Hey Florida Chiquita's
I have never been to Orlando... I am just wondering if it's the kind of place you NEED a car, or if there is a livable downtown for pedestrians?
Thanks in advance![]()

Anything is possible. In my opinion, Central Florida, like most of Florida requires access to a car. The city does have a downtown but it's spread out so you're going to be riding buses a lot. If you're OK with that, then I suppose you don't need a car, but there really are not too many areas where you could live and have access to all the kinds of things you'd need without a car. I'm sure people do it, but it would be difficult.
But don't worry, they've been pushing for light rail in this town for a decade (at least) and one day we'll have it.
Where are you coming from?
I lived in Orlando.
You need a car.

Ok thanks that's what I thought. Lets say I was willing to live within 1 hour drive of Orlando. Is there somewhere more pleasant you would recommend? I will be there for 6 months and not dancing during that time... I heard about a place called Cocoa Beach that might be nice.

yeaa.. i agree. I've been to orlando several times and you need a car...
Depends on what you're looking for. Most Orlando suburbs are roughly the same. If you want easy beach access, Cocoa is cool and the beeline gets you to Orlando quickly. Mt Dora has a funky, cool feeling if you live right in town. Celebration is neat with a small town retro thing going on. Deland has a cool college town thing going on. Those are a few places that are a little different.
If you want young, fun, energetic/cool, try Winter Park.
you could definitely live in cocoa beach without a car. they have a trolley bus that runs up and down the road closest to the beach. i know quite a few people that live there without a car. it's small and all streets have beach access. pm me if you want more info.
daytona IMO is a cesspool avoid.

Cocoa Beach is doable without a car, it's decent.
When I used to live there, I (and everyone I know) called it Ghetto Beach.
It's definitely a place to check out for yourself and see if it fits.
LOL never ever heard ghetto beach. koo koo beach or cape carnival. it's not ghetto at all. daytona now thats another stor

Crack Canaveral!
Cokewhore Beach!
No really, the area is awesome. I lived there until I was 19, then went back from 21-24. I miss it!
I lived in Cape Carnival too. It seemed ghetto to me, not nearly as bad as Daytona, but not the prettiest either, everything seemed rather old and run down like it could use refurbishing. Merritt Island was nice.
^ It has a charm that screams "I was cool in the 60s!"
lol so true. they have torn down alot of the old stuff and built tons of new stuff though.
