I wish them luck with that tax. The state will end up spending more money collecting that tax than they will ever actually get after all the law suits. For instance, will Victoria's Secret be taxed because they sell sexy items? How about KY and Astroglide? Vibrators will suddenly be repackaged as medical devices for sexual health, hence exempt from taxation.
Washington has been trying for a very long time to get rid of their sex industry, and every attempt to shut it down or clean it up just makes things worse than they were before. I work for an agency that books dancers in Seattle all the time. I'm in Oregon, the customer's card is billed in Oregon, where there is no sales tax at all. The dancers collect cash from the customer or are issued a check from out of state and a 1099 form.
The only effect this new law will have is to send more Washington state money out of state. That is, until the law is overturned by the supreme court under the 1st amendment.
Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Thanks for that too as someone else sees that the state, city, counties whomever in Washington state want strict reigns on the industry no matter whose rights are stomped all over.
I agree that more girls will leave WA to dance elsewhere, but also that lawmakers will push parts of the industry underground.
So far with the legalities that have been plaguing the area girls have been going to PDX, Vegas and doing private shows outside of the clubs because customers have been chased away.
I wont say that no one will participate in 'porn' as the state refers to it but there will be far less spectators and people working in the industry. It's not like a cell phone or expensive car insurance (luxury taxes in WA.) People are cutting back as it is for the time being.
Their budget is all on paper and the numbers are inflated so it doesn't look good for the industry when the politicians are in an economic freak out so to speak.
Aint that the truth. When are the do-gooders going to catch onto this? If you try to restrict the sex industry too much, it just gets worse and eventually becomes a lawless free for all.
Washington has a 6 foot rule and is known for having really dirty clubs. Portland allows full nudity, has only a 6 inch rule, allows hard alcohol, gambling, and is known for being one of the cleanest cities to dance in. Hmmmmm.....
