    Crossfingers Paying taxes discreetly

I have a quick question about reporting on my taxes that maybe ya'll can help me with. I want to be above board and legit etc and report everything I have made from dancing (which isn't all that much, I only dance once or twice a week). But, after I graduate some of the jobs I'm going to apply for require background checks and so I don't want them to look at my tax records and see that I worked in a strip club. Is there some other way I can report it, maybe as miscellaneous income or something? Alternatively I considered putting it down as a gift from my parents or sugardaddy, but I feel bad. I want to be fair and pay my taxes like everyone else, but I can't have any record of working at the club!

Just call yourself a consultant. That could mean anything. The tax forms don't ask too much as far as specifics go, anyway. On the "employer" line just write "self". So you are a self employed consultant.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

You are really asking two questions, first can a prospective employer see your income tax filings, and second how do you report income.

First, unless you execute a form authorizing the Internal Revenue to release your taxpayer information, they will not. Employers generally do not have a reason to ask. (Banks granting loans have a reason to ask, even landlords have a reason to ask, some employers involved in administering tax related programs have a reason to ask, and certainly child support enforcement has a reason to ask.) Thus, the general rule is no one but the IRS and your state department of revenue have access to your tax records. (Even law enforcement has to obtain a subpoena to get that information from the IRS.)

Second, you are asking how do you report income from dancing where it is a second or casual job. The place is on schedule C. If you receive a form 1099 from the club[s] that is shared with the IRS and state department of revenue. No 1099 and you will have to report honestly to the best of your ability your income. Still, it goes on schedule C. The occupation you list on the bottom of your tax return is the one where you gain the majority of your income. The service does not really have a SIC for exotic/erotic dancer. I always used the rather bland "entertainer" for mine. But, dancing was my sole source of income when I was in college and dancing.

yeah, i always said "entertainer". hey, i could be doing baloon animals at childrens parties for all they know
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?
