It's just a remembrance; he didn't actually do anything for the nation on that day. (I believe birthdays should also be for the Mom; now she did do some work on that day.) There's probably no one in this country that doesn't respect Lincoln's presidency. But it is not yet "President's Day" which is this coming Monday.
Several big events will be held in DC. and a new Penny (Lincoln cent) will be unveiled today. That is part of a set of 4 to be released throughout this year. Now there's a keepsake we all can afford.
And "Kentucky will celebrate Abraham Lincoln's birthday with a party near his birthplace. But the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site near Hodgenville suffered considerable tree damage from the recent ice storm. So organizers moved the party to nearby Larue County High School. The celebration at Larue County High School will include the debut of a redesigned penny to reflect Lincoln's birth and early childhood in Kentucky."
Think they'll be celebrating your birthday 200 years from now? LOL
Just a little bit of trivia for the day.
