Hey Ladies,
Thought i'd post this in case anyone was looking for a "greener" solution to tampons and for working while on period. They cannot be advertised for tampon use because they are not officially sterile, but neither are the ones we use now. I asked my fav. GYN about it and she said she was a fan of the sponge tampons so I forged forward.
Not sure if this belongs in body business or here...hmmmm? Anyhoo, I tried the sea silk sponge "tampons" for the first time last week. I had never heard of them before so I decided to share. My findings are that I for the most part that I like it. I also got lucky ending up in public bathrooms that were singles...would definately have to tote a baggie and extras if ya end up in a multiple stall situation...and hope for no land shark sightings...lol...definately a little yuck factor at toting around a baggie of used sponge but hey, it's nature, right?
The first time you use the sponge you boil it for 2-5 minutes. After that you remove it rinse and re insert. At the end of your cycle, there are different solutions that you can soak the sponge in ie tea tree oil and water, baking soda and water or peroxide and water (which also removes any discoloration).
I really was surprised by how leak proof it was and how easy to put in/out and how comfortable. I wore around the house first.
Mishaps I had...lol:
I read online that they can be worn undetected during sex...yeah, well, maybe but I bought sponges that were too small the first time and it took quite a bit of splunkering to get them out after sex.
I got 3 inch sponges the next time around but was too paranoid to try it with sex again...lol
A google of sponge tampons garners mucho info.
