Default have you thought about being a life coach

I have been exploring the idea of becoming a life coach I am wondering if anyone else has explored that idea. I find that industry very industry as it to be the new age, couselling service with a more of a get up and go movtivation.

I have done some research there is no regulatory body of being certified, but I am thinking once I learn more of the field I might make my own certification website.

I worked with a woman in San Francisco who did this on the side. I'll have to see if I can find her card. She was a really amazing woman and the men were very attracted to her for her energy.

You can just do, but this is the closest you can get to certification:

I've with you though, I figure why not just do it, do it well, and then train other people and "certify" them yourself.

Life coaches are basically therapists /counselors who cant/ dont have the credentials to do licensed therapy for whatever reasons.

For example dr. phil is not currently licensed but is by all accounts offering his coaching services.

To be a good life coach a background in a related field helps if you expect to build a clientel. Famous people w/ connections do not need a background in a pscych . counseling field for this.

Id at least reccomend having a degree of some sorts to help build credibility. They also teach about life coaching in counseling courses/psych/social work courses.

And there are some out there doing it w/no background just good hustling skills soo be prepared for a lil bit of a stigma assoc. w/ that name. Other licensed prof. dont think to highly of unlic. ones.

I think that life coaches focusing on weight loss, organization, and time mgmt would be good ex. of ones that really just need to exhibit a skill in these areas.

You're not going to like this.

First, Landmark Forums is a very controversial outfit. Do your research, find out about Werner Ehrhard (sp?) and consider the risks of Large Group Awareness Training and other "mind control" techniques, which many mental health experts (with legitimate credentials) warn against.

Some people who have been through the Landmark program had very bad experiences and allege it is a dangerous cult. I was briefly involved in a similar program and I'm lucky to be alive.

Second, as noted, some life coaches have no psychological credentials at all because they don't need them, at least until lawmakers wise up. While life coaches seem to believe they are helping people get motivated and make better choices, and in some cases they are, they're kidding themselves if they think they can help everyone. If a person with a real emotional problem comes in, a problem better suited to the skills of a good psychologist, then that person is throwing money away and probably making the problem worse.

Minnie, I think becoming a personal trainer and focusing on motivating people through diet, exercize and positive thinking is more suited to your skills until you get a real college degree in psychology. Calling yourself a life coach could come back to bite you in the ass. They're the used car salesmen of the mental health field.

There are even "schools" (unaccredited, of course) that train life coaches and give them meaningless certification. The graduates are under the mistaken belief that they are professionally certified, when in fact they've been defrauded.

Please, anyone who may be looking for a new way to hustle people -- don't mess around with the heads of emotionally troubled people. You may have noticed, there are enough crazy folks in the world as it is.

I am still in the building proccess for my life coaching career, I just came from the book store and got books on self help and personal development and also from my favorite life coaches and motivational speakers out there. I am also saving up to go t the training provided from bob proctor he has created his own life success training consultant program. and also looking into courses from other insitutions and colleges. and also saving up for university to go into pshychology.

I think landmark forum has miss information I didnt find them to be a cult like at all, they are just in a different mind set of thinking more into the whole law of attraction and mindfulness area.

    Hi Minnie.
I've been thinking about going down the Life Coaching path too...Figured I would extend an educational resource to you, which I'm finding helpful. Maybe you will find value in it as well.

Thumbs down Re: have you thought about being a life coach

Oh, definitely.....follow the link and sign right up. First, you'll be helping out jigglinbaby or someone she knows, because people get paid to refer other people to "Success University." Secondly, you don't really care about legitimate certification, so this "school" is perfect: it has no accreditation, not a single Ph.D. listed among the folks who run it, and technically, it's not a university. Its own website describes it as a "personal development company" whose real name is Success Learning Systems, Inc.

But, hey, it's all about believing in yourself whether you have anything to offer or not, right? And as a bonus, you get to convince other people to enroll and you get a piece of that action. Who cares if you're offering anything of real value, as long as people THINK you are? That's what multi-level marketing is all about, and the "university" also admits in its FAQ section that it's a kind of MLM.

I know you think I'm being negative, Minnie, but I think I'm being real. There's no such thing as alternate reality; there's only the ugly truth and the happy camper make believe. Good luck with your choice.

I start my landmark forum in april. it's certainly not a cult whoever said that is that is a very ignorant mentality. I am working a life coach to plan my own life coach career. I have done my research on the training and regulations for life coaching.

I am also considering going to university to get some psychology courses. even though it's not required in coaching. There is alot of misconceptions and ignorance about life coaching and landmark forum.
