Default Its not a UTI..so what is it??

I thought I had an UTI. Went to the doc. She tested urine for it. At the time she said "yes it looks like a little bit of an infection there" she prescribed antibiotics.I then asked her to test for stds and pregos. She said she will do so and will call me with results. When I finally got a chance to go to pick up my antibiotics, the doctor hadnt called them in. I called HER to get my results and to see why she hadnt called in my antibiotics. She said " well theres no bacteria present in ur urine and all other tests came back negative.
So WTF. What else could it be?? It kinda hurts when I pee sometimes, and I get that pressure icky feeling down there..which is what I believe feels like UTI. If i dont have stds...what could it be??
Im making another appt. just wanna have a heads up on what could come up.

Go to another doctor. Get a second opinion.

Until your next doctor visit, get over-the-counter pills for UTI's(can't think of the name of it). Also, sip on cranberry juice if can handle the taste.

Get a second opionion. It definitely sounds like a UTI or bacterial infection.

This is extreme, but I had a mild UTI that basically didn't get treated as any antibiotic I'm not actually allergic to, I get the most adverse reactions, so thinking it would be mild and I could get through it with some urinary alkalisers and what not, we left it.

But it continued to hurt to pee, and it always felt like I needed to go to the bathroom. Then one night it became seriously bad and so incredibly painful to go to the bathroom, and then I noticed the blood. By the morning my pee was beetroot red.

But no bacteria. Nothing. It continued on and off for about 8 months, with nothing coming up in the test results.

Eventually it was decided the UTI had spread up into my kidneys and done some damage, but the infection was gone.

I had to go on a super strict diet of really bland foods and certain foods were absolute no-no's, and I had to stop drinking alcohol altogether for pretty much a year and keep my fluids up constantly.

Even after most symptoms went it still hurt to pee altogether for about a year and a half.

So I'd say get her to do more investigating, get ultrasounds, try alternative therapies to try to diagnose it. I went to a bunch of different alternative therapists who all came to the same conclusion - even my yoga teacher could tell what area of my body wasn't right!

But if your doctor doesn't want to look further into it I'd say get a 2nd opinion, you don't want to end up with what I had - and it could've been a lot easier if it'd been picked up sooner.

Glad I stumbled on this thread actually... Ive got this serious pain thing going on. I just have this stingy, busting to pee feeling, then I go to pee, and I manage a teeny dribble (sorry, kinda gross) then it just stops and hurts. Then I go, sit on the sofa, and need to pee again. Its been really bad over this week, maybe cos Im dehydrated, but there was a bit of blood on the tissue after I wiped the other day... Is this a UTI?

Well, me and the boyf were both virgins when we got together, and (hopefully!) neither of us have been with anyone since, so that should totally eliminate any chance that its an STI shouldnt it?

I hope you got everything sorted out Xiomara.

AnnKatherine mentioned the over-the-counter pills earlier. Maybe you're thinking of Azo? It's great for UTI pain and burning (although it won't actually treat and get rid of an infection by itself).

Always, always, ALWAYS (I cannot stress this enough) get a CULTURE done of your pee samples. I have these exact same symptoms off and on, since I was 18, and after many pseudo infections, I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis when I was 19. Many Dr's did NOT culture, went off my symptoms, and put me on antibiotics, which would help for awhile (reducing the inflammation) but not ultimately fix the problem. I am now resistant to all but four antibiotics due to them not culturing me. I ended up getting bladder surgery.

If there is BLOOD, this is a VERY bad sign. If there is tissue bits, that is WORSE. Why have you let this go on for more than a week?!

GET THEE TO THE DR ASAP. And even though it sucks, DO NOT take pyridium ( aka Uristat, AZO Plus etc) before you go get a culture, because it can sway the culture results.

Like everyone else said, go to the doctor, another doctor.

I've struggled with UTI's since I was 15 or 16 (bad to the point of the tissue bits mentioned above) and this past october, at 22, I got a really bad kidney infection from a UTI that I didn't even know was there. Battling that damned kidney infection took a whole month out of my life thanks to inadequate ER physicians. Get it fixed, even if it feels like it's going away.

I have interstitial cystitis too. It's basically the lining of your urethra is damaged, possibly from previous bouts with UTIs. Drinking cranberry, or acidic juices, or spicy foods or taking Vitamin C supplements will make it worse. Start keeping a food diary and go see a urologist. Check out the interstitial cystitis message board (just Google it). Taking a glucosamine/MSM supplement can help relieve your symptoms; the doctor can also prescribe something stronger.

My pain started when I was in my mid-20s. It felt like a UTI but there was never any bacteria in my urine. I went to a doctor and they stuck a catheter and a scope up my urethra and said "you don't have cancer" and sent me home. I just drank tons of water every day and lived with the pain for years. That was 20 years ago and medical understanding of this syndrome has advanced significantly since then. But you need to see a specialist in urology because most doctors will assume it's a UTI and just shrug their shoulders when the tests come up negative.
