    Default peeling lips bad

I know it may seem like just chapped lips, but this is way worse.

For the past few years my lips are constantly peeling and dry evevn when i'm drinking a lot and taking care of them. This never ends.

Just before this I had a boyfriend who still has the same thing with his lips.

I'm really wondering if this shit is contagious. I used to have nice lips. Now, they peel of in strips.

    Does anyone have any theories?Suggestions?

Well, I don't know where you live but if you're at high altitude or someplace where it's cold a lot it could be lack of humidity. My lips were so dry & peeling that they started splitting open the first time I stayed in Denver during the winter. A humidifier in the bedroom really helps. Just an idea.

Usually that's a sign of dehydration. When you get out the shower, take your face cloth and softly rub your lips with that. Or, you could brush your lips as you brush your teeth. At night, put some Vaseline on them.

Do you use Carmex? I love that stuff.

Thanks on the advice. I'm really hoping it's not permanent.

I'm going to try exfoliating better and may get a humidifier to try that too. I did move about a year ago to a place that's always got heat or AC going.

    Hope it works...

I have the same problem. I'm looked into it, and the advice I always get is that I'm dehydrated, but even when I drink a lot of water I still get the chapped lips. I found when I was living in Japan for awhile the dry lips disappeared I guess cause it's humid there though..

I've tried lots of different lip balms, but I find the Eucerin is the best, so is the Kiehl's lip balm, but the Eucerin is a lot cheaper..

I was in the hospital for an unrelated issue, and the doctor made me stay another night, because he thought I was severely dehydrated when he saw my lips..

I might get a humidifier . I'm having the same problem even though I constantly have blistex/chapstick . I'm having a hard time not making it worse because I'm picking at them. Lipstick and gloss will help as a disguise.

I have the SAME problem, which absolutely sucks because they are my best asset besides my boobs what I find works really well and almost instantly to fix them is a clinique product called 'all about lips' that comes in a little green tube, you put it on and once it dries your lips are super smooth.
I saw a house episode where thirteen kisses that chick with the lung problem, and she gets chapped lips and house said it was a yeast infection called candida, i was prone to this till i started usin coconut oil so I guess it can be transferred (ew), guess i better start swishing with it too

I know I wondering if it isn't something like yeast or bacteria. Like one person said, doctors just assume I'm dehydrated when they see them - i'm not.

I'm trying tea tree on everything so i've been putting a little on my lips at night. This has to stop. They are ragged.

Philosophy has a lip exfoliator made with sugar and mint. you rub it on your lips and it sloughs off the dead skin. it tastes really yummy, too.

You can get it at Nordstroms - http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2896201?...:referralID=NA

My lips used to constantly peel and they stopped when I used this.

Also, the other girl is right, try to up your water intake. You may be dehydrated??

    Hope this helps

tea tree will only dry your lips further if you don't have an infection. and frankly, i think infections are pretty rare.

do you lick your lips a lot? most people with dry lips do this, but it just dries them out more. whoever recommended the clinique lip moisturizer is pretty on target, i used to work for them and that stuff rules. get yourself some medicated lip balm or chapstick. make sure it has sunscreen in it too, if you go skiing or tanning or anything like that, it's very possible you could have burnt your lips.

    I'll keep this in mind.

I checked out the clinique lip stuff. I wish it gave ingredients on the website.

I'm gonna try everything for a little bit...

So far I will say the tea tree isn't so bad mixed. I really have never had this like this until that one boyfriend who was a junkie. I drink water to the point of peeing every 15 minutes and it still never goes away.

It's peeling deep to the point of blood sometimes.

I will say that I do lick a lot. Maybe that's why the tea tree is helping yuck!

You can also use vitamin e oil, which is a bit thick and sticky, but really helps. Also you can try vitamin A&D ointment which works. B vitamins help taken internally as does drinking alot of water and eating fruits.

Instead of buying a pricey scrub- you can softly brush w/ a toothbrush or put on your oil/moisurizer/balm of hoice and let sit for a while, then use a warm washcloth to slough of the dead skin.

my lips chapped to the point of blood too sometimes so i feel your pain
after reading this thread i felt more motivated to actually do something other than lather on chap stick / clinique stuff all day long, soo yesterday, I drank a million (ok like 3) glasses of water, went to walmart and got the carmex, then i came home and swished with coconut oil (might as well) brushed my teeth, brushed my lips, dried them off and put the clinique all about lips on, once that dried I put the carmex on, and my lips still look/feel AWESOME! plus it tastes bad so reduces licking ^.^ I hope im not gonna become immune to this carmex stuff and have it stop working.

    It may be something medical
But for ordinary horribly dry lips
Use Salt and a Carrier oil and slather all around your lips.. in the little cracks on the side and just the whole bit
Leave on at least 5 min.. I do before a shower while Im running the water and piddling around

Warm water and a warm wash cloth

The toothbrush and warm water trick works but seems to leave my lips flake free ..but parched

This leaves them plump and super soft

Rather than lip balm or an oil (which only lasts maybe a 1/2 hour for me and I need to reapply)
I got this lip therapy.. anti age thing.. Ill get the name if you want.. but go to CVS or a beauty section and the skin care and look for lip care.. they are actually selling specialty lip care products like you would buy for the eye area.. Its a white gloop but super moisturizing and lasts
Put under and over your lipstick/gloss
    and keep it handy!

Yeah what's the name of the antiage lip balm you use. I may check it out.

Thanks everybody for the good ideas.

Ha ha. It is- but it's been medically proven to help.
Cod liver has numerous benefits when taken internally as well. It is high in vitamins, contains DHA, which is extremely important for the development and function of the brain and nervous system, and also really helps a person's immunity.

Honestly of all the lip balms I've ever bought, nothing but nothing tops plain old petroleum jelly. I buy the generic in a tube with a flip top cap since it fits in my purse and the lid stays on tight. Have you ever given this simple solution a few days?

AND, I am extremely upset that I went through more than two decades of life before someone told me that petroleum jelly is hands down the best makeup remover for the eyes ever, especially when wearing waterproof mascara or quality eyeliner. I mean, I had tried everything, fancy wipes, clinique stuff, and one day someone said "Use Vaseline." I thought they were crazy but lo and behold, it worked magically, and really helps me keep fresh looking eyes when working many days in a row due to extra moisture and COMPLETE removal of all previous makeup. To help reduce "crow's feet" wrinkles, wipe from the outer corner of the eye in toward the nose. My mom's done this all her life and no crow's feet!

Petrolum (Vaseline) Jelly creeps me out because of the Mineral Oil and the toxic things .. just google it..
BUT I must say my dad and 90+ granny both swear by it.. soo..
    Who Knows

When I use it on my lips I need to reapply.. just like everything else

The anti aging thing i get at CVS so I'm sure there are better brands out there
Lumene Dream Lips.. Age-defying Lip Care

do the salt/oil (I use jojaba) .. unless you got medical bleeding issues
for 5 min.. warm wash cloth.. then this stuff
apply lip liner/color/gloss whatever.. then a little bit on your finger tips of this stuff just to "seal stuff" ... and every few hours a dot more

yummy lips in no time (and im the queen of dry everything)

Honestly I've tried a lot, and after that boyfriend I really feel like its medical

But tea tree kills everything, so its better than a doctor in a way.

    So far so much better.

I still want a humidifier and this lip stuff.

I haven't kissed anyone in at least six months and when I get back to it I wanna be smooth.

there's always flax seed oil and walnut oil and stuff. the same, but not as nasty! no liquified fish fat.

Actually faxseed and walnut oil are pretty good choices in comparison to fish oil. The vitamin A&D was recommended by a physician which is why I brought it up.

maybe she should mix an anti fungal with a hydrator. like mix a couple drops of tea tree oil into some lip balm or vaseline.

Also, watch the foods that you are eating...

I noticed during one of my classes that my lips were feeling extra chapped to the point where I didn't want to talk or move my mouth. All day, my lips and mouth felt moisturized until I started drinking soda that late afternoon. Also, when I eat foods that are high in sodium, my lips tend to dry out really bad...

    Try two products:

Laura Mercier Lip Silk (high end: $22!)

    or

Alba Coconut Lip Treatment (low end $4.)

If your lips are super bad splurge on the Mercier to get them back in shape and switch to basically anything with pure coconut in it. Coconut oil is anti-viral so if you have some sort of condition with your lips this should take care of it.

I have big lips and have to wear lip shit constantly throughout the winter.

You could also try switching your lipstick, gloss or liner. Do you use the same one all the time? Maybe it's not working for you.

    Hope this helps.
