    Default Dancing through School?

I'm a high school senior and have been accepted to a couple of awesome colleges, either of which I would be super-excited to attend...only problem is, they're both expensive. And although my parents have promised to pay for my entire undergraduate education (somehow), I need to get some sort of job for incidental expenses.

So here's the question: is it possible (in terms of time, discretion) to juggle SC work with a full courseload? and if it is, would it be worthwhile?

It's possible, but VERY hard. Dancing is physically exhausting and you don't want to be falling asleep during classes. You could start by just dancing one or two nights a week and see how it goes.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

dude, its so NOT hard. i did my whole full time degree while dancing. i guess it prolly depends on your major thou. mine was marketing/mgt and it was total cake and i used to dance 4/week. howeer my friends who were engineering and science majors had it way rougher and were always slaving away hitting the books. my 1 gf still danced 2 a week through that, but she was an animal and used to get by on 4 hours of slepp per night
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I'm working 2x a week during my undergrad with minimal problems. If you have problems falling asleep, then stripping can fuck with your sleep schedule (takes time to unwind after work). Otherwise, it should be fairly easy. You can even set up your school schedule so that you don't have to be at class until the afternoon a few times a week...thereby allowing you to sleep in.

    Thanks for the replies

I'm probably doing something science-y, so...a lot of coursework. Probably a day or two a week will be all I can handle...I can pretty much fall asleep any time/place so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Also, something that just popped up in my head - will I need a license? And if so, will something like that negatively affect my chances for future employment in a non-entertainment sector?

Depends on what city you'll be dancing in.

I used dancing to pay for grad school (didn't have the confidence to do it when I was a younger undergrad) I worked 2-4 nights a week. I personally think that having lots of things on your schedule forces you to get your work done during whatever alotted time you allocate to it.

When I was a freshman, I didn't work and had 5 classes....which meant I would go to class a few hours a day and [email protected]#$ around socializing the other 10 hours of my free time. When I was working, I only had 5 hours of free time, so I hit the books and got my work done.

Dude. This is SO true. I've always been more productive when I'm constantly moving.

I think I'm probably coming from a much different perspective. I was at one of the top art schools in the country, and working a regular job plus dancing. Even if I had taken the regular job out of the equation though it would have been rough. Some majors are easier than others, you read/hear something once and you have it. Art is demanding of your time though. I always felt like I was rushing around everywhere I went and I struggled to stay awake to get charcoal drawings and other art work finished. Somethings just take longer than others. I probably would have been a lot better if it was something more textbook based. I was always seeing girls reading their college course books in the dressing room... and I'm sure that helped. I couldn't exactly bring my "assignments" to the club though.

So true! I'm definitely the kind of person that is more efficient under pressure - but if I'm not in a time crunch, I'll procrastinate until I am.

One of the colleges I'm considering is pass/fail first semester, so that might give me some transition time.

if anything dancing has given me more time to concentrate on my schoolwork.
I used to work a part time job while attending school full time... and that didn't leave me nearly as much time as I have now that I only dance and attend school. I <3 the freedom of scheduling stripping gives me.

I know some clubs require a set schedule... but all the clubs I've danced at lets me come and go as I please so if one week I don't have much hw, I'll work more.. but if I have alot of work to get done I don't work that week... and I'm making more money now working 5-10 hrs a week then I ever did working 25 hrs/week at my old job.
