Default Pole dancing classes, in general...

After reading the recent thread about strippers not being allowed in pole dancing classes, I looked up a few in my area. The websites weren't too vauge, but one thing was absent: the instructors never mentioned having stripping experience. Maybe they do and just don't advertise they used to do THAT for a living, but to me that's a warning sign. I'm guessing the intro class with all the [desperate] housewives would be what a stripper learns in the first shift of her career, so where are the lessons for dancers? Have any of you had good experiences with private lessons? Are there such things as "feature" or preformer classes for strippers (by strippers)? Who has taken pole classes and what experiences have you had? Is there a studio that you would or wouldn't recommend?

The studio that I take lessons at advertises that some of the instructors are former dancers. I danced for ten years, and I learn something new in every class.

My classes don't say I'm was an exotic dancer because I never was...though I would like to try it some time before I'm too old to even experience it.

Nikita Cash in Florida offers feature classes. http://polechamp.com/

I believe she's a member on here too.

My website does not advertise that I was an exotic entertainer. Nor does it state that strippers are not permitted in my classes!

I danced for over 10 years....

If I am asked, they yes I tell.

Many instructors that work for studios were not exotic dancers....that does not make them any less of an instructor!

Pole Dance Classes are exactly that...Pole Dance, not Stripper 101!

As most women do not want to learn to be a stripper, I offer a class called "In The Element".

I teach live online classes in single private and package formats! Dancers who take private classes are taught about stage, floor & pole, performance, persona, costuming and the business in general.

The reason I actually stopped taking pole classes was that, in the only one I could find, the instructor was very out-of-touch with what was expected in an exotic stage routine. Her dance style was more geared toward a burlesque style--or, in retrospect, what the housewife majority of her students wanted to learn.

I wouldn't mind taking a class from someone who has never been a stripper if all they were trying to teach me is the pole tricks. Because then I can develop them into my own style. But if they insist I learn what they believe are common floor routines, dance moves, etc., I'm out-- if anything because I don't want to get into bad habits.

I don't advertise either way. If I had worked in a strip club that would've been awhile ago, I wouldn't have been a decent dancer being so young - working at a club would've been the likely reason I got into pole dance and tricks.

If I hadn't worked in a club I wouldn't think it would matter to most students including professional dancers because professionals care about moves/tricks rather than trying to adapt someone else's style - it's all about you and putting your personality and style out there.

I prefer to remain mysterious about it but will say this - I got half way decent at pole tricks practicing at home and no I wasn't dancing at that time nor since.

Also consider that some instructors who have public websites may choose to negate the fact that they were dancers because friends and family could see it and some people who would prefer to keep the past/present a secret
