Default what do you do to your cuticles

I do my own nails to save money, but I've never really been sure what to do with my cuticles. Sometimes I poke at them with a stick in an attempt to push them back, but I'd really like to know what the rest of y'all do to keep them from looking gross.

If I do a home manicure, I soak my fingers for about 10 minutes. I apply Sally Hansens cuticle remover (blue, small bottle) to each cuticle, then push them down with a cuticle pusher. I like that stuff b/c it doesn't actually remove the cuticle, just makes it more supple. Technically you shouldnt remove (slip, cut, pick at) cuticles because they protect your nail bed.

If you're just polishing your nails and doing an at home manicure the tips that the ladies above have given you are gold. But to have nice cuticles I suggest that you invest in SolarOil from Creative Nail Design and you apply every night before bed and your cuticules will be soft and smooth and it will even help your polish from chipping.

Whatever you do, don't cut them.

I don't do anything to mine when I do my nails at home. When I get them done (basic manicure every 3-4 weeks), I just get them pushed back. Other than that, I don't pay much attention to them.

You are supposed to remove them. Use cuticle oil or remover after soaking your fingers in warm soapy water for a few minutes. Use a cuticle cutter/remover and just go slowly. Leaving cuticles there on your fingers tends to cause hangnails. That's where they come from. Because if cuticles grow too far out they will inevitably start splitting down to the skin and it will be painful.

My Grandmother is a manicurist and I went to cosmetology school and thanks to that I paid super close attention and I haven't had any problems since. ^_^ Clean and neat nails and fingers.

Major 2nd on the Sally Hansen stuff in the blue bottle. Also, there is a product called Cuticle Eraser from Creative Nail Design that contains AHA's. It's a cream, and with use over time it prevents cuticles from getting out of hand.

Also, there is a Lush product called Lemony Flutter that a lot of people seem to prefer to Solar Oil (although Solar Oil is good too).

I have cuticle trimmers but usually I just use almond oil and smushum back with a cuticle stick. I use metal cuz you can disinfect it with rubbing alcohol. I disinfect everything with alcohol all the time. I'm a clean freak.

I let my hands soak in warm water, use cuticle cream, and then gently push them back. If they are really hanging or shredded (i bite mine) I'll cut them, but rarely.

I have a tool from Tweezerman that I swear by, V-cuticle nipper. It's like $15.00, but well worth it. I don't do anything to the cuticles at the base of nail, but I always get hard skin around sides of nail, use it on them, also great for hangnails, but not going crazy, lol.
I also used it to pull out a sliver that got deep under my nail, yow!
