Default New to Dancing.. am i wrong?

Hey ya'll.. I've been lurking on this board for a few months just reading the posts and it has been very informative.

I just started dancing and I have to be honest, I'm pretty disillusioned with the industry so far. I come from a dancing background and although I know I am a "stripper" to most, to myself I am an entertainer. I guess I just thought more dancers at the club I'm at (in Niagara Falls Canada) would be more into the 'craft' of exotic dancing.

I put time into the songs I choose and how I will dance to them for example. I put my songs on a cd in the order I want and give them to the DJ to play (we do 3 song sets up here in a row). Some of the girls just let the dj decide or pick something a couple minutes before going up

    am I alone?

I'm sure you're not alone but I think most people on this board are more into stripping for the money. I don't care to put on a good show unless I'm compensated for it.

    btw, I'm from Ottawa.

well to me the "craft of exotic dancing" has a lot less to do with the actual dancing part than it does with knowing how to hustle money. in most clubs you make the majority of your money not from the stage, but from the customer interaction. there are exeptions to the rules - like feature dancers- that actually get paid to dance, but they're different. i have known some girls that expressed the same sentiment as you and really put all their efforts into putting in an awesome show. and yeah, it looked great and stuff, but unless you're in a club witha really great stage tipping culture you're going to make crappy money compared to girls that hustle dances and make $$$$
These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I am the same way you are. I will not dance to music unless I know it and love it, and the fact that I really love to be up there and that I'm really enjoying myself and having a blast DOES show. Having this "eh" attitude may save you some work, but in my experience, giving a good stage show that you're into will get guys up off their asses from across the room and over to the stage, and it gets them buying dances. Not all of them, certainly not now with this economy. But enough that it does make a difference.
But I'm not as big a hustler as some of the other girls here, and I don't put on a show and drastically change my personality from guy to guy. Some girls can do that easily and comfortably, but I can't. And I make pretty good money without it, so why complain?

i don't care if the dj plays the achey brakey, rock or hip hop...if i'm onstage i will look like i am having a good time. Most money at the clubs i work at is not on stage AT ALL. I think it's personal. If the music is going to affect how your attitude is on stage then i guess it matters. I just want to make money so I attempt to have a good attitude as much as possible. The focus is on customer hustling not really choreography. I say do whatever makes you feel good.

I wouldn't say you are alone, but you are definitely in the minority. I agree that you should do what you want on the stage--do what makes you happy! I love the pole, for example. But I've never gotten tipped for executing a pole trick. If I lie down and spread my legs, though, hello, dollar bills!

Fact is, most guys are more interested in T&A than the craft. And where their interest goes, their money follows. And where their money goes, I follow. which means--see ya later, craft.

I have to dance to music I like too. After I get breast implants I'm switching to a smaller club because they let you pick your own music. I dance so much better to a song I *know* for example. Let's face it, the fun part about stripping is not grinding on guys. Its dancing on stage.

    PS. I've been dancing since I was 18 and now I'm 25.

I think some people just learn to adjust and not ask questions. I get irritated when I start at a new club and I have questions, that management looks at me like I'm crazy for asking. Clubs can be really different from place to place. Some places won't let you pick your music, and some will. I like to know all of these things up front. Some girls I am sure don't think to ask and just sort of "go with the flow". That is fine for them, and I can do that too, but it's not my preference.
