    Angry hating the job search

I swear I've put in over 10 applications and still have not been hired anywhere! I put in for Petco and Petsmart, Lowes, Kroger (a grocery store), Target, Wal Mart (several stores), and several restaurants and STILL have not been hired! I am so tired of relying on dancing right now because it's sucking money-wise right now. I also need to have a "real" job so I can possibly get a mortgage so I can get a new home.

I don't know what is going on that I cannot get hired. I know the job market is slim but I'm going to places where they have now hiring or help wanted signs and NOTHING! I'm so freaking frustrated it's not even funny anymore. Fast food is my last resort if I absolutely have to. I've done Arby's and Popeyes and those were fun but I just don't want to do it again.

I wonder if the lady I worked for as a groomer for 4 years is badmouthing me but I just don't know. After I quit and they brought up the groomer from the other store that closed, things that didn't happen with me, started happening with her. For example I was supposed to have a washing machine put in years ago and she gets it (no hook ups but they took out the sink to put it in). On top of that she got a key as soon as she came in--I never got a key even when I was supposed to come in at 7:30 Christmas Eve morning. I got there before 7:30 to be let in and my boss was 35 minutes late!

Okay I got off topic and started ranting, I'm sorry. I'm just really freaking frustrated.

have you tried any daycare centers? I'd also try more restaurants. Go everywhere and fill out an application, someone will hire you!

Try applying for government positions. The government is hiring like crazy in a few sectors like social services and green energy development. I have a friend that has been doing temp work for almost 2 years now and finally found a permanent position working in human resources for the state of Washington. She is making $26 and hour and has kick-ass bennies. Oh, and she works all day shifts with every weekend off, plus every holiday off...paid!

Even in good times, it's a full-time job to get a job. The better the job and the older you are, the longer it takes. And now all that is much, much worse. Many people are looking for something, anything to tide them over until times get better -- if they ever do.

10 applications is nothing; you may need to do 100 or more.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

Unfortunately I don't like most kids and I'm not good in the HR department (my dogs are trained better than some peoples kids no offense to anyone). There are some police officer positions open and EMT but I've got a weak stomach. My boyfriend works at a hotel as a night auditor and I know what he goes through so I don't want to do that (especially at a hotel without security). I've got patience but not that kind. I started writing down places to apply at and crossing them off once I do.

What I really want to do is go back to grooming dogs but unfortunately noone is hiring--well hiring me anyway lol. My dream is to open my own shop but my credit is so bad that I wouldn't be able to get the loan I would need to start it up. I know how to train dogs but I cannot teach classes for money while I am a member of our dog training club--quitting the club is not an option. I love animals but most vet offices require that I work Saturdays and I want a 5 day work week. I'd love to be a dog show judge but that's only a weekend gig and I don't have the obedience qualifications yet.

I'll let you all know how it progresses. Arkansas seems to have a decent economy so we'll see.

Since you love dogs, have you thought about hiring out for pet sitting services? I know people here that hire pet sitters for just the day while they are at work. You could also offer to groom and walk the animal while pet sitting, too.

Another job might be yard waste removal. I've seen services offer to pooper scooper a back yard once a week for $25-95 a week. Then they sell the poop to a biofuel manufacturing company. You can make money twice!

It stinks. I've been looking since December 2007 for a fulltime job. I have two degrees BA and MA), lots of experience, computer skills, and I speak Spanish yet nothing yet. I apply to everything and get rejected even for jobs below my qualifications. I've started to apply for retail and telemarketing jobs though I hate those.

^^ Get some advice on resume writing, interviewing, and networking (i.e. finding a hiring manager thus temporarily bypassing HR). Not many people have success with newspaper classifieds anymore.

I've gone to job advisors on resumes and interviewing. The majority of the jobs I apply for are ones I find on sites or people tell me about.

I had thought about the pet sitting service for a while. A girl I worked with when I groomed did that along with being a cashier at our pet store. She got tired of it and people she would sit for would take advantage of her. It is a good idea.

I would do the pooper scooper thing but I don't even pick up my own dogs' poop in my backyard lol! I'm not downing anyone's ideas though. They are helping.

You wouldn't happen to have an AA degree and knowledge of medical terminology, would you?

I'm not sure of its exact location in our cansol, but my friends company has a division there.

Also, if you'd like to start a business, or have entertained that idea.......GO FOR IT. There are plenty of resources online for creating a business plan, and you can check with the SBA. Since you are a lady, you'll have a better chance then most. You can also check for micro loans from companies that specialize in giving them to women. Also, since you mentioned pet sitting, how about a doggie daycare.

^^ You mean procedure and diagnosis coding in an office like - hospital, clinic, insurance company etc.

Medical supply company. Procurement is part of the job.

I can't guarantee a job, but I can let several of the execs know about her.

I can't get a loan because of my credit. I cannot even get a credit card. I'm trying to get a job so I can get a home loan.

I do not want to open a doggie day care. I worked for a former friend who has one as her groomer. It was very hectic. Doggie day cares are hard to run and if you don't know what you are doing, you can have a dog fight and end up with a lawsuit. Although I liked it, when I'm done for the day I want to leave. When I was grooming full time, I could leave after I was done. Since I worked for a specialty pet store someone was there to send the dogs home that were still there after I left. I'd apply at vet's offices but most of them want you to work weekends and all I want is a 9-5.

I do not have an AA nor do I have experience in medical terminology. I know healthcare jobs are booming but I avoid anything medical as I have a horribly weak stomach.

I actually had a job interview with Mexico Chiquito this morning. We'll see what happens. They were hiring 2 people for take out/drive thru and 1 as a server. I should know something by tomorrow.

Believe me, it's not you. There are millions of people in the same position, and dozens to even hundreds of people applying for each job. It's not your qualifications that are the problem, it's simply that you're outnumbered.

I'm supposed to be asleep right now but wanted to update everyone. I didn't get the Mexico Chiquito job. Oh well, better off that way. I did get two calls--one from Petco and one from Petsmart. Petco wanted an interview at 3p on Saturday and I said I'd be there. Petsmart wanted one at 4p on Saturday. I told them I had an interview at 3 and didn't want to be late. the Petsmart lady said we could do it on Sunday at 11a. I told her I could do that but would like to still be able to make it to interview today. She was very upbeat when she told me to just come in whenever I was finished with my interview at 3.

The Petco interview went pretty well. I didn't feel very comfortable there though. Although the people were nice, I just didn't feel comfortable in the store. After that I went to Petsmart and had an awesome interview. We talked for a bit and had me stay around while they groomed. The best part about all that is the Petsmart salon manager gave me a paper for a drug test! When my results come back (they'll be negative--of that I've very sure), they'll have me come in for a grooming test to make sure I'm not all talk. I do wish I had pics of the dogs I've groomed with me. It looks pretty promising though!

A drug test form is a good sign. Good luck.

Since I've been busy and haven't been able to update anyone here's an update. I got the job at Petsmart as a full time groomer! They'll take taxes out of my pay and I'll get health insurance! I've been there 2 weeks and I absolutely love it. My salon manager knows I work at the club and actually knows one of our bartenders. So far so good!

Congrats! I'm glad you were able to locate work... especially something with health insurance.
