Default Rockin' the goth... or not?

I'll likely be starting next week, was told that my chances of getting hired are 99.999% (going in for the final interview tomorrow, yay!) but while my body type fits right in at this club I noticed that most of the girls are pretty normal looking in terms of hair and makeup. My personal aesthetic tends more towards a goth look in my day to day life; I have a chin-length dark red bob and very pale skin and prefer darker makeup. Obviously they wouldn't want me if my hair was an issue (and it gets a lot of compliments) but I'm wondering if it would be better to just stick to a more normal look when I'm working and save the crazy stuff for my time off. I'm comfortable either way, just wondering which will get me better money. I'll be dancing in metro orlando if that makes any difference.

try it both ways. if everyone else looks normal, you will stand out, hopefully in a good way.

depends on the type of people coming in... where you live... ect.
I had a bunch of facial piercings and they talked me into taking them out when i started working... the hair might be enough to make you stand out while still appealing to a larger group... the goth look might turn some people off and hurt your money.

I've seen girls make more money because they're goth, and I was one of them (toned down my look when I moved to Cali).

It really depends on your region and clientele. I'd try it both way, just to see what makes you more money. I've had men in Boston who told me that they wanted me because "there's just something so dark and seductive" about me.

But in Cali, the men want nothing to do with it. So just find your groove and roll with it. You'll have plenty of stripper-soul-searching time when you start dancing.

Ooof. Orlando is a rough place to dance.

I say be yourself. Anything you can do to stand out is great. You'll know in a few weeks if the guys there are into it. If I had the guts, I'd experiment with wigs!

Orlando can be rough, but it depends on the club; the one I'll be at is consistently rated as the best in town. There are eleven in town, and all but this one and another one are owned by the same people. I'll be doing day shift (because I have another job that I need to keep in order to have health insurance) as soon as I can get my occupational license later this week. Day shift at this club is not a bad thing because they're actually well known for having a good one and it's pretty busy... also this is my first time doing this so obviously I wasn't expecting to go straight to night.

I actually went in today to talk to the manager and ended up having to wait for an hour and a half (he had to go take care of some stuff and didn't know I was coming), which ended up being good because it was slow due to nasty weather and I got to talk to a lot of the girls (who kept trying to get me drunk, lol) and some of the regulars (don't worry, I wasn't taking away business from the girls). The day shift is a lot more diverse so I can keep some of my own look, but I'm going to try both ways and see how it goes (which is excellent advice and something I should have thought of on my own). I need money too much to try and push anyone's boundaries.

And I LOVE wigs! I have six and I wear them out all the time. Saves me the effort of doing my own hair.

im the only goth girl at my club.... it's strange... on bad nights i always kick myself for not being a bit more 'normal' cause im sure i'd do better...... then the next day i'll have someone come in who goes crazy for my look and happily breaks out their credit card to have their fantasy indulged...

the most important thing is looking / projecting yourself in a way that YOU feel comfortable... because at the end of the day confidence is ultimately sexy... give it a go and see how you get on....

I was rockin the goth @ a predominantly hip hop club and I banked. the next day I got "To thine own self be true" from hamlet tatted on me to remind myself if I'm ever in doubt.

    Not snarky at all.

I'm just really wishing I wasn't living in such a crappy place to be stripping.

I'm goth and in Cali I did terribly. Now I'm back in Oregon, where I'm doing much better, but after about 6 months of doing this, I had to swallow some pride and tone it down. When I was new I thought a (mild) bondage collar would be hot, because to me, it signifies rough sex. Well, I had to learn that to the average folk a bondage collar says one thing: intimidating

I've expanded my wardrobe a bit and usually try to keep some variety on me so i can alter my looks to the crowd. If a guy is young and emo or has a lot of tattoos or something, the goth thing might work for him. However, I try to look a bit more classy for older men. Finally, I just recently started hiding my septum ring and I think it helps. I still refuse to get typical stripper heels and have my knee-high boots at all times.

Finally, make sure the dj is clear that you will NEVER dance to evanescence! omg...worst experience ever...

(if your dj is cool like the one at my club, you can request to dance to skinny puppy)

Goth can be hot, but there are different levels of Goth. I agree that you should try it out, and be open to making adjustments. It's always great to stand out, but you don't want to scare people. I'd recommend going for what a very light Goth look. Tattoos are good, and dark hair is good, but go more for burlesque style than out-and-out Goth, at least initially.

SO true. Feel it out, but I am almost positive you will end up playing it down. In my experiences most guys are a bunch of ninnies who are easily intimidated by anything different.

I have to play down my rockabilly-ness so much at work, I dance to music I would never dream of buying or listening to in real life, and I even go as far as pinning my bangs back and covering tattoos.

...but once again it might work for you. Geographic and demographic factors are what will effect it the most.

It sucks so much that we can't be ourselves, but again it's all about a game we have to play. I keep reminding myself of that when I am at work.

At first it bothered me so bad, but now it's just like clockwork, I don't even think about it anymore. As much as I hate to say it, and people may get mad at me for this....but the majority of guys with money do not like the alternative types. Boo.

Funny too cause if you think about it, half the guys who turn their noses up at any "alternative" look in a SC would be the first to hit on you IRL at the 7-Eleven. It's like guys have a RL mode and a SC mode.....like a switch that they turn on and off....

Because of my heavy tattoos, I usually do a goth or punk look because guys don't know what to make of me when I wear something more conventional stripper (neon bikinis, gowns). The only exception to this is when I put on a betty page wig and wear pin-up outfits. For some reason, men are able to make the connection between tattoos and pin-up girls. That's weird, since none of them ever had tats! Perhaps it's because of the proliferation of Betty fan art that depicts her all inked up, or something . . .

If you're gonna go goth, you have to guage your audience. A lot of guys are going to be afraid of you. Sometimes a silly, party girl (not bubbly though) attitude will break through to them. Sometimes being coy works better, like the shy goth girl they had a secret crush on back in their high school english class. It's a matter of feeling it out.

All in all, though, conventional looks will always be more universally liked.

Which is why I'll def. be keeping a change or two in my bag, which I should do anyway. I've been in a couple of times since to get paperwork stuff done and some of the girls are more emo (black hair, emo kid glasses) so there's some room to work with. Start of pretty normal but with one thing a little different, and if it seems to be working that night change my skirt or something.

And I should have added that in this town, the odds are good that if a goth guy comes in, I'll already know him, and he'll probably have already seen my boobs and butt at a party at some point over the past ten years. Orlando is great for drunken skinny dipping, lol...

^well... i can tell you this:

i've worked in strip clubs for 4 years now. i have seen "goth guys" come in a club i was working at this many times:

    2

and i'm in TAMPA, where (as you probably know) there's a pretty big scene. plus, like you said, i would know them anyway.

Yep, I believe that. Alternative guys tend not to go to stripclubs, or spend much when they do. I'm a metalhead/punk, and fairly well versed in my ICP and Psychopathic records catalouge, so if a guy in an Iron Maiden shirt or wearing a Hatchet Man chain DOES come in, I need only talk to him for a few seconds before his money is mine, but it's probably only about $40.

Go with what works, and let your great personality shine through, even if the shine is from the spikes () but I wouldn't invest too much into a "hard" look until you've got your basic hustle down.

I actually think it's the whole Kat Von Dee/Dita Von Teese thing.
Exotic dancing is like any other job.
If you work in an office, you wear dress shoes and a suit.
If you work in a restaraunt, you wear skid resistant shoes and a uniform.
If you work in a strip club, you wear 7" stilettos and lycra g-strings.

On this note though, my personality and style is very Elegant Goth Lolita (some times a little snarky, some times sweet and a bit innocent, and pretty much always self-confident) Because of that, I was thinking of trying a sexy-EGL look.
My guy friends seem REALLY into it, especially since the costumes would allow me to take plenty off if I danced in a topless club (one of their main complaints when they go to a topless club is "what's the point of even wearing a top if it all comes off in the time it takes me to blink?") but I'm curious just how many guys would be into it?
If you need help getting an idea though, think porcelain doll looking, only all grown up and sexy lol
