a friend sent this to me today--yeah, i'm kinda familiar.

locals aren't going to help us either--unemployment highest in 20 years. as chris rock would say, "Ain't no happiness nowhere."

i hate to admit but when i moved here, i thought vegas would be recession-proof.

this is some real shit .

That sucks. That is what can happen unfortunately when your city gets it's money from one type of business. People will always travel, but it's not like healthcare- people do not need to travel.

I don't know why it's such a shock to people. When the economy is in a recession, the first thing people cut out of their budgets is entertainment and travel. No suprise to me.

I knew it. And I knew for a long time too. After 9-11, Things haven't really been the same here. I actually left Vegas a couple months after the 9-11 incident because it was sooo bad. I went from $500 easy in a couple hours to $50/day. And back then, it wasn't as dirty as things are now, there weren't as many girls, not as many clubs and the prices weren't as high.

It was a real eye opening experiene, that's for sure. Nobody was coming to Vegas. People were scared to fly, so the only people we were getting here, were from mostly bordering states. That makes you see real quick how much Vegas depends on tourism... Yeah they say, Vegas creates its own economy, but how can they make that claim, when its mostly service industry jobs that are available.

There are not a lot of professional jobs here, outside of the casinos. Also, lots of people own their own businesses, which in turn are profiting from these 'service industry' employees. The service industry in Vegas are the jobs where everyone was making big money. Servers, bartenders, cocktail waitresses, dancers, go-go dancers, escorts, cabbies, limo drivers, dealers, valet. All these people depend on tourism.

The first places that are going to suffer from the crisis in our country right now are tourism states, cities. Plus it doesn't really help that we are still in the top cities for home foreclosures.

I see businesses shutting their doors all over the place. It is getting scary. Seriously, I am starting to hunt for a different place to live.

...seems like the city or casinos would subsidize vacation packages (or charge less for rooms) thus lowering the overall trip cost, just to help keep the biz going.

it's a shock to people because anytime we've had a recession, vegas was still ok. if you read the article, unemployment here is the highest it's been in 20 years--so this is beyond tourism. this means our locals are in a slump as well.

green eye--i've already been researching too. i'm outta here this year.

no offense but where do you plan on going??? i just moved here from palm beach which is a wealthy city in this county that still doesnt make as much as vegas on this type of business.

the girls i know out here are still bringing in thousands a night and are not complaining about it. the cost of living in vegas is still much lower than other places with the opportunity to pick up as many days to work as you want. i just came from chicago where the strip clubs were closed for new years eve!!!! this is one of the best nights for us to make money if we want to work. a lot of other places only have weekends that are good and all the girls end up there at once which means it may totally suck.

i feel what you are saying but i would really look at what your other options are before you assume vegas is so bad. i been here a week and feel like i just got rescued from hell by being here. the clubs are much cleaner than other places (miami girls are known to give head and handjobs right in the lap dance area) and if you are offering "extras" the amounts being charged are high enough that guys are still willing to patronize the stippers who are only dancing.

good luck with whatever you do but i stronly recommend you look before you leap.

thank you...... again no offense to those who think its so "hard" here but seriously its not.
I actually am thankful that i am coming from the truely harder places to work as i am overjoyed by what i am seeing here and will have a great attitude towards the guys because of it. Since being here i have noticed the girls are more friendly and healthy and the customers are much nicer to talk to. Apparently on the weekends you get all the OC cali type guys coming out to gamble and party and look for their next "sugarbaby" as i call it.

One thing i would love to point out that is soooo different here on the west coast is this: New yorker and Palm beach type guys have money no doubt. the difference is their attitude with it. most are very conservative and geared towards family and marriage. which tends to mean you have to "con" them into spending a lot of times. the older ones who are golfing trips and that kind of thing can be very cool because they are there to let loose but at the same time they are sooooo boring to talk to . I have had more customers turned "stalkers" in florida simply because they are calculating their spending towards what they think our relationship is. they are mostly looking for a wife not an entertainer. If they already have a wife they are very cheap with entertainers because you are trash to them. Its hard to explain but out here seems like people are here for fun and relaxation. they blow money and dont care because that is what vegas is about. that is so fucking cool !!!!! lolol

I just got back from Vegas. I believe Mediocrity said the girls there were setting their nightly goals around $500/night. I stopped by Treasures and SR. Treasures was really empty, and the girls said that they had to make all of their money off of 1 or 2 customers but that the money wasn't bad. The girls over at SR were saying that the recession hadn't really hit them and the girls were walking out with between $500 and $1,300. That's certainly not as good as a few years ago, but I think many of the girls working are new and young enough that they don't know the difference between earnings from the economy being in a good state versus a recession. Still though, Vegas is looking better than a lot of other places right now!
