Default What Every Dancer Should Have in Their Bag!

This thread is mostly for N0obs who are interested in knowing what should be in a dancer's bag. It's also a review for those who have danced before, who want to remember what goes in their bag.

I returned to dancing a few days ago. I also visited this site before I did [of course!]. And while I was putting together my things for work I thought that it would be a great idea to include in a post, all of the things that a dancer should have in their dancer bag!

Your dancer bag can be a simple as a backpack, a suitcase on wheels, a travel bag or something similar. As long as it can hold your items and you can lock it up or put it in your locker then you will be fine. I use a sports bag that has several pockets so I can hide my things in the sides and keep my clothes and other larger items in the middle.

Here now is a checklist of things that are most likely included in a dancer's bag, starting with the most obvious:

    1. Your dancer clothes - I keep my clothes in a plastic bag, but i've known other dancers who use plastic zip-lock bags to organize their outfits. Some bring dryer sheets to put into the bags so the clothes stay fresh. Keeping them in a separate plastic bag keeps your clothes clean just in case there is anything in your bag that could stain them. It also keeps them nice and clean and un-wrinkled when you want to put on a new outfit.

2- Your makeup - Obvious. Gotta have a little makeup to bring with you. Some dancers do their makeup at home, and some do it at work before their shift. Bring a small makeup bag with you, one that zips up and fits nicely in your bag. Ive seen dancers drag in huge Caboodles boxes with makeup. This is not a fashion show and you only have to do makeup for yourself so get a makeup bag that fits into your dancer bag and your life will be a lot easier. It doesn't have to be complicated. A Basic makeup set in your bag would have a complimentary lipstick or lip gloss, eyeshadow, mascara, powder/foundation, and blush, blush brush, makeup sponge and maybe an eyelash curler.

    3. Hairspray, or hair products - Bring these because as said before you don't want to get there and realize that you don't have any hairspray to use, or whatever you need to make your hair look glam. Sample sizes are great too because they fit neatly in the pocket of your bag and if your stuff is ever stolen you wont take a huge loss [and that does happen if you don't lock it up, you leave it out on the counter and forget it, or you let someone borrow it and they never return it.]

    4. Your Hairbrush - Bring your hairbrush please. You dont want to get there and realize that you forgot your hairbrush, and then ask Suzy Dancer if you can use hers - but she has LICE! and she didnt tell you! Bring your own brush and avoid this situation. Youll feel better and youl be able to freshen up your hairstyle later on after you've been flipping your hair around sexily on stage..

    5. Shoes - Your dancer shoes may be small enough to fit into your bag. Its important to bring them....One time i headed out for the club and i drove all the way there and forgot my shoes! not a happy scene. It would have been easier if my shoes fit into my bag but I wear boots so they are a bit large. If you do keep your shoes in your bag, remember that your clothes are also in there so consider putting your clothes in a plastic bag so your shoes do not get them dirty. That floor is dirty to so consider bringing them with you and keeping them out of your bag, if that is your preference. Appropriate shoe wear for a strip club has a heel that is at least two inches. In fact, your club may have regulations on what heel size they want their girls to wear. Flats are not appropriate stripper wear.

    6. - Tampons - Obvious. You'll need these just in case aunt Flo visits and you don't want to have to ask around the club for an extra one like those other girls who aren't prepared. Just pack a few away in the side compartment of your bag so you can be prepared when the time comes. Most if not all dancers use these because it is next to impossible to dance while wearing a pad! You may also want to bring your own pair of siccors, maybe some small sewing siccors, to cut the string of your tampon so that you do not have it hanging in the wrong place at the wrong time [like on stage!Watch hose blacklights...] Don't worry, all you have to do is reach inside and retrieve it when you need to change, its not a big deal. Being prepared will save you during that special time of the month, and you wont have anything to worry about. Moving on!

    7. Gum, breath mints - Another Obvious. Even though the cusomers may not care what they smell like, us as dancers, have to be pretty and smell nice. Part of that is making sure your breath is fresh when you whisper in his ear that you want to take him to the VIP and give him the dance of his life! Bring some gum or mints, youll be glad that you did and youll have confidence to approach customers. One dancer that I knew kept a toothbrush and toothpaste in travel size in her bag just in case she chowed down at the club and needed to freshen up.

    8. Razor - I also have seen dancers who keep a razor in their locker for a touchup just in case there was a spot that they missed while shaving. it helps to have lotion with this too, you dont want to do it dry or youll have razor bumps. Un-sexy. This is optional. its always better to be prepared and get smooth before you get to work so you dont have to worry about a thing.

    9. Perfume - Must smell yummy. Bring somethng sensual, flirty or fun. Please dont wear charlie, or White musk, lol. Try for something exotic or refreshing. Expensive perfumes are not necessary. What works best are body sprays, something light that you can spray on after your stage set to freshen up. Guys like it when you smell nice, but don't over do it. The idea of perfume is to have a hint of scent to keep them guessing and getting closer to you..This also goes for Pheremones [search threads for this too] *Also* dont forget to bring Deoderant with you in case you need to use some during your shift. Its nice to be 'so fresh, so clean'

    10. Bodyspray. - Some dancers use this . Use it sparingly, if at all. If you use this it is your preference. Some dancers advocate against it for health reasons, and that is completely understandable. There are threads here that discuss why.

    11. Garter - You should bring a garter to keep your money in. Some chicks keep their cash in their locker which is fine. but if you want to keep your money on you, then you should bring a few garters [in different colors, if you are color-coordinating your outfits]. You can find garters either at your club if the house mom sells them, or locally where they sell dance wear [like at a sex/lingerie shop] or even on the intenets at e-bay. Keeping your money in your garter is easy. You fold the dollars in half over your garter and wrap a rubber band or hair tie around it to secure it. It will be safer if you keep your money with you at all times.

    12. Snacks, soda - bring something light just in case you want to take a break and have a snack. Sometimes dancers order food at the club but a lot of times, it is takeout food and it can be greasy or fried and this could weigh you down or make you sluggish. Greasy food is not good. Neither is food that has garlic in it, lol So bring a light snack, like cheese crackers, an apple or orange, something that is going to give you energy and will be good for your body. Spending money on takeout is overrated anyway. You may also be at a club that has a kitchen but its easy to get tired of the same food night after night. So a snack would be great. I also pack an energy shot into my bag just in case I need a boost in the last few hours of my shift.

    13. A Lock for your Locker - dont forget to bring this just in case your club does not provide locks for your locker. Some dancers use a padlock and keep the key with them when they dance. Some use a combination lock. Gotta make sure that you lock your stuff up. There is no such thing as a safe club where people do not steal Even clubs that have cameras in the dressing rooms aren't safe. Bring a lock.

Finally, what NOT to bring to the club.

    14. Glitter, lotion and Oils... *Please* do not wear glitter. Glitter is super cute when you are 17 and you are on the beach with your boyfriend. Glitter does not belong in the strip club. Why, you ask? Customers who come to the club to be discreet are not looking to go home with glitter all over their business suit. Massive amounts of glitter poured on you is not going to make much of a difference in the dim lights anyway. And, glitter that falls on the stage can be *very* slippery. You wouldn't want to slip on that stuff. And that brings me to Lotions or Oils,. Its obvious that these things are going to grease up the stage and the pole. You don't want to be the one to fall on the stage or be the one who makes other dancers slip and fall because you had to put oil, cocoa butter, Vaseline, or any other type of lotion all over your body. If you need some moisture, put your lotion on after the shower or bring some light moisturizer that is quickly absorbed [nivea works great]. you want the lotion to disappear into your skin and not leave a greasy after feel. Try to not do this before your stage set, either. Please be considerate with this. Oil on the stage is dangerous to you and to other dancers.

Please, experienced dancers, add to this thread! Expand it! I hope that this helps!

    This should be a sticky.

For the newbies: make sure to bring some form of identification for your first time at the club.

I ALWAYS bring two pairs of shoes. I can't wear one pair for more than four hours without my feet hurting, and changing halfway thru my shift prevents this.

I always keep a birthday card or two in my locker. That way when your favorite regular comes in and tells you it's his birthday, you say "I know! Happy Birthday! I remembered- I have a card for you in my locker." He thinks you were thinking about him- bonus $$$$.

Cell phone is absolutely mandatory. Nobody wants to be stranded at 3 am if something happens with their car... Especially a beautiful girl with a bunch of cash on her.

I keep a toothbrush and toothpaste in my locker as well. Just good to have!

Deodorant also goes in the bag. Sometimes after a lot of dancing I need to put some more on.

Jewelry and accessories. I always wear a break away thong, rhinestone belly ring, choker, studs, and ankle bracelet. But, everyone is different. Have fun with it!

I always used to bring wet wipes, and a few elastic bands for when I started putting the money on my shoes strap rather than using a garter.
Also my personal stereo so I could listen to stuff that would get me in the mood on my train travel to the club.

Great thread!! Lets see, in my dancer bag I have:

    - My shoes I only have one pair, I really should have two

    - My outfits each in its own ziploc bag, so they don't all get smokey from the one or two outfits I wear on the floor that night. Also, it stops me raking through allllll my outfits for one particular thongs etc; I know it'll be with the rest of the outfit

    - My make-up bag I usually do my make-up before I get there but I like to touch-up throughout the night

    - My hair straighteners but only if I haven't had time to do my hair at home

    - Body spray of course!

    - Hairbrush and little mirror because you really don't wanna borrow a brush!

    - Water I always take one bottle, and usually a can of RedBull or something too. I hate getting thirsty at work and I refuse to pay the crazy drink prices at my club for it.

    - Snack If I'm gonna be there more than 4-5 hours, which is most of the time, I'll take chips/muffin/bagel/fruit etc. Just something I can munch on if I get hungry, so that I don't wind up leaving my shift early just to go eat.

    - Cell phone AND charger I actually bought a second charger for my cell phone that I always keep in my dancer bag. One time my phone died on my during my shift and I wasn't able to get it touch with my friends who were picking me up etc, it was a nightmare

    - Small cash just in case, God forbid, I don't make my tipout. Never happened so far, but I'd hate it if it did.

    - Elastic bands to go around the money on my garter.

    - Tic tacs for obvious reasons

    - Wet wipes I've never really used these actually but it's a good idea to have 'em

    - Bandaids and painkillers for the inevitable times you get a blister, or a headache!

    - Hand sanitiser I like to feel clean when I leave

Also I have a bunch of random crap, like pens and a notebook, my ipod, travel moisturizer, my keys and wallet, candy, nail file etc. No doubt I missed something really obvious, but that's the most of it!

Yeah, I was gonna say always bring a "backup" pair of shoes. I had a shoe break on me one time, didn't bring an extra pair and wound up having to go home, missed out on a good money night too.

Also, management (depending on the club) might not always be so understanding and let you go home, or leave to go get another pair. I worked at one club and they were such fucking hardcore sticklers about letting girls go home early no matter what the reason

    - Baby wipes! You can never have too many baby wipes! After you go to the restroom: use one. After you get off stage, or finish with a bunch of dances, or whatever got you sweaty: use a baby wipe.

    - Purell or other antibactierial gel sanitizer: you're touching money, the stage floor (how much you wanna bet that your club uses the same nasty old mop on the stage that they use to clean the men's room floor?) and maybe strangers, and then your own body. Maybe you're smoking a cig or doing something else that's putting your hand near any opening in your body. Keep your hands clean!

    - Water! Soda, even diet, is bad for you. Some clubs will charge you like a custie for bottled water (in a pinch, I just get customers to buy them for me), and others will offer you free tap water. Better to just bring your own big bottle to keep in the dressing room.

Just a note: please do NOT drown yourself in perfume or body spray! If you douse yourself with it in the dressing room, it gets all over everything in the near vicinity- other dancers, their bags and clothes, etc. It rubs off on the customers, which is almost as bad as glitter, and it isn't fun walking through the cloud that follows a person with too much scent on. It is good to smell nice, but go easy with it!

Good ideas to prevent this- spray your outfit lightly, or better yet, your hair, rather than your whole body. Perfume or essential oils on just the pulse points and no where else, also will give you that light scent that as the op suggested, 'keeps them guessing'

im not a dancer yetttt, but when we travel for dance, i always attack the "travel size" section of walmart/target. my dance bag has everything my house does.

if you think you could POSSIBLY ever need it, chances are there will be one time where you are SO lucky you brought it. maybe a friend might be in desperate need of your tube of eyelash glue that you never use. lol

As for the body spray thing - use a quality scent. LAYER it. Soap, lotion and then before work LIGHTLY spray your skin. When you get to work and have your work clothes on. Daub a bit of your scent on wrists. Ankles and neck.

    That is all you need.

For a NON TRAVELING dancer, her bag should have:
    Baby wipes.
    Work clothes
Shoes ( in plastic bags )
    Cosmetics.
A brush and or flat iron.
First aid kit ( band aids, neosporin. Ibprophin and some Alka seltzer or Tums )
Second smaller bag to put your street clothes in, with plastic bag for shoes.
Extra pair of socks and undies.

    For the TRAVELING Entertainer:
    Travel size everything:
baby wipes, soap shampoo and so on.
first aid kit ( same as above, add super glue )
    sewing kit.
    Brush, comb and flat iron
Work clothes and shoes in plastic bags
Wallet for important papers ( ID, passport)
Lock and key WITH EXTRA KEY ( extra lock would not hurt )
Street clothes bag with plastic bag for shoes.
Extra set of street clothes complete with undies and socks.
    cosmetics.

this is going to sound weird, but i always have a lighter in my bag, some of my shoes have strings, i.e. boots, and the lace broke one time, the lighter kind of cotterizes? sp, the laces, so if you have anything with laces, a lighter is a good idea.

-Tampons and sewing scissors for the obvious reasons.

-cheap first aid kit (even if it just has bandaids and little neosporin packs its better than having to hunt up one when you get a blister or a paper cut)

-baby wipes. these are especially useful in nude bars. gods only knows how clean that tip rail really is and you know how close it gets to ... places. also some customers have a nasty habit of trying to lick, touch or even cum on your leg. This is also why I keep

-Hand sanitiser. Money, poles, stages, seats, drinks, shoes, cigarettes, bathrooms, custies and the living petri dish that is the never steam cleaned carpet in a bar, not to mention the loverly fellow dancers that come in when they're sick just to share.

    - Deodorant. Even if you remembered to put it on in the out the door rush to work, you will be working up a sweat while at work and they have yet to design a deodorant that lasts longer than five hours.

-Body spray. Even if you only use a little bit here and there, it's always nice to have more for later be it dancing till you get sweaty, eating greasy bar food, or ending up in the bathroom with someone who turns the place into a stink lodge.

    -Rubber bands/hair ties/garters. Need I say more?

-Brush. It's been covered. Always have your own brush/comb.

-Snacks. I'm get woozy pretty fast when I don't eat, esp if I end up drinking. Chips, crackers, granola bars, little debbies, something to nibble on to keep money in your garter and the dancer upright, especially if drinking is on the agenda for the evening.

-Water or gatorade. Something cold and refreshing to keep hydrated. Also water and gatorade will both help reduce the side effects of excessive booze.

    -Gum/mints/tooth brush. It's been said.

-Make up/ hair stuff. A touch up kit for those long shifts.

    -Cell phone.

-Lighter. Even if you don't smoke, lighting custies cigarettes is a great way to break ice.

I also suggest pepper spray for walking to the car/bus stop at night, esp if you don't have a matched set of 6' tall menacing black trench coated room mates to escort you to and from the club. (I have both but then I live by the "A little paranoia never hurt anyone" philosophy.)

Another note for new dancers: Please, for the love of god, do NOT bring your stash to the bar. Whatever you do on your own time is fine and I can't cast aspersions and certainly won't judge. Bringing your recreational materials to work can result in everything from having said stash get stolen to being arrested for possession charges as well as prostitution charges should the club get raided, which also has the potential for the club to lose it's license either for entertainment or for liquor, resulting in loss of club to work at, black listing and likely jail time. The risk is just to great to the venue, the other dances and to yourself. And it gets on my nerves.

Okay, I may be weird but I also have a small multi-tool and a screw driver and small screws in my bag too...
Multi-tool - leather punch, I've had to put another hole in my shoes straps and in other girls shoes.. pliers, help with stuck zippers... file, broken nail... etc....
And for the screw driver and screws... how many of you have ever busted the ankle strap on your shoe? Sometimes superglue just wont hold.....
"I've hit rock bottom before but I've climbed outta that hole and planted daisy's on top of it. I forget to water them sometimes but I manage."

"I can be a bitch. I like to be a bitch sometimes. People leave you alone when you are."
