So...right now I'm at a stage-only club, where the money is fairly dismal since we can't hustle for dances. I'm definitely out of there by the end of the month, but I'm having trouble deciding where to go. Opinions would be most welcome!
Club A: I've worked there for 2+ years and know it like the back of my hand (the whole 'comfort zone' thing). Pros: you get to completely make your own schedule (which is important to me, since I do theater and need to make my work schedule around my rehearsal schedule.) Cons: I was making terrible money when I went back there last time...but I don't know if that was a result of the club going downhill, or if it was my attitude/mindset (total lack of confidence as a result of having gained weight). I know a lot of the other girls were struggling to make money there...but a lot of them also had really negative/pissy/defeated attitudes, so it's hard to tell.
Club B: very upscale...which intimidates me, but also makes me think there would be a lot of $$ potential. Pros: from what I've heard, their scheduling requirements are easy and you get to make your own schedule. Cons: you have to sell a drink minimum and are encouraged to sit and talk to customers and try to sell rooms. I don't drink, and the whole conversation-and-CR hustle does not work for me; I do far better when I can lap-hop and sell $30 dances all night. (Then again, I could still lap-hop there and just pay for the drinks I don't sell.)
Another possible con is that from what I've heard, it's a very hard-hustle environment with lots of competition and you have to be an amazing hustler to make money there....but then again, I've also heard from other people that it's fairly easy to sell dances and make money there, so who knows.
And finally, Club C: a very tiny club in a high-traffic downtown area. Not a dive but also not upscale. I worked there for 2 weeks several months ago and made okay money...but like I said, it's impossible to tell what my true earning potential would have been if I had been in shape and feeling confident enough to hustle (instead of just hiding in the DR for most of the night).
Pros: I thrive in the "party club" type of atmosphere they've got there, and due to the location (on a busy city block amid tons of nightclubs/bars/restaurants) they get a lot of foot traffic on a nightly basis, so it's not a club where you have to depend on regulars. I can lap-hop all night there, and rooms were pretty easy to sell during the two weeks that I worked there before. And since it's tiny, it's jam-packed every night...which makes it easier to sell dances since 2/3 of the customers have no place to sit down and let their asses grow roots in their chairs.
Possible con: when I was there before, they capped the number of girls they would allow working on any given night, and you're not allowed to randomly come in and pick up shifts that you're not scheduled to work. At first the shifts were "first come, first served" so I would just make sure to come in when the blank schedule went up and mark myself down for weekend nights. Then they were talking about changing to a "sit down with a manager and figure out your schedule every week" method. So I'm not sure how many good (i.e. weekend) shifts I would get on a regular basis, or how flexible they'd be with allowing me to pick which nights I work. Then again, maybe putting a cap on dancers every night would allow me to make more $$ every night of the week, since I wouldn't be competing with 74625345239 girls for money on any given night. And maybe knowing that I can't pick up extra shifts would make me work harder and be less lazy on the nights that I am scheduled (which would result in more money for less time).
Sorry so long. For anyone who actually read this whole rambling novel...if these were your choices and you were me, which club would you choose to work at, and why?
