    Default liver dextox?

I drink like a fish, and I've recently been reading more and more about how this really effects weight loss (at which I'm making a halfhearted attempt). Not only the calories, but it somehow fucks with your liver and you need to "detoxify" or something... Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had any info on this, both the veracity and any tips you may have. Are vitamins enough? Do I (gasp!) have to stop drinking?!?
    thanks ladies and gents!

Taken from Wikipedia (not the most reliable source but this is true):

it has a wide range of functions, a few of which are detoxification, protein synthesis, and production of biochemicals necessary for digestion. The liver is necessary for survival; a human can only survive up to 24 hours without liver function.[citation needed]

The liver plays a major role in metabolism and has a number of functions in the body, including glycogen storage, decomposition of red blood cells, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and detoxification. The liver is also the largest gland in the human body.

The purpose of the liver is to detoxify your body. Yours isn't doing this since you are drinking- when your liver is trying to get rid of alcohol it can't perform its usual functions. Yes- stop drinking. And do a full body cleanse.

    Two words: Milk Thistle.

    From the wiki:

....it is the seeds of milk thistle that herbalists have used for 2000 years to treat chronic liver disease and protect the liver against toxins.[2][3] Increasing research is being undertaken on the physiological effects, therapeutic properties and possible medical uses of milk thistle. [4]
...For many centuries extracts of milk thistle have been recognized as "liver tonics.".[15] Research into the biological activity of silymarin and its possible medical uses has been conducted in many countries since the 1970s, but the quality of the research has been uneven.[4] Milk thistle has been reported to have protective effects on the liver and to greatly improve its function. It is typically used to treat liver cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis (liver inflammation), toxin-induced liver damage...

Eating cranberries or taking a cranberry supplement helps too.

I eat a handful of dried cranberries every day. I also cut my drinking way down (I might have a 1/2 beer on a shift or a glass of wine. Sometimes no alcohol at all) and drink green tea and water instead.

oooh lovely tips, thanks! I just got some milk thistle, and I'll pick up some cranberries at the grocery store tomorrow. Do you think dried ones work just as well?
