    Default Slippery Pole

Help! I just ordered a removeable pole from Lil' Mynx for my home. The pole is 2'' in circumference and the same brand as the pole at work. The pole I have at home is so slippery! I can barely stay on it. I tried rubbing the pole and my hands down with rubbing alcohol.

    Any suggestions?

Go to the Lil Mynx site they have a product in accessories called Tite Grip, you put it on your hands and feet so you don't slip as much. But you still might wanna run it down when your done too. It will be good so that it can help you practice. Your pole at work isnt slippery right? This might work, I believe it's $9 but i dont remember the shipping fees.

What color did you get? I'm buying one too, & im gonna go with black. Im excited to get it in the mail

If the LM is slippery...then you probably have the stainless one...the colored ones are powder coated and are far from slippery...in fact they rip skin if you are not careful!

Stay away from grip aids...you cant use them at work...so why bother. Learn properly!

Alcohol will not remove some things...suggestion is to use acetone to clean the pole well....then if you really need grip, use gillette shave gel. Cheap, does not glow under black lights...and does not leave the pole a mess!

i sometime shave that problem....but i find the pole much easier to grip when warm. the colder the pole. the more slippery it is.

    have you tried using chalk?

I find chalk very slippery personally. LM poles tend to be slippier than other stainless poles. You'll want to avoid using grip aids, try acetone and dawn dish detergent.

I have heard of some women going as far as sanding their poles - I wouldn't but you can check out www.femininemovement.net - this is the S Factor forum and many of the women on that forum have LM poles and are chock full of advice and tips.

I know it's been suggested not to use a grip aide like tite or mighty grip but they helped me learn the moves and once I got them down I was able to do without. Your hands are probably so slippery because you're nervous, but once you learn the move you'll feel more confident and won't need the extra grip.

    Hope this helps!

i read that shaving foam is the best thing to use, rub foam over the pole withn a cloth. that or neat vodka. me and one of the girls were practising at work and the pole was slippy so we went to the bar to get a shot of vodka to clean it and the house mum went mad saying its the equivalent of buying the pole a drink! lol wtf!!!!

If you are at work you can try baby wipes - the really cheap ones with out aloe or anything like that - I mean no moiturizers or anything.

This way you don't have to buy the pole a shot

I wouldnt use tite grip all the time. Like Flaka I use it til i get somefotable with the move so im not nevous. I dont use it al the time. Thats a bad way to earn, and probably not healthy in the long run. It really is, and I am sorry if i made it seem like you should constantly use it all the time, because thats not what i meant. Sorry if i confused you.

My LM pole was super slippery for a few weeks, then got way more grippy. I think that there is some sort of lubricant in the spring at the top that gets on the pole during shipping. Maybe? I'd say try wiping it down really well and stick to the easier moves for a bit and see if the slipperiness gets better.

Try jumping on your pole after you take a shower (and after you've dried off). Sometimes the moisture content in my skin is so low that I fly right off of my pole...but I stick like white on rice when I get on it directly after I shower. This might be your problem?

Think there's anything I can do to the one at work? I already wipe it down with rubbing alcohol on a rag but it doesn't always help enough, it gets so slippery. And doesn't acetone dissolve your acrylics?
Try some dish liquid - I suggest basic dawn but any harsh dish liquid will work. Also it helps if you wipe down with alcohol/water solution 50/50 should do it - that way you're skin doesn't get too dry but nice and clean for pole tricks.

I'm wondering if it's a matter of the pole just being warm enough. When you are at home you play on it awhile and it gets warm and grippy - in the club setting if no one is doing tricks it might just be cold - I assume that the club runs air conditioning of some sort? If so, it could be a combo of cold pole and low humidity.

    Angel,

I got the 2'' stainless pole. I was thinking about going with the petite, because I am 5'1''. But the pole at work is 2" and I wanted to be consistent. With shipping, the pole cost me $300 and I have to say that I really like it (except for the slippery part). It is removable and you can put it up in seconds. It is sturdy, for tricks, and the mount which remains in the ceiling even has a hook on it for "decoy" purposes.

    Yes, on your hands...

Literally a small pea size amount on your finger...rub on hands, thighs, calves or obliques for grip!

You might want to try using some resin on it for awhile until it's not so slick. Resin has really good grip, but can be hard to get off of your hands.

As for using grips at work... I do. I keep a bottle of Dry Hands in my dance bag or purse and apply it before going on stage. My hands tend to sweat a lot and I think I may have some sort of allergy to some of the metals because I've literally gotten itchy and had bumps from poles before. I love the pole work but the minute I start thinking about the pole my hands sweat... and Dry Hands is like a miracle worker for me!
