Default Help me improve my DJ banter

I am a retired dancer applying for a DJ position and I think I have a really good chance of getting it and being great at it. I have some strip club DJ experience and I think my stripping background would make me a great coworker for dancers.

Before going in for my "audition" I've been trying to remember how to be an MC and I only vaguely recall some of it:
introducing dancers ["Please welcome to the stage the (adjective)(stage name)" Boring but effective.]
    announcing second song of set
announcing conclusion of set and availability of dancer for private dances
    reminding of price structure/specials
    sexily describing private dances...

I'd really appreciate examples of banter you have heard that was especially funny, encouraged guys to buy dances, and non-rude ways saying "Tip or GTFO" - especially for a female DJ playing up a sultry voice instead of the monster truck rally voice.

Any other mentorship or advice other DJ's could give I would also completely love you for.

Whoever is on the stage, talk her up so she sounds like the hottest, sexiest girl alive. Find some special feature about her to play up--her great ass, her hair color, SOMETHING.

One of our DJ's (also a former dancer), likes to say, "the better you tip, the better they strip!" You could also do something like, "Remember, these ladies work for tips and tips alone, so if you aren't tipping, thank you for coming to see us and we hope you'll come back later!"

I think that, since you're a former dancer, you'll be really good at helping the ladies hustle. Good luck with the audition!

One of our DJ's says, "remember guys, this ain't a free show! Show these girls some love if you want some back."

Also, for those that have seen Zombie Strippers, I kind of like the line, "If you tip well, these ladies will come out with nothing on but the music!"

Something else I'd like to see in more DJ's is them paying attention to the girls performance. Once, the DJ noticed that it was slow and no one was coming up to tip me while I was dancing. As he transitioned into the second song, he announced "I don't know if any of noticed, but we have a sexy, naked lady up here waiting for you to say hi. What the hell is wrong with you guys!" I'm not sure if the tips I got were due to his announcement, but it did encourage me (which is definitely appreciated when no one seems to be paying attenion)

We have a female DJ at our club occasionally. I don't know why, but I love it when she says "don't be shy step right up and tip that beautiful lady!"
When it comes down to it, I'll let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better then them.

Make stuff up about the dancers on stage that is obviously made up. For instance I had a DJ introduce me as a NYT Best Selling Novelist one time. It was funny and cute and unexpected. He would introduce the girls like that all the time. He would say things like "she came all the way from Hawaii and is here to entertain you gentleman" or "As seen in Playboy's College Girls special" or whatever.

Eventually the girls would start requesting intro titles from the DJ. It got to be a point of interest for the regulars, trying to figure out what prestigious sideline the girls are going to claim that week.

My fav was International StripTease Ambassador to Latvia.

"tipping equals stripping" "no greenery means no scenery" "you don't work for free and neither do these girls". are all frequently heard at my club. make sure you also remember to announce who's next after the girl on stage but before she has to go up.

"this is the last song of mandy's set, but we've got lizzy standing by".
"If she wants to dance and drink all night, well there's no one that can stop her. She's going til the house lights come up or her stomach spills onto the floor. This night is gonna end when we're damn well ready for it to be over, worked all week long, and now the music is playing on our time. Yeah we do what we do to get by, and then we need a release!" - Against Me!, "Thrash Unreal"

"remember gentlemen, no money, no honey!" "if you are seated at the stage, tipping is mandatory", on a busy night the DJ might add, if you are not tipping to kindly get up so someone who is going to can have a seat. Also, I find it effective when the DJ mentions that neither I or the other dancers get paychecks, whatever we make in tips is what we take home for the night.

"And remember guys to please take are of these lovely ladies, the doormen, and bartenders. They are here to make sure that you are having a great time here at (club name) tonight!"

It's simple but I like that it doesn't use "tip" at all. Our DJ uses it a bunch

I like creative DJ's and I second what Paris said about making up silly stuff. Once when I was late to work and they were short on girls, the DJ announced on the mic that I was a traveling dancer with the Norwegian stripper exchange program! The silly dudes ate that shit up, I made fucking bank on that stage set and all the guys kept asking me about it...
Also just finding creative little things, like one of the DJ's would say "and now for the changing of the guard!" at the end of our sets...silly...

    Common phrases:

"If you aint tipping, they aint strippin'!"

"This isnt basic cable guys, this is pay-per-view! The more you pay the more you view!"

"Why dont you get up there and show (insert name) some love, put a little greenery on that sexy scenary"

"What are you waiting for? They dont bite....unless you want them to!"

Well, it was a little awkward - but I guess I'm in! I'm going to be getting training with different DJ's this week and getting two days of my own shift next week.

I still need any advice you have as I am incredibly rusty.

I have some tips for when you get hired because I am sure that you will!!!...

Not sure what kind of club you are auditioning at, but I have always found that in smaller- regular driven clubs, it is best to "befriend" the regs by making fun of them. Talk with them and get to know them so you have some ammunition when they go to tip someone or get led to the back room for a dance. That gives the place a 'Cheers' type of feel. Just getting the custies involved with what is going on in the club keeps people coming back and feel appreciated.

I remember the very first time I went into a club where the DJ's were treated like rockstars... Whisky-a-Go-Go in Toronto, Canada! Every DJ there had a few sayings that once they started in the whole club (and I mean the whole club!) would chime in to finish the sentence! It was crazy! They even had T-shirts with their sayings on them! My point here is to make the atmosphere like a party. Don't just talk to make noise. Talk to get people involved and having an even better time than they already are.

One last thing. Pay attention to what is going on in the club. The best DJ's out there are puppet masters. THEY control the mood and the energy of the club. They will also notice anything going wrong or right and use their skills to fix the situations. For example; you as a DJ will notice if the bar is slow, a waitress getting groped, or a dancer is too drunk. You have the microphone so use it to get people to the bar, get the waitress out of a compromising position, or get the dancer some crackers. Since everyone in the club has a job to do they may not notice these things but you have your finger on everyone so stand up to the task!

Good luck, I am sure you will get the job!
