Default I need a WHOLE new skin care routine - HELP

I am acne prone and sun damaged. I would like to switch to all natural organic products, but it's not mandatory.

    I currently use...

A gel face wash with triclosan (an antiseptic) for acne prone skin.
A moisturizer with 2% salicylic acid for acne prone skin.
2.5% benzoyl peroxide cream (a gentler version of clearisil) at night,
A moisturizer with salicylic acid and no sunscreen. All sunscreens break me out horribly. I would really like to find one that doesn't.
And, I take 100mg minocycline a day for my acne.

90% of my acne is around my mouth, from as small as whiteheads to the occasional cyst.

My skin is really bad right now because I just went on vacation and I was wearing sunscreen the whole trip and forgot my benzoyl peroxide.

    Suggestions?

Can't say enough good things about the "Dermalogica" line of products! Have been plauges with skin issues much of my life but these are amazing.
"Ulta" carries the entire line and you can buy small sizes and also kits for specific problems.
The "Daily Microexfoliant" is like nothing I've ever tried and fixes everything ugly fast!
The cater to acne,sensitive,mature...something for all skin types!

Hands down they work better than anything I have ever tried includign pricey visits to a Dr!

tea tree oil? the body shop makes (or used to make) little cleansing pads with it on there. that stuff is pretty awesome. there's also witch hazel, which you can get at the drug store in a bottle like rubbing alcohol comes in. both of those basically act like astringents/toners/etc.

as far as moisturizers go, i would check out your local health food/natural store (if you have one). the one in my town has a whole little isle section devoted to beauty products. i haven't used any of the all natural moisturizers, but there might be a specialist in that section who can recommend something to you. or you could see what's there, and then read up on it online.

Is it acne or white heads. I used to brake out a lot. I got mainly white heads. What I've learned was that milk was causing me to brake out.

Have you tried proactive? I've heard lots of good things about it and seen blemishes vanish from my friends faces while they were on it.

You might be drying your skin out by using so many medicated products. Maybe try spot treating your acne and using a medicated cleanser, then buy a good facial moisturizer that has no medicine in it. I agree with retiredangel, Dermologica is amazing!

I used to have this stuff by Dr. Hauschka called "Skin Normalizing Oil" or something along the lines of that.. and it really helped clear my skin up. I know it sounds crazy to put oil on your face when you have acne, but the plant oils really hydrate the skin and soothe irritation without clogging the pores.

Get thee to thy Dermatologist aka Skin Care Specialist & Aethestician!

Money is tight for me right now and I am the spot treatment queen. I've used just about everything for my skin drama and it's still a work in progress. When work was good, I went to a doctor approved aethestician every 3 weeks. Now that I haven't been, boy do I see a difference.

She taught me alot about my skin, gave me great advice, and top of the line products to use at home. I'm not doing so great on my own, I wish she were free or cheapity cheap. My skin is seriously suffering right now.

I know it's not cheap and probably not the suggestion you want to hear, but I've done years of damage to my skin because I was uneducated on how to treat my skincare problems. It's like trying to lose weight, there are several ways to go about it. If you're consistently hitting a brick wall, like I was, then it's time to go ask a professional.

When my money situation is better, I'm definitely going back and, hopefully, on a regular basis. Good luck, acne sucks monkey balls. I wish I didn't have this problem either.

It's been scientifically proven that no specific food affects your skin. It all depends on your hormonoes, DNA, and stress. Here's the link:

For your acne, try using Mario Badescu (mariobadescu.com). To receive 15% off use coupond code: 15OFF

I've been using at least 20 of their products for the past 2 years and see a significant improvement. Let me know if you actually ordered anything and how it worked out.. all my friends are hooked now =]

Proactive is just expensive benzyl peroxide... they have to pay for all those jessica simpson and michelle williams ads somehow!

I am not saying that,it is certainly, milk, but it might be. I am not sure, if it is lactose or the hormones, that the milk contains (milk is for cows, not human). Milk was making me brake out a lot. My skin woud occasionally feell very oily and puffy and the witeheads and sometimes zits would form. Normally, around my mouth, up beside my nose and forehead, mostly. I am talking from my own experience, not scientific.
The way this reserches are interpreted is, that food alone doesn't cause breakouts, which is true. Acne is a bacteria, that feeds of the oily skin.
So, it is pretty posible that , the food or alcohol or any other substance that you consume, causes you to brake out.

IMO, drinking LOTS of coffee can fuck up your skin. This one girl I know was drinking about 2-3 cups a day and she had a lot of red pimples. I told her to cut it off & start drinking green tea, she does not have one pimple on her face.

I have one cup in the morning(then I drink a glass full of water after), but i'm gonna try to quit it again & switch to green tea. When I did, my skin was flawless.

VS, try not to over dry it with all of those products bc more will come out. I too have oily skin(that feels gross with most lotions), & when it's over dried it's bad too. You need to find a balance.

If you need to moisturize it, at night use a bit of jojoba or (preferably)100% coconut oil. I wouldn't do it every night, 1-3 nights a week should be enough.

Acne sucks ! I used to suffer from it myself for years and years. I was spending so much money on laser treatments / peels / new medication / antibiotics. Acne.org has a lot of information. Everyone's acne is different and I don't know what type I had, but the only thing my skin ever responded to was accutane. I got so fed up with bad skin that I just went online one day and ordered it ( without a dr. ) It worked right away. I had to take a second course, but since then my skin is so awesome and finally it's not oily at all. I think it just takes a lot of research, there has to be a cause for it and it could be food , products , liver issues. I hope you take a look around that site, maybe try the hollistic section and read some product reviews. If nothing else, you might want to try accutane. It saved my life.

I think if you can give the Dermalogica line a try you'll be amazed...I hardly ever break out anymore and have hadproblems my entire life.
They have a "Clarifying Mattifier" that you use under makup that so fabulous too...
I tried Pro Active but it's very harsh.

You can try the kit that has small sizes of some of their best products...they last forever because you only need small amounts for them to be effective.

Also, what are you using for makeup foundation? I have tried everything and then some and have found Mac Studiofix (liquid) to be okay and Dior Capture Totale to be amazing...stay away from mineral makeups,I know, most people love them but they can totally aggrevate acne and/or cause skin sensitivities.

I absolutely disagree with this as a general statement. While mineral make up might not be good for your skin, that doesn't mean it is bad for everyone.

I've always had problem skin from small white and blackheads to the occasional cystic pimple. I began using a new esthetician who told me to stop using comedogenic products on my face if I ever wanted it to clear up. When I told her that I use all MAC makeup, I got a looonng lecture. If you are using makeup that is comedogenic (pore clogging) on acne prone skin it will never be clear no matter what other products you use. For me, mineral makeup was my saving grace. I would never go back- and I was addicted to MAC.

I also swear by DDFs (Doctors Dermatologic Formula) Brightening Cleanser. It cleared up my skin in a matter of three days from when I started it- I will never use anything else. It has glycolic and salicylic acids in it, so it evens discoloration, clears up what acne you have and prevents it from coming back. From Sephora- so if you don't like it you can always return. Good luck!!

I used to use proactiv when I was younger, and it really worked, but I just kind of stopped when I finished going through puberty. I use the Vitamin E line from the Body Shop, and my skin hasn't been so clear in...well, ever, I guess. I always use toner after I take off my makeup and wash my face, and you should, too, because water doesn't always take all the cleanser off and it will dry out and irritate your skin. And then one of the moisturizers, and you're done. You probably already know this, but washing your face twice a day is critical--when you wake up, and right before you go to bed. My skin is very acne prone, and it's been clear since I started the Vitamin E stuff.

This may be totally off base, but do you pick at your acne? I recently realized that I have OCD (--> picking at my acne) and made an enormous effort to stop bothering my zits. My face has cleared up 90%. I used to get random whiteheads everywhere (I later realized that I was causing new acne and making my current acne worse by picking). I had tried every medication and OTC face care product ever made...and it turns out I was exacerbating what is actually very mild acne!

Salicylic acid never worked for me. I'd use it, clear up and then break out even worse than before. I quit drinking sodas/caffeine--same bad acne. I used AcneFree (exact same stuff as Proactive but cheaper) and went into the sun. I ended up with sunspots on my face. I noticed if I used a sulfur-based cleaner my acne seemed to lessen. What I've used that seemed to work wonderfully for me was the tea tree oil. It stinks so bad but it did work for me. At first though I thought it wasn't working since I was getting little whiteheads. After a few days my acne got a lot better and I ended up with a clear face.

Now though I use just gentle bar soap or my Johnson's oatmeal baby wash and don't have too many problems. Mine are usually hormonal related now. I break out right before I start.
