    Default Your stripper "idols"

I was curious if anyone else out there has a stripper idol, a lady they really look up to and would love to be like.

Personally, when I was 4 I told my mom I wanted to be a stripper when I grew up. Why? I just saw the 1960's version of Gypsy with Natalie Wood. From then on I have always admired Gypsy Rose Lee. She was creative, classy, and witty; just an amazing woman over all.

There have been a lot of powerful and amazing women in history who started off taking their clothes off for money. Who is your favorite?

The one and only Tempest Storm....my stage name was partially inspired by her. And the late, great Bettie Page.

All of those ladies, along with the other early striptease artists like Sally Rand. Those ladies could dance, and were classy. I really wish burlesque was the standard still.

    Lili St. Cyr!

I found out about her after I picked my stage name, but I still like her a lot anyway. Hmm I think I learned about her when I checked out "Striptease: World's Famous Strip Artists" from Netflix. They go through the history of stripping back in Ye Olden Days.

And I don't know if this girl is actually a stripper, but I like watching her pole dance videos on Youtube.

My stripper Idol was one of the first girls I met dancing. She danced by Chloe at the time, beautiful girl, I learned so much from her. She passed away one year ago this month, bless her soul, let's just say she didn't live a very healthy lifestyle. She was only 19 :[

Other than that, here's my favorite pole video... this chick is awesome nuts

I don't need to drop names but three of mine are members of SW, and probably a good motivator for me being on here. My list is a pretty good size though if you include burlesque performers and people who have been around the block for awhile.

I met my stripper idol when I was nineteen, before I had ever thought of becoming a stripper myself. Her club was across the street from the body piercing shop I worked at, and she would come in, decked out in stripper garb and makeup, and buy navel jewelry when it was slow.

She never talked to me, but I admired her so much. She just seemed to own the whole store and everyone in it.

Ten years later, I worked a shift at that club (it's sort of a dive), just out of curiosity. The manager remembered that stripper, and said she is a nurse in Phoenix now. I think she still occasionally dances. She'll probably never know how I worshipped her.

I didn't really think or know about strippers until the day I became one... so mine are all women that I worked with who, each in her own way, were insanely hot. When I was a new dancer I tried to emulate the things that made me admire them (or lust them), and they get credit for a lot of who I am today.

My 'stripper idol' and unofficial mentor was 'Wendy Whoppers'

arguably, Wendy was able to go from a 'typical' house dancer to a millionaire retirement in the span of about 7 years !

The stripper I've always idolized was one I met in person. Her name was Mindy and she looked like Angie Everhart. Her age was 30 or more, but I really wasn't sure and it didn't really matter because when beautiful is beautiful, you don't really think about age. The girls in the club hated her of course. She really worked out and I felt like her beautiful looks came from hard work in addition to good genes. Guys mouths would fall open when she got on stage. She always wore the same white dress so I guess clothes weren't too important. It seemed like she was tired of dancing because she'd make a lot of money and then pay outrageous tip outs in order to leave early. I heard there was a guy who would bring a TV into the VIP room and just watch TV with her back there. When I first started at the club she was very encouraging to me, so I'd say she was a kind person too. She certainly wasn't threatened by anyone.

I want a regular to pay me to watch TV with him! Well, as long as he's decent and doesn't smell...

I don't get to watch tv much... that would be a nice change!

I agree with Brooke.. I never knew anything about this world until I got in it.. Now I love the confidence of these women. The women listed are great... Gypsy Lee Rose..so sassy and confident.. Bettie Page.. Dita Von Teese is sexy and I never knew of Catherine D'Lish, who originally started the champagne glass show~SOOO beautiful..
I've always watched and admired any dancer who really puts their all into their dance to make it the art that I feel it can be... I love the beauty of dancing and pole performances..Burlesque is amazing.. the tease factor is so intriguing. Pole dancing is my favorite.. When done right it does something to my insides...

This is my favorite video ever.... It pulls me in every time. So beautiful.

AGREED!!! Everytime I watch Leigh Ann Orsi (that's her name- she's actually a former child actress who now teaches pole dancing at Be Spun in SoCal, but I don't think she's ever been a stripper, just an AMAZING dancer. I've never seen someone who not only makes extremely difficult pole tricks look easy, almost like she's completely weightless, also manages to effortlessly exude a sort of languid sensuality in her floor work, and ultimately blends both seamlessly.

Practically all of old hollywood. Some of my all-time favs (burlesque, strippers, performers, actresses, and pinups):

    Sally Rand
    Carol Doda
    Mary Carlisle
    Hind Rostom
    Marion Martin
    Theda Bara
    Gypsy Rose Lee
    Bebe Daniels
    Jayne Mansfield
    Diana Dors
    Barbara Eden

All of them were really skilled in the art of character and performance art whether they were strippers/burlesque stars or not. And I think it all comes down to having the je ne sais quoi and the art of seduction, which they all have.
