    Default Pulled both rotator cuffs

Last weekend, I had the bright idea to do pull-ups over my kitchen doorframe. I've been out of work since.

At first, only one of my shoulders seemed to be useless. And I went onstage a few times, thinking I could only use one arm for my whole routine. Well, with a little creativity I did it, but then the other shoulder went to shit.

So I told my boss I was taking a few days off to let it heal and I've been trying to rest my arms (asking the love to do all my heavy lifting, not really exercising at all), using icy-hot patches that left big crusty squares on my back, and light stretching. And I'm pounding protein as much as ever. But I haven't been able to sleep much because of other reasons.

But it's still not feeling better and I'm scared to go up on stage again tomorrow, even though I've sworn myself off pole work for the next month. I don't want to fuck up my shoulders more and have it be a recurring issue.

I guess my question is, how much longer should I give it before I dare use them again? I'm a very vigorous dancer, even in my floorwork. To me, there's really not much of a point to even go into work if I don't go onstage, since that's what I use to get dances.

    Any suggestions?

Anyone? Time to heal before going up on stage?

Are you sure it is a rotator cuff pull, or do you kow the extent? Hopefully it was a pull and not a tear. Have you been to a doctor or a sports physiologist to get examined?

Is their any range of motion that you can make without pain? Lift arm up vs lower it? Push vs. pull? etc.?

Other than rest, if there is a direction of motion that is painless, you can do some light shoulder exercises to strenghten the other muscles around the shoulder.

Recovery time can vary depending on the extent of the pull/tear. It can take up to a year to determine if you ultimately need surgery.

Hope you feel better soon. Take care.

    Thank you, verfolgung.....

I'm not positive that's what it was, but after talking to the other girls about my range of motion, every one of them who had rotator cuff injuries spoke up.

Seemed fine at work last week, even did some pole work that seemed okay at the time but I'm regretting now. Guess I actually do just have to let them rest for a few weeks....

Rotator cuffs are tricky. You definately want to rest for at least 2 weeks. Take ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. Use a sling to immobilize the arm while healing.

After resting the arm for 2 weeks, start working on physical therapy exercises. Here's a website with some excellent exercises for rotator cuff. These are going to be key to complete recovery, and you will have to continue to use the exercises for years. Rotator cuffs don't heal very fast and can be more vulnerable to injury after having been injured already.

If you find that you are swolen or bruised, go the the Dr. right away. Also, if you have shooting pain or other symptoms (numbness, tingling, weak grip, fever, shaking) go to your dr. right away. You may have an infection or even a spine or neural issue.

I would seriously wait at least a week. that would suck to lose your whole dancing career for a little stubborness. I hope you heal soon. I know how bad it sucks to injure yourself. ive been there.
