    Question Dancing and lotion

Hi everyone Im new to the board and a new dancer as well. It was brought to my attention that your not supposed to wear lotion when you "work the pole" I understand that the lotion gets on the pole and makes it hard to work on but how do u keep your skin from getting ashy. Any suggestions?

This is going to sound TOTALLY weird but I use a homemade olive oil, honey and brown sugar scrub in the shower and I don't have a need for lotion at all. My skin stays super smooth and moisturized and looks awesome BUT because I do it in the shower it's not greasy or slick at all. I love it because my skin is usually so typically dry. Try it, it works for me maybe it'll work for you?

Or, if you shower and moisturize the night before, it should all be absorbed by the time you go to work. As long as you aren't so lubed up that you slime the pole, you ought to be fine.

use aveeno daily moisturizing lotion w/ colloidal oatmeal before work. that stuff really works, and absorbs well. I do pole work, and I swear by it.

That's an awesome idea - not weird at all! It also sounds really good for your skin, apart from making it soft.

    I don't work the pole! I can't!

but the girls at the club usually put lotion on just as long as they don't have to go on stage withing the next 20 minutes.

Just about every dancer I know puts on lotion at the beginning of shift. I know that I do. Unless it's really oily, lotion should be absorbed by the time you put it on and then get dressed, put on makeup, do hair, etc. You might want to be careful that first set, but other than that I don't worry about it at all.

Yep, I use runny honey as showergel as Im on the pole everyday and dont moisterise. It doesnt mess with your skins PH level.

Runny honey? Are you referring to the sugar scrub she makes or is this something else?

Runny honey as opposed to that firm white coloured honey you get. Ya know you get dark brown/orangey runney honey, and, like, off white paste type honey?

I use the runny honey in my scrub, it does wonders for my skin! The olive oil gives my skin this awesome healthy looking dewy sheen where as the brown sugar gently buffs my skin from dead cells and bumps.

Y dont you put on lotion an hour before your shift starts, at home? It saves you "prepping time" and no more slippery pole. I always do this. Also, do as much as you can at home so you can come in, get dressed, minor make up touch ups maybe, and you're ready to go, instead of wasting time in the dressing room.

I'd say a minimum of 2 hours between lotion time and pole time. A lot of girls think they're all good and then I slip off the pole and fall on my ass next set.

I wear lotion every night. I don't put it on at the club, but do so like ediblecrayonz said a few hours before hand.

I'm a big complainer to greasy lotion because it can be dangerous if you have a slip and fall!

Find one that is water based or the doesn't have oil as one of the first 5 ingredients.

When I need deep moisturizing particularly my knees (icky icky.) On my days off or after work I put on a deep moisturizer after I shower.

I agree with everyone above. DO NOT USE OIL BASED MOISTURIZERS. Use water based a few hours before your shift. You're endangering everyone who uses the pole! If you want the super shiny baby oil skin, then you lose your right to use the pole! Hell, even walking is dangerous for the girls after you if you do floor work.
