    Default bv or yeast infection?

Well first off to tell you I have booked a doctors appointment, but it wont be until next week as there is only one main around here and I guess its very busy..

But my symptoms are slight itching (nothing really bad) and a fishy smell (ergh!)

I have had a yeast infection before hmmm I remember the itching but I am sure it didnt smell like fish which makes me think its bv but when I googled that it says itching isnt a symptom of that

Im getting really worried what if its something else

Is there anything I could buy over the counter to perhaps help in the meantime.. I know you can buy pills for thrush but I wouldnt want to just asusme I have that or wil that not do any harm?

yeast infections tend to smell like bread, or beer. the yeast smell is strong. bv does tend to smell pretty fishy, at least the one time i had it. also, itching is pretty normal with bv! so don't fret yet.

if it's a yeast infection, eating yogurt helps. or taking acidophilus/lactobacillus tablets. also, try to cut back on your sugar for a little while. remember- yeast eats sugar, and the more of it there is in your blood stream, the more of it will get to your vag, and the more food the yeast will have to grow and prosper.

http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/bac...vaginosis.html this is a page with home remedies for bv, they also have some home remedies for yeast infections. if you are planning on trying any of the yeast infection ones, go for either the grapefruit seed oil or the garlic.

thank you for the reply..well if bv itches too then I would guess it is that and that relaxes my feelings a bit. But is there a possobility of something else..does anything else have these symptoms too?

I am quite confused by that site.. I read all the comments about how the hydrogen peroxide ( erm little worried about that idea... i thought thats in bleach) and folic acid. But there is no bit where it says what to do?

Ok well I googled it and although i worked out what you have to do and it does look effective, it says not to try it at home unless you have been diagnosed with bv by a doctor. The thing is Im seeing my bf before I see the doctor and what if we have sex as it doesnt hurt(obviously with protection although I read men cannot get bv but if it was a yeast infection or w.e he might so deffintly use protection I know) but I am self concious of the smell?

I wouldn't exacerbate the problem by having sex with an already irritated vagina.

Im not sure if this will reach you in time, BUT you do have BV and not a yeast infection. (BV's primary symptom is a mild fishy odor). Nothing over the counter will help, and believe me I have tried it all before finally going to the GYN. The best thing that worked for me however was FLAGYL which is an antiobiotic pill that is prescribed by your gyn and I also got precribed a vaginal cream which is called Zazole. Both prescriptions combined knocked out the odor within 2 days, as well as all of the other symptoms that comes along with BV. Hope this helped a bit, Take Care =)

Planned Parenthood describes a boric acid cure, which does work, but takes time. If your va-jay-jay is stinky, chances are it is BV, which is quite common, and easy to eliminate with Metro-gel or Flagyl. The prescriptions will probably make you feel a little crappy while you are on them, but you will feel so much better when they are done. The tricky thing is they may actually cause a yeast infection since they will kill ALL bacteria, not just the bad stuff. Best bet is to have the doc prescribe a pill for yeast and you take it towards the end of your treatment. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL while you are being treated for BV, it will make you very sick!!
