    Default Walking home

Well the club I work at is about 1 mile away from where I live, I don't drive and have currently been getting taxi's back.. this is starting to really annoy me because the prices are such a ripoff for not going very far atall, walking from work, alone seems like a very stupid idea though..doesn't it? And I guess there isnt any other options? ugh transportation is annoying I wish I could fly

How much does it cost? I used to live about a mile from work. It only cost me about 6-7 bucks to get home, including tip.

The taxis I get the meter is already on like £2 when I get in (I dont understand this?) around here (I live in England) So it ends up costing me about 20 quid a week which is £88 a month..and its just money I feel I could spend so much better because I do enjoy walking and its hardly far, I just wouldnt want to get followed or anything. I remember paying 12.50 for a 3 mile taxi ride but I couldnt even say anything to him apart wow this costs alot.

^^ Wow. I'm surprised taxis charge you so much.

I would not walk home though, especially if you're leaving at night. If it's a day shift and you can get home before it gets dark...maybe. But NEVER after dark.

Maybe you could get a ride from another girl, and give her a little gas money? You'll still be paying to get home but it could be a lot less.

Damn, I would personally never walk home alone, no matter the cost for a ride. I mean think about it. You are walking ALONE, at NIGHT, just getting off work at a STRIP CLUB where im sure there are PERVY old guys who think they can take ADVANTAGE of you if you are all alone. And you have a mile walk home all alone that gives any creepy stalkerish guy plenty of time to get or attack you. Esp. if your walking from somewhere that isnt crowded. I would personally want to take as many safety precautions as possible. It is your own personal safety at risk here, you don't want to risk your life or health over a few dollars, do you?

No I dont lol I already pretty knew it was a stupid idea deep down, though it is really busy cause its in the city centre, I just wish it was okay to walk so I could save some money for other things I want!

Sheesh, I thought me taking the bus was bad. The worst part about you living so close and walking is that anyone who followed you that single mile would know where you live. Scary.

On my way to the bus stop last Wednesday, my last customer showed up at the gas station I always go to to get a snack. I made the mistake of telling him I was getting off work soon while we were in VIP. At the gas station, he kept pressuring me to let him give me a ride "in his van." Hell fucking no. I told him I needed to catch my ride and took off running.

I tell ya, creeps have no problem following you. And you think that you're invincible until the day you actually are attacked. Happened to me about a year ago. And the day it actually happens, your entire perception changes.

For years I used to ride my bike home after work. I always took a big baggy jumper, tied my hair up, and wore my helmet. There were parks I could cut through (so cars couldnt follow) and cycling is quicker than walking, so I was out for less time.
    Never once had a problem.

When I first started dancing here in Portland, I lived about maybe a mile and half from the club, I thought it was retarded to get a taxi that far. I mean, I walked TO work home shouldn't be an issue. Esp since I have two six foot plus room mates that I'd bribe with beers at the bar if they came up to walk me home. The club gave me shit for walking and called a cab for me, telling me pretty much that I had no other choice. Apparently two licensed and armed body guards in matching menacing black trench coats isn't enough protection for some people.

    err. /end rant

I agree that walking is more efficient (esp in the UK, gawds the traffic is awful) and more eco-friendly than cabs. But it is dangerous to walk by yourself. Perhaps a room mate or another dancer could walk with you, if you want to walk. I don't know how much I trust cabbies picking me up at the club, either. Again you have a stripper, obviously since she was picked up at the bar, already in the cab which could be driven in whole other direction and no one would ever see her again. No one would think twice about the cabbie, esp if he was someone no one had met before.

While I'm at it, is there a reason everyone automatically jumps to the "You could get raped!" rather than the "You could have all the money you just made stolen!"? Knowing what I know about strippers, being one of them, they are not easily victimised by any one. Hell, I've broken a DJ's jaw because he tried to take advantage of me. I also know that on an average night when a girl walks out of the bar she's carrying roughly $200-500+ on her person in cash. Depending on who sees you leave the bar, there's more than just your body at stake.

It's best to travel, whether by car or foot, with someone you can trust at least as far as you can spit.

Don't walk home from the club. Period.

Talk to your manager and see if he/she can tell you which dancers/staff live near you. They can probably recommend someone for you to carpool with. Then talk to the people he/she recommends and see if you can negotiate a rate that is less than what the cabs charge.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

all taxi's have a minimum charge, even black cabs at late night. £2 is roughly right.

I dont really trust the taxi drivers either haha theyre always pretty weird around here but I guess as long as they are registered (I know there have been cases of men pretending to be cabbies and raping/murdering girls) I also pretend to be on the phone and say like 'I just got in (name of company) cab and Ill be home in 5 minutes'

Yup,My cousin drives a owner driver taxi & it's to cover the depot rent, regardless of how much work they do they still have to pay the depot rent to the firm's owners (£200 a month I think)Well over here they do.

Not to be redundant, but please don't walk home!

I take cabs home almost every day (except when a friend meets me after work and we ride home together). Not only is it likely that someone may wait around outside for you or "accompany" you home, it also makes it easy for people to figure out where(ish) you live for future reference. If you insist on walking home, make sure you never tell anyone at the club this! Tell them your ride is waiting for you down the block, buh bye!

Any amount is worth your safety. Wakling home alone is not safe.

Is there someone reliable with whom you typically work? if you could give half what you pay a cab to another dancer, everyone comes out ahead.

Your body is worth more then money. Someone could recover from getting some money stolen WAY better then recovering from being raped/assaulted/killed.....

Money stolen is the LEAST of your worries

I would definitely suggest not walking home by yourself. For 6 months straight, I walked home from my old club, which was only a distance of about 10 blocks, and had many nights where I was being noticeably, blatantly followed by customers. I never got attacked, but I did get harassed, at times to the point where I was scared out of my mind (I'm a 90 pound, 5'2" girl who looks about 9 years younger than I am). I wouldn't recommend that you walk home; you just never know what kind of creeps are out there. I'm not saying I don't think you can take care of yourself if a dangerous situation would arise; I'm just saying it's better not to have to.

See if you can't get a quick ride with someone leaving at the same time.

Put whatever you spend on a taxi in a jar and put a down payment for some wheelz...
