Question I want to become a dancer. Need some help please!!

Hey, it's Lela. I'm 19 years, and I want to become a dancer. I think I'm pysching myself out. I think I'll post a pic of myself so you guys can see if I need to work on anything. I'm 145lbs exactly, about 5'6" (I'm black btw, lol.). I have natural 34DDs (they're perky, lucky for me lol). My tummy is completely flat and I have abs since I was a soccer and volleyball player in high school. My hips and thighs are the only thing thats killing me. My hips are kinda wide, but that's the way they are, they prolly won't go away. They are always the same proportion even if I lose weight. My thighs are kinda chunky, but muscular. The problem that I have is that they're a little jiggly, but you can see that I workout and have muscle.

How can I get rid of the fat on my thighs without making them look like the thighs of a bodybulider? And do you think I would still get hired if I went to an audition?

I'm still new to SW, but the other threads that you lovely ladies have helped me soooooo much! Thank you ladies!!

You won't get bodybuilder thighs unless you work out like a bodybuilder. They have very specific diets and workout routines designed to put on ridiculous amounts of muscle.

I wouldn't worry too much about your body if I were you. Different clubs and managers have different ideas about how they want their dancers to look, so there's now way to know if you will get hired or not. Personality and perceived earning potential matter also. I've seen knockout gorgeous women get fired for being crazy drunks, and fat old ladies be kept on because they sold more dances than anybody else.

Really, you just have to go down there and try out.

Also, most girls automatically lose some weight within the first few months of dancing. It's a workout.

To get rid of thigh fat but stay slim, do cardio exercises. Go to the gym and run on the treadmill, go for walks, etc. Just stay off of the weight machines! Along with a healthy diet, that should do it.

Whether or not you get hired depends entirely on the club at which you want to audition and your general appearance. It's hard to tell from basic statistics whether or not you could get hired. And I know many women who don't have the conventional 'stripper look,' but their personalities make them money. It completely depends on you as an individual. Good luck!!

Thanks soooo much, Charlie and Chris. I have been running everyday for the past two weeks and doing about 120 squats everyday. It's really been working for me. I should post pics of how I look as soon as I find my camera...

I'm going to the club this coming Tuesday, so I hope I have a good experience when I go. Maybe I wont even have to audition LOL...

Good luck sweetie! Remember--even some of the hottest girls get turned down by SOME clubs. So don't lose faith if your audition doesn't go as planned. And keep us updated!

Lol. So I went to the club, and I had a really good experience. I went on a slow night, and the girls were really nice. They were pretty excited that I was going to work there. Two of them even told we what days to audition so they can help me with pole tricks.

As for my physical appearance, not to sound catty but, I looked better than some of them. Turns out that I was psyching myself out lol. This is so awesome. Even some of the customers were excited that I was auditioning (they overheard me talking. I was talking kinda loud because of the loud music.).

    I can't wait!!!

Thanks Charlie!! I couldn't be more excited. The only thing I'm more worried about now is walking in my shoes and not falling and making myself look like a doofus lol. >_>

The shoes shouldn't be a problem. Buy ones with bell heels (instead of points) and large platforms. My shoes are actually really comfortable. They have complete ankle support and can hold my weight without moving off-balance when I twist around on stage. The platforms are at such a height that the shoe is basically like a normal high heel, except with some height on it. No dramatic incline for the sole of your foot. These are the ones I use--

Wow! Those are really nice. To me, for some reason, they seem really high lol. I got a pair of 6" clear heels. I'll get those the next time I shop online I was broke before, but I luckily got my financial aid refund in the mail for 400. Right in the nick of time lol.

I have a question though. When I'm auditioning, do I accept money from customers as if I am already working there? And do they announce that I'm auditioning, or do I just go up?

In my experience, yes--you accept money like you would as a hired dancer. I wouldn't go around and hustle for money, but definitely accept what customers give you on stage, and accepting money off-stage (if the guy comes up and hands it to you) is also fine (of course). I don't know what your club rules are, though...

And whether or not they announce you depends on the club. My club had an "amateur night" where I was announced as such. But they may just throw you up on stage without introducing you as someone who's auditioning. They'll tell you what to expect if you ask!

Good luck!! Don't shake. Remember, no one knows you're nervous until you show it. So dig a place for those feelings within yourself and focus on the persona, the character, that you create as a stripper. Be confident!

Hey girl! I'm a newbie, just had my first night on saturday so I know what you're going through, don't be afraid I was shaking during my audition for the first like...20 seconds, but once you get the swing of things it's tons of fun, by the end of the night it felt like I'd been doing it a lot longer. Confidence is key! If you think you're hot shit, everyone else will too. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

This sucks lol. I went for the audition. I thought I did really well...like REALLY well. When it was all over, he said that I looked too shy... Wtf?? Oh well... He suggested that I start in a go-go bar before coming back, so I can get used to being onstage. At least he suggested something lol. Well I plan on auditioning at a go-go bar either tomorrow or monday.

Who cares! You got up there, you did it, it sounds like you didn't have the worst time with it, and it's over with! Good for you and move on! You've officially gotten the terrible first experience over with! Congrats!
