Default The Golden Age of stripping

I was thinking about so called golden eras. Greece and Rome had one. Hollywood was a force of nature during the so-called Golden age of the 1930's and '40's. I personally think that the golden age for stripping was during the Clinton era before 9-11. Maybe I wasn't old enough to have played the game, but damn I had some good fucking courtside seats. Back then, there was debauchery galore in the White house, the dotcom industry hadn't gone to shit and life was so damn simple.... well simpler than it is now anyways. Any thoughts or memories from our veterans?

Well, I can't speak for today, having been retired as a club dancer for many years but the 90s rocked. For the most part it was fairly easy to make money and most of the clubs (except the lower class dives) kept the uglies out. I did work at one of these clubs which I've mentioned and they paid me to dance. That one was so scuzzy but great conversation now because it was so bad. I would cry if I made $200 at a no touch air dance bikini bar because I usually made more. I once got in trouble for kissing a regular on the cheek. Also, at one club one guy was trying to touch my legs and the bouncer got mad! At one club we had a small pedestal we carried around and danced on it. If the club allowed touching they usually meant on the waist only. Nipple licking, sitting on a customer's lap, letting him touch my ass or boobs? I'd be fired. Guys actually spent money just to see me dance in front of them and yes many paid me to chat with them.

I see what it has become and it saddens me. Most of you would love these days because the money was fairly easy without being sleazy. One club I danced at that used to advertise "centerfold quality" dancers is now full of sleazy dancers I hear turn tricks. That NEVER would have happened years ago.

It has and it's sad. I will often see dancers that years ago would have been turned down. The club I mentioned was pretty strict about the hiring and while they might hire a girl say 10 pounds overweight (by club standards, not regular standards)she would have to be pretty. This same club has some girls who are obese, ugly and gross. This club used to be no touching bikini and topless but now it's full grind nude.

Tempest, I didn't realize that until just now. I was responding to the post above me and didn't realize it was an old thread. However I think it's an interesting topic because things have changed. Melonie, on the mark. I started in 1993 and things were so different. I am glad I quit when I did because right after it started getting sleazy.

IMHO this can actually be attributed to two major factors ...

    - a 2000 US court ruling that male stockbrokers being able to entertain clients at strip clubs constituted sex discrimination against female stockbrokers, the result of which was termination of the business expense tax deduction for business client 'entertainment' spending at strip clubs, as well as directives by major corporations ( from bankers to brokers to businesses of every sort ) that their employees should refrain from using strip clubs to 'entertain' potential clients. This effectively eliminated a whole lot of 'white collar' strip club spending ... which left a larger share of the resulting 'smaller pie' of strip club customer spending dollars in the 'blue collar' and 'sleazeball' segment.

    - the increasing availability of 'medium speed' internet connectivity circa 2000 making web video possible ( i.e. the death of 'dial-up' speed constraints ), in conjunction with wide availability of 'free' adult internet content, began to provide the same 'visual only' experience for lonely guys as was provided by non-contact strip clubs. IMHO this directly increased customer expectations in regard to receiving something at a strip club which they couldn't receive at home ... physical contact.

Both sound right, but I would also think the loosening of morals as well courtesy of things like the internet and reality tv. Many women are far more open to doing more with more guys. Of course with more availability on the internet meant more women had other options and many didn't want to work clubs, which of course meant owners had to be less picky what they hired.
