My Blog:
Not a surprise and has been rumored for months. The "Bunny" is old, anemic and has suffered greatly from years of mis-management. Look how skinny the latest issues have been - 124 pages = NO ADS. Time was the Christmas issue was over 400 pages thick.

I know this is gunna sound weird cus i am a stripper and Playboy is in the same "arena" as my profession............ but I hate Playboy.
I dont like the look that they are promoting at all, nor the mindset. The women on that god- awful television show "girls next door" are the posterchild for the american bimbo. i dont ever want to look, act, or think like any of them. If you pay attention, they cant even laugh without sounding fake. To me Playboy is like a giant ad for modern stepford wives- doting little bunnies with perfect bodies (thanks to plastic surgery) and no brains.
THANK YOU! I agree entirely. I do still have a soft spot for vintage playboy, before plastic surgery when you had real variety in bodies. Now they all pretty much look the same, and the whole thing is just so fake.
Maybe if they had held onto their roots and continued to find ways to be fresh and exciting, instead of trying to conform to the same tired porn image, they wouldn't be in such a mess.

The sad thing is that the image they are promoting spills heavily over into our world. I can remember being hired to big upscale moneymaker clubs by a manager- only to be fired a week or so later because i didnt have fake boobs or i was a little thicker.
I have heard from health care professionals that plastic surgeons are the biggest money making doctors in this country right now!!!! Watching shows like The Girls next door, Real Housewives of Orange county, amongst others, are proof that its true!!!
How sad is it that its becoming normal for women to think that they HAVE to alter their bodies to be considered beautiful. This is so so sad.
I apologize to anyone who has had surgery who may feel offended by what i am saying but its a sad phenomenon to me.........![]()
1. Playboy does promote an "airbrushed" image of female beauty.
2. They don't seem to have much trouble finding plenty of women who fit that image. If you want to blame Playboy for all the plastic surgery I suppose you can but afaik they are not subsidizing it.
3. Plastic surgeons have seen their earnings plunge in the past year or so. Hanging on to your house is more important than a new set of boobs.
4. Afaic everyone is entitled to look their best and do anything to get that look so long as it's not harmful. Personally, I think diet, exercise and good makeup is usually the best way to go.

^^ Problem is that the women, who want to look their best, believe that the artificially perfected image is what they need to compare to. When most they can't achieve that in real life, then to some it becomes harmful.
I can see that as harmful to men as well, when they believe that perfected ideal is what they want. If someone is so much into achieving that ideal, I can see that some might have little else in life that interests them. So is that what your want your girlfriend to be like? Really?
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.
Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

The magazine is dieing for several reasons:
Magazines and Newspapers have dropped in sales since 2000. with the internet picking up more and more people. As time goes by print will die.
Porn is all over the net for free, so why buy a magazine when you get it for free?
DVD sales have slid since 2004 to the point now its not worth printing them anymore for Playboy. Once again free porn on the internet.
Viewers on cable have dropped slowly globaly due to, yes you guessed it internet porn. Its free with lots of choices on demand when you want it, oh did I mention its free?
You do not need to buy a magazine anymore to view porn if your a kid, just go to your internet and there it is free and plenty of it. So no longer going to be a childhood memory of the first playboy, its going to be that first porn website you found right after you entered boobies into the search bar.
My Blog:

In its heyday it had almost no competition. Now genericily speaking you have the maxims, mens journals, etc that all have done a better job of being revelent and entertaining. Naked ladies can be found everywhere. Ill browse through a lot of magazines, but I have no interest in looking at a playboy. The last few times I looked at one it seemed dated, out of touch, and I was turned off by all the unnatural airbrushing. I think Hefs public profile and percieved influence on the mag hurt its image also. When it is gone I won't miss it.

How much can I sell my collection of old Playboy VHS tapes for?

Got issue #1 - Marilyn Monroe Miss December 1953?! Yeah, a little before my time too.
I haven't read one in years, but I'll be sad to see it go. He was one of the founders of the sexual revolution. All of us benefit for his work.
I still want to be a photographer for Playboy 'when I grow up'!
Now I'll never become a Playmate!!!![]()

Afaic, anyone, male or female who seriously expects women to look like the Playmates in Playboy needs a serious reality check. I've met a number of Playmates in real life along with a good number of published figure and glamour models. None "looked as good" as they did in their photos. They all benfitted from the lighting; make-up and re-touching. So what ?
There 's a fine line between an unrealistic ideal and an excuse for not trying to look your best. Most women I know understand the difference. Although I have to admit, I wish more of the men did.
I think it basically comes down to the fact that lots of people need serious reality checks
I think playboy served a great purpose at first, but became stagnant. I don't really see the point of most of their photos, because there's very little diversity. I like some variety in my porn![]()

I just think the media in general over the last 20 years has created poor image based ideals. Although i am an attractive girl i know the difference between naturally good looking and fake. I also know that any woman can make herself sexier by taking on a healthy approach. Exercise, diet and attitude make for a much better aura on oneself. The main thing that most of these magazines promote is physical perfection, and more often than not that is acheived through plastic enhancement and other procedures.
This is not the same as health. I have encountered it in every facet of my life and its nauseating to see where it has escalated to at this point in 2009. I see most of those "models" as the modern stepford wives, rather than sexually empowered woman - although some are the exception to what has become the norm. Everytime i hear someone tell me- "you should be a model" all i can do is wish they could see what really goes on in that world and stop deluding themselves into thinking the wholesome girl next door really has a half a shot at it in these modern times. Whats worse yet to think of is the fact that the majority of women who go for surgery (which is expensive and dangerous) where already physically "attractive" to begin with but were seeking that specific image that is so sadly hankered after due to the media's portrail of what is sexy and attractive.

Playboy is a Global Icon. Its the mystic of the American women marketed globally. Or at least it was, now its falling a part. Hef had the Playboy Inc saling high until the company fell on bad times due to loss of gambling licenses and over extending itself with the Playboy Clubs.
As time went by the company limped along and hes never fully recovered. So now with the economy tanking its only a matter of time before the Bunny goes bust. Unless someone comes in and buys out the stockholders this company is slowly dieing.
My Blog:
I think the media's influence on this is highly overrated. In particular, you mentionned something about having been fired for being 'thick'. I'm sorry to hear that, but I feel that it's simply natural for the large majority of people to prefer the look of a thin/fit looking woman over the look of a thick one.
The phenomenon you're complaining about is inevitable and peoples preferences are not going to change just because you try to tell them that it's ok to be thick, surgery is bad, etc. Those preferences don't come from the media like some people want to believe. As I said in the paragraph above, they're natural.
I do find it sad to see that some people go way overboard with surgeries, but breast augmentation is part of the game and is here to stay. Surely there are some disadvantages to it, but it's just not something worth fighting against or complaining about because there's no winning that fight. If it makes you feel inadequate, my advice is find yourself a really good surgeon and just go for it. Otherwise where's the problem... the way i see it, it just potentially negates the unfair advantage that naturally big boobed girls have over the rest![]()
Agreed. Those three dumb sluts used to make me nuts...I watched that show a few times and then said to myself "Myself, these people are about as stupid as fenceposts...why are you watching this crap? It's not even good crap."
I don't mind Playboy models but the "look" you are describing bugs me too...
Another "agreed." I haven't picked up a Playboy in ages, but the last time I did it was basically the same Playboy I used to sneak in my friend's dad's house in the 70s...pretentious advice columns about stereo systems and how to properly wear an ascot, interviews with Vegas lounge acts, etc. It caters to a man who was born in 1940 but those guys don't give a crap anymore about Playboy and advertisers don't want to put ads for Geritol in Playboy. Plus, while most guys think Hef is living the dream, they also see him as a bit of a joke too...like, none of these women are really attracted to him, he's just the ultimate sugar daddy, and sugar daddies are kinda sad.
Some form of Playboy will survive....the logo is iconic, the cache of the Playmate is still large, and the "Playboy image" has lots of power...but it's all gonna have to be used in a much different way to make money and stay relevant.
Wow. I don't even know how to respond to your borderline personal attacks nina888, so I'll just stick with your assumption about "mainstream aesthetic".
She wasn't necessarily saying plastic surgery is bad, she was saying that the standard (in playboy) almost always INVOLVING plastic surgery sends a negative message. Playboy used to be rebellious. It used to question the taboo nature of sexuality, sexual image, etc. It also used to feature what we would now call "thick" women, like Marylin Monroe, so I don't know what the fuck you're going on about with your comment about skinniness and the mainstream ideas of "beauty". The nineties are over, buddy.
Also, I don't understand your attitude of saying "breast augmentation (or anything else) is here to stay, so complaining about it is a waste of time". BA's are not bad in and of themselves. However, I think nina888 was taking issue with the way BAs have become so mainstream (and the mainstream image of beauty is starting to involve them more and more) that it causes fewer women to be happy with their natural bodies (similar to how the anorexic looking waif models from the nineties made healthy women feel horrible about not being sticks).
Of course body image is something one should work on from the inside, but one should also question the prevalence of beauty ideals based on impossible standards, or at least impossible without extreme measures like surgery. I think it is completely valid to complain about the lack of natural (and healthy) beauty ideals in popular media. Thankfully, that's starting to change, but it's taking a damned long time.
Oh, and on this site, don't ever tell a dancer that she should get surgery to "fix" an "inadequacy" (which she never said she felt). It just makes you look like a huge PL.

Actually in more recent years Playboy has been using more "natural" models meaning no breast augmentations. Don't get me wrong I hate the lack of diversity in the magazine.
Latest word has Richard Branson of Virgin trying to buy Playboy. Hefner reportedly wants $300 Million = rotflmao ! He'll be lucky to get 1/3 of that.
