    Sad WHERE is my period?!!

So i'm on BC and last month I just never got a period. I took 3 home pregnancy tests (one a week for three weeks) and all were negative. My gyno said not to worry about it, but i found it odd. The only change in my habits is that i've been smoking more weed than usual lately.

Now its three weeks later and my period is due tomorrow. I'm dying for it to come. I feel kind of.. unfeminine? iono. never thought i'd miss it, but I don't know what to do if it doesn't come again.

    Anyone had a similar experience?

amenorrhia (no period) is usually normal and it can be related to low body weight, stress, medication and many other things. I have experienced this many many times and in fact I take BC continuously. I haven't had a period in 4 years. According to my research, the body does not *have* to menstruate to stay healthy. I feel great without the disabling pain that comes from having cramps. I also know another girl that hasn't had hers in 3 years but I think it's because she's a long distance runner. It's good that you asked your dr. though, I hope it's nothing bad, and it shouldn't be.

the period you have from birth control is not a normal period anyway. your normal period is when your uterine lining builds up to create cushioning for an egg cell in case it gets fertilized. the hormones in bc prevent the uterine lining from ever building, so the period you have is actually a faux period where your body is reacting to hormone withdrawal and bleeding. the only reason you have a period week in your birth control is because the guy that invented it was catholic, and wanted it to be accepted by the catholic church. building in a period makes it seem more natural, and thus more acceptable.

they didn't accept it anyway, and now millions of women have useless, pointless periods we don't need and that many of us don't want, but can't avoid due to when our health insurance lets us refill our birth control.

    ------------ end rant.

this applies to the OP in that perhaps your body was a little overloaded with hormones and thus didn't feel the withdrawal symptoms yet. it'll come eventually. worry not.

This night is gonna end when we're damn well ready for it to be over, worked all week long, and now the music is playing on our time. Yeah we do what we do to get by, and then we need a release!" - Against Me!, "Thrash Unreal"

I didn't get a period for 2 years after stopping my BC pills. I actually really enjoyed it.

ruby is right too, your BC "period" is not a real period because no egg is released.....I remember asking my doctor about the effects this would have on menopause - menopause occurs when there are no more eggs left....so what if you take BC for 10 years...does that mean menopause is delayed 10 years as well because you now have 10 years worth of extra eggs?!?!

SHE DIDNT KNOW the answer. *Snap* stopped taking the damn things.

I asked my doctor about this, it is a real period, it just tends to be lighter when you are on birth control.
No you don't need to have a period, the section of dummy pills is there because it seems more "natural" as a human being to have a period. Nothing to do with religion
Personally I skip the dummy pills because my periods are a nightmare and I always catch germs during it. I do notice my body does insist on having one after about 4 months. I'd be happy if I never had a period ever again, though not having a regular confirmation of not being pregnant would be a bit of a drawback.
Basically keep your doctor informed, so anything nasty can be ruled out. if you don't like the advise you get, see another for a second opinion.

Oh about the menopause, I don't think the running out of eggs thing is correct. If it was I'd be looking at menapuase at 80 and my mother who took the pill for 20 years wouldn't have gone through it a year after stopping on doctor advise because she was past the age of menopause and he wanted her body to do it naturally.
I believe women are born with thousands of eggs, menopause is hormonal, not due to the ovaries running dry. However- the quality drops as we get older and at some point they do become unviable and useless - hence the increase of birth defects in older mothers babies.
