Default Screw this daylight living! I give up...

I've always been a night owl, and since last March I've been back in school with classes starting between 8-9am most days. This is just too early for me to function properly.

I'm sitting here at 6pm trying to work on some homework, falling asleep at my desk, and I just know that if I try to take a nap, I'll be up until 2am and when 6:30 rolls around I just won't be able to get out of bed for class.

I guess I'm just complaining that I'm not cut out for day living. I doubt there is anything I can do to change my natural circadian rhythms.

Ugghh I so feel you. I have an 8 am class and I worked last night, and then studied to 4. then woke up at 6:30, to take a midterm. I was like the walking dead when I arrived.

I work till 8 am, get home by 9:30. Last semester I took an 11 am class (only one available and needed to take it!)... Not good.

    I hear ya.

Ohhh, I so hear you! I'm not happy when people start calling me at 11am, but if they call earlier I am majorly threatening them in my head.

I only function during the hours between 11am and 3am. It sucks when you forget the bank (and all other places of business) have normal business hours for normal people. Hooray for twenty four hour walmarts!

I would kill for there to be a 24 hour grocery store near my house. Literally.

I SO agree with this!!! I am just a night person and I always will be. I have to take an 8am class this semester too, followed by a 9:30, and an 11am class. I literally doze off in class sometimes and wake up to find I've attempted to take notes while sleeping. During the summer, when I could sleep 4am-12noon, it was perfect!

24 hr walmart is the best, I just wish banks and such would follow their example!

I've used modafinil in the past to help me adjust to staying up all day, but I'm out and that stuff is very, very expensive (like $175 for a 30 day supply including shipping from an overseas pharmacy). Its amazing what a difference that stuff makes, its a little bit like needing glasses, then when you get your glasses you wonder how you got by before.

Yes, the banking thing is kind of a pain, too. You really don't have much of a choice when you earn cash, though, you gotta walk in the bank and make a deposit. I've used night drops before, and have never had a problem, but I don't fully trust a night drop w/cash.

I believe it's a natural product, melatonin, you can try that, I know MANY people that have tried this and it's worked for them, hope it works for you too!

this is one of the reasons i gave up on school. at least for now. maybe when i'm 30 or something i'll be able to manage it. hell, i'm taking a yoga teacher training course, and i've already managed to miss one of the classes. 11:30-5...and i woke up at 4:30. how bad is that? the makeup work is a lot harder and more time consuming than the class, so i'm not ever gonna let that happen again.

as for errands...i'll usually either stay up till places i need to go are open, then sleep. or i'll go to bed as soon as i can, wake up around 2pm, and have a couple hours left to get to the bank and other places with sadistic hours.

i used to be able to manage by pulling all nighters. these days, i can go 24 hours, but not the 36 necessary to avoid screwing up my body clock further.

The mortals get a little nervous when you don't even try to follow their boring 'early to rise gets worms first' lifestyle. But fuck it, I gave up all pretense of trying years ago.

Some people are just nocturnal by nature. I mean physically so as well as psychologically, but we are very rare. I believe there has been research done that backs that assertion up.

What I hate, other than trying to get mortal daylight type business/shopping done in small towns, and not being able to get a tan naturally, is what I am dealing with right now as I type this...

Vampire insomnia. It's worst after working, worst after a couple nights in a row, worst after busy nights. I laid down for an hour or so sometime after work last night but could not sleep, not yet. Actually, I don't even mind it at all if I have the night off, but I have to be at the club all energetic and psyched up in a little over 5 hours.

You're a retired dancer, no?? Do you still do activities (part time job, or social) that conform with your old hours?? I must sometimes go back & forth between night hrs & day hrs. Once I'm on something consistently, I can stay on that particular schedule, more or less. Its the day or 2 transition that can be problematical. When transitioning between the 2, a 2-4 hr catnap just prior to your "new hours" can be helpful for starters.

But, if you're going to school, AND working night/graveyard part time job, and/or going out at night into wee hrs. , then that is a problem on cicadian rythmn.

I don't do much as far as evening activities as I just can't deviate from my sleep cycle for even an hour or two or it will take me weeks to get back to day living. Waking is extremely difficult, I have 2 alarm clocks in different rooms that I must shut off, and my kitties jump on me when the alarm goes off because they know breakfast can't be to far away.

I've been smoking pot in the evenings and that helps some, but most days I'm up between 1-3am and have a hell of a time getting back to sleep before 4am. I don't suffer insomnia when I can sleep my natural cycle, which is 4-5am until noon or 1pm. When I go on vacation or take some time off, I'm right back to that schedule.

I'm okay with my nocturnal cycle. Working as a stripper worked out very well for me, and I never felt like I was going against my nature. Never had to use an alarm clock, never had to use any kind of sleep aid, and never suffered from insomnia. When I'm done with school, I want to get work that allows me to work at night, primarily. I'd love to buy a strip club of my own, as a matter of fact!

I hear you! I grew up in a city where lots of things were opened 24hrs. Then I moved to San Fran (a bigger city) and NOTHING was open 24 hrs and I had to drive like 30 minutes from where I lived just to get to a discount store like Target/Kmart/Wal-mart.

I don't understand why more cities don't have 24hr stores. Think how much more society could get done if people were actually able to work with their own natural "waking" hours!
