including climbing and sitting at the top. However, it seems like it's hurting the insides of my thighs at an unusual amount. I have very muscular thighs, but have a lot of fat on them, too. I'm starting to wonder if it hurts less for girls who are more toned, since there is less flesh to pull on? Or is it my skin that needs to toughen up to hold the pole comfortably?

You are using muscles you haven't used before in ways you haven't. I am experiencing the same thing. The only thing I can do with my thighs is climb up and sit in a chair position for a little bit then I have to slide down. Each day I do this as long as possible. It hurts less than it used to. I hope this helps.

Nope. It hurts everyone. Like hell. It still hurts me if I do it a lot. I've been dancing a bit over a year now. Each new move comes with pain in new places. Good luck.

Pain in new places and bruises all over the place. Keep ice-packs handy!

I've been dancing for years and I still get bruises everywhere. My man always tells me that I have the worst stripper bruises ever!

Thanks for all the replies! I guess I'm just going to have to toughen up then..... my pain tolerance, that is! Makes me appreciate the girls who can stay up there that much more.

I find its my students with less fat on very tone thighs that have the lowest pain threshold there.

If you are prone to a lot of bruising/muscle pain, the oldest and most used remedy that I've know strippers to recommend is arnica. You can get it at any homeopathic store, or even most pharmacies. Apply to site of pain and it should ease it up.

Pole pain affects everyone, so don't worry. After a while you will develop, a my girls say, "skin as tough as leather". No matter how expert you get, if you do take a break from dancing for several weeks though, do expect to feel some discomfort again as your body is easing into the dancing again.

It depends on your tolerance of pain and in what area of the body. Pole sits never bothered me a great deal, sure they were painful at times but not enough to bother me. I have a student now just struggling with pole sits - she can do them and is very strong but the pain in her thighs is too much - thighs are a place on her body she cannot handle pain.

Just try a little each day, don't over do it and keep at it. It will get better. If it's really difficult or you are slipping and that is causing the pain you can try some grip aid - some say it helps and others say it makes it more painful.

pole moves hurt! Also that move where you lean your back directly against the pole than slide all the way down while kicking one leg up, really hurts your back! i tried doing this nightly for a while in an attempt to build up resistance, but it never stopped hurting, it stung every time!

arnica is good, but what works even better for me for bruising is Vitamin K. You can get in a topical gel or cream, or as an oral supplement. I take a 100mg pill every morning and apply the topical stuff to any bruises I have in the morning and before bed. This routine also gets rid of spider veigns I've heard.

    .
    Try this:

Instead of keeping your back to the pole - lean back into the pole with only the fleshy part of your shoulder on the pole, hands over your head and slide down.

That should eliminate pole burn on your back and it has the same look/effect.
