I used to hear girls in the locker room talking about if you allow a med. student perform your augmentation (under the supervision of a cosmetic surgeon) that you pay a significantly reduced price. How does one go about this?

I know you didn't ask for opinions, but I really have to caution you very very strongly against doing this type of surgery with a med student. I understand that everyone has to learn somehow and that the discount might be tempting but this type of surgery requires a very competent, steady, and skilled hand. Think about the surgeries that were botched when the person was a certified plastic surgeon. Just my unsolicited opinion and like I said, I know you didn't ask, but I couldn't keep myself from posting it.

^^^ I'm going to agree. It may be fine for your "average Jane", but not for people who make money off of how they look.

Never, ever, ever, do discount cosmetic surgery. This is not something you want to go cheap on. If you can't wait to save there are many places that finance just cosmetic surgeries.
You may get lucky and get a nice surgery, but why take that chance?
Research and don't do it if you're not willing to spend.
I say discount shoes NOT boobs.
I only say this to protect you. I know how bad you may want this. ( I waited 8 years to get mine and nearly went crazy ) But please don't take the risk with something this serious.
I recomend looking up cosmetic surgery financing.
Either way, best of luck to you.

I wanna get my nose done and maybe my boobies , and would neva go discount, in fact im gonna wait a while for a surgeon that my friend had because her nose job was so good even though he was the most expensive at least i knw he's good, noway to discount surgery this is your body.
xoxo
Actually, depending on the surgeon this can be a great way to go. One of the best boob jobs I've ever seen (you can't even tell they're not natural) was done by student doctors. She paid $3300 for the procedure and aftercare.
I agree. I think when it comes to anything having to do with your health- it is worth the extra expense.

it's not so much that it -can't- be done right by students, it's more that you have a bigger chance of it being botched. if you do decide to go this way, i'd do a lot of research on the surgeon "in charge". i'd also read all the fine print on your paperwork so you know what your rights are should something go wrong.
personally, i agree with the people telling you it's not a good choice. but, if you're going to do it... please cover all your bases.
I think plastic surgeons train on disfigured kids in Cambodia or something. I'm not kidding. Maybe I'm wrong but I know a lot of them do humanitarian work. My boobs are the reason kids in cambodia get to have faces.

This sounds insane to me. I realize they have to practice on somebody, but it's not going to be me.
I also wouldn't pay to be someone's pratice boobs.
^^
Of course. That's why I said my boobs were the reason kids get to have faces. That's actually how my nose doctor was trained though and he is one of the best in the country. It is true that cosmetic surgery both funds research and improves techniques that benefit victims and others who need reconstructive surgery.

If there is a medical school in your area you should be able to go on their website to find the right number to call to get in for a consultation. If you can't find that number, just look up the main number, call and start asking questions till you get an answer.
I considered going this route at one point because I have 2 very prestigious medical schools in my area, but ultimately, I agree with the other lades - it was not worth the risk for me.
Good Luck!

I agree.. if you save up a little more you will be much happier.
My mom has a lot of health problems when she was younger and she went to a med.college for a surgery and they were supposed to only do a small cut and it is much bigger than what they said.. she was ok but it was only supposed to be about 2 ins, and it ended up being like 1 foot scar

sorry to threadjack, but i feel the need to clarify what i do know on this. i have done a little bit of research and luckyone isnt mistaken. understand that in 3rd world countries people have NO resources. NONE. you do not have a baby in the hospital. birth defects are much more common than here, cleft palate being one of them. clean water is a struggle in many 3rd world places, so forget being able to have the money for surgery to fix cleft palate. there is no charity or government organization to help. i did see a show about an american surgeon who donated his time to preform surgery on children born with cleft palate. i wouldnt be surprised if med students were there learning. for people in those countries, even taking a chance with botched surgery is better than none at all. people walked for DAYS to get to the city where this surgeon was. there were hundreds of children with cleft palate. and they had a lottery so not all of them could be fixed. only a small percentage of surgeons do this, considering it is more profitable to stay here and perform surgery. sorry to sound cruel, but it's true. it would not surprise me if med students trained this way. and isnt it good that they are helping people who otherwise dont have any chance at all?
and yes, the 'get to have' is unfortunately a priviledge in those places not a right like here.sad, but 3rd world countries are just very tough places.
PS- this isnt meant to attack you, mediocrity. just to clarify why some surgeons might train this way.
