originally got into it for extra money... my friend was already a stripper so she encouraged me to give it a try. i was saving everything I made from stripping to buy a new car cash. but i have since then quit my regular job so now I strip to pay some of the bills I'm responsible for.

I first wanted to strip when i was 19. I kind of forgot about it and got wrapped up in a more typical career track, earning a BA and MFA in English. Halfway through my PhD program, I realized that I didn't want a life in academia. I want to publish novels. So at 28, I decided to drop out of my program and write what I wanted to write, and I started stripping to finance myself.

For the longest time, I felt like I was in an either/or life--either I can be a starving artist doing what I love, or I can live a comfortable life in a nice house doing soul-sucking corporate work and running my creative well dry. Now I get to be an artist and be comfortable. It's perfect. Until, of course, the day when I can support myself by writing.

When I was a Freshman, I was watching a program on stripping. The girls I was living with and I seriously started considering it because of the money. Most of them figured it's not for them, and not worth it, the other's boyfriend wouldn't let her, and I just kept considering it for two years. Until then I did some art class modeling and some burlesque, so I was comfortable with getting naked and the sexualized stripping part.

My boyfriend is a bouncer at a bar so I hang out with him a lot. One girl that works the local club lives above the bar and comes by to talk when she gets off work. He mentioned where she works, and told her I had been thinking about it, so she took me with her and I did good for a slow/first night.
Lead me not into temptation. I can find it myself.

I got into it for the worst reason possible. lol My ex was living with me, and he was really dragging his feet on moving out and letting us both get on with our lives. I had a roomie who was a stripper back in the early 90's (she was an older lady ...) and when I lost my job she suggested that we both look into stripping.

He threatened to leave if I did it. I was sold. It turned out to be one of the best things I did. I LOVE it. My reasons for staying are different now, but it certainly worked to get him out of my house; and I met my new boyfriend at my club (NOT reccomended - it can be dangerous. But it worked okay for me!) and I've never had a better relationship. I'm ruined for normal jobs now.

I found myself still living with and dependent on my parents, at an age when I should have been well on my own supporting myself.

One day my mother said some of the most hurtful things I have ever heard, and I just snapped. I had been thinking of stripping for years. Every low-wage retail and/or restaurant job I had, I would spend most of my downtime thinking of how things would be different if I had the nerve to strip. Calculating and crunching numbers in my head, thinking of how much better my life would be if I was earning $300+ a night under the table instead of ~$50.

All things happen for a reason; I will NEVER again put up with disrespect just because I'm stuck due to lack of money.

I co-signed on something I shouldn't have (I was young and naive), and ended up having to pay the bill when the primary signer didn't. We went to court on that.

I was super freaked out about how it would affect my credit, so I started dancing to pay the other person's bill even before we went to court. I had the whole thing paid in about a month and a half... but then realized that with the money I was making I could go to any college I wanted to - so I was hooked. Somewhere in between though I totally fell in love with it and here I am.

These are all very interesting stories. It's fun talking about it here but when customers ask you why over and over again it gets pretty annoying.

Anyways, I was a hostess at a restaurant making $8/hr and had to work 30hrs/week. I currently go to a university studying biology so I REALLY didn't have that kind of time to make only $240 a week. I always thought about being a go-go dancer or import modeling but I hated having to drive long distances. Also seeing my bf (hes a waterpolo referee) making $30-50/hr, motivated me to look for a better job.

The next thought was to be a stripper. I typed in 'stripper' on google and read bunch of stuff on it. I came across tuscl.com and read reviews of all the clubs around my area and went on stripperweb to read about the experiences and whatnot. Finally I went to audition and here I am now, happy and content. =] I love the job, the management is great, the girls are all very nice.

I told my friend, "I should strip to pay for school! Plus, it'd be mad fun." and she didn't laugh it off, and instead she said "you should read stripperweb." Finding this community gave me the courage to go for it!

I'd been thinking about it for more than a year. I had been working at an awful job (store) and making little money. One day I got into a chat with one of my former coworkers who told me she was trying out to be a dancer. At the time I actually thought dancing was really performing dance routines (I have a background in dance). For about a year I kept thinking about it, then I told a friend. She told me she was considering it, so we went and bought outfits. We then went to a club that was nearby. The owner had us change into the bikini's (on the radio ads it said bikini dancers. It's now nude), and scheduled us the next day. The next day I was so sure I'd make a ton of money. I only made $7. I learned it wasn't much about dancing, but selling dances. I learned the money was based on what I got tipped on stage and selling dances (and later clubs selling drinks). I stuck with it (and switched clubs many times), and had both good and bad nights.

i've been interested in dancing since i was sixteen or so. before that, i wanted to be a phone sex operator, so i've always had my eye on sexualized industries. i also had some self esteem issues that i felt stripping would help me work out. on new years eve a couple years ago, i met a dancer who was a friend of a friend, and she told me how much money she made and what it actually entailed, and by early february i was dancing. i made $220 my first night and was immediately sold.

over the past two years i have learned so much about myself and my self worth as well as how i deserve to be treated, and resolved all of my self esteem issues, so, goal accomplished there.

i just wish i'd read thought more about saving money/taxes/etc etc because i'd be in much better shape now.

This night is gonna end when we're damn well ready for it to be over, worked all week long, and now the music is playing on our time. Yeah we do what we do to get by, and then we need a release!" - Against Me!, "Thrash Unreal"

Got into it when I was 18. I met a girl that danced, and she thought I would be a good fit at her club, so I went and auditioned. And I fell in love with it right away, lol.

I got the idea from How to Make Love Like a Porn Star originally. Sad, yes? But I figured that since I'd be in school, the hours and money would fit perfectly into my schedule. It was 100% a rational (i.e. non-emotional) decision. Turned out to be the best decision I've ever made.

well, i technically first said "i want to be a stripper" when i was like 10 and say "The Players club" lmao...

but seriously, i had no intention until a guy friend (whose roommates were strippers) just suggested it. I brushed it off but thought more and more about it and researched it for like a week. Then i became obsessed and finally got to do it at a dive bar a week after my 18th birthday.

    And i loved it...

i agree with dominodiva... it's the buzz

I was working for an inventory company making $8.50 per hour, one my co-workers was an older man who also owned a private party business. He hounded me for about 6 months to join his agency saying I had the body, he really needed a redhead, I could make a lot of money, ect.
What finally got me was when he brought his dancer photo portfolio to show me one day.(This was before websites became popular, he would actually meet the guys who wanted to book a bachelor or birthday party face to face and show them the portfolio, they would then ask questions, discuss prices, ect.) The photos were really hot, and he told me the photographer was doing his next shoot for a couple his new dancers, and invited me to come so I could "meet some other newbies" needless to say I ended up getting shot with the other girls and added to the portfolio. I was 19.
Somehow though, i had got it in my mind that while private parties were one thing, I would never be hot enough to work in an actual stripclub. I was not 21 so I had never actually been to one, but I imagined all the girls to be like Pamela Anderson, perfect bodies, huge boobs, zero cellulite, ect.
A few months after I turned 21 one of girls I did private parties with told me she had started working at a club, and that I should come audition. I expressed my concerns and she started laughing her ass off, "just come down, and you'll see what I mean" she said. When I walked in was shocked to see that most of the dancers were older women, and far from perfect, some were downright overweight.
I was hired on the spot by the club owner without an audition. I started the next night and was soon one of the clubs top earners. Since then I have danced at over 25 clubs in 8 different states, and mexico. I really love the freedom of dancing, I have never regretted getting into it.

PS: When custies ask me how or I why I started dancing, i answer innocently "because I like to make lots of money and fast" they usually don't have much of a comeback for this, and it reminds them why I'm there(to make lots of money, and fast, not to tell fools like them my life story dammit!)

My older sister has been a dancer since I was 12, I would watch her bring home tons of money. She bought my implants when I turned 18 as a bribe to try dancing, my first night I made 800 and was hooked. Here I am 9 years later.

Honestly there was always a part of me that wanted to, for as long as I can remember! In highschool a few kids from my graduating class made a senior superlative list that dubbed me "most likely to strip her way through college," and I wasn't offended in the least...I would've lived up to it sooner but I graduated at 16 so I had to wait a couple years!

My problem with it before I started was that I'm not the best dancer, opitome of NO rhythm, but I have a good body, a pretty healthy obsession with sex/innuendo/nudity, and can hold a conversation so I'm 18 now and finally started doing it! And I love it because my family has fallen on hard times and I'm really happy to be able to help my mom who has too many damn kids (6, all younger than me!) and no hubby...Of course I don't tell the custies that part.

Was traveling in Australia and couldn't get any other job in the city. Saw a burlesque show on New Years Eve and that combined with more relaxed Aussie attitude to nudity and sexuality kinda broke the lutheran inhibitions, so I arranged a meeting with one clubs house mom and was hired. I was 24, before that I had never thought about stripping and thought it was demeaning for women. After leaving Australia I got rid of the church and got a pole instead.
