Argh I hate doing this things! I have to interview someone who works with special education students within a school system. I hate going out & asking random people for an interview. I'm very shy when it comes to this kind of things & I hate going up to them & wasting their time. So if you work with special education students within a school system, do you mind answering 21 questions? The questions are not simple & they're very complex & detailed. I'm doing the best I can to avoid going out & intruding people. Just in cases you would like to answer the questions, I pasted them below:
1. What is your job title?
2. What are the specific roles & responsibilities normally assigned within the school for your job? Do you have any additional duties or responsibilities?
3. What qualifications, credentials, & experience do you need for this position?
4. What type of continuing education is required to maintain your position?
5. What is your education, training, & experience in the field of special education?
6. What type of special needs children do you work with? What are their ages?
7. Do you work with individuals on a 1-to-1 basis or in a classroom?
8. A. When you work with children on a 1-to-1 basis:
-Do you conduct psychological testing or any kind of assessment? If so, what are some of the commonly administered tests or assessments that you use?
-How are these children referred for testing or assessment?
-How often do you test or assess the same children & why?
-Do you test or assess children from diverse backgrounds?
-What are the + & - outcomes of testing or assessing children from diverse backgrounds?
-Do you support the idea of multidimensional assessment for children? Why or why not?
-Do you provide individual or group counseling or therapy?
B. In the classroom:
-Are you in the classroom full-time or part-time? If part-time, do you follow a regular schedule or only visit a classroom when required?
-Do you provide consultation services to other professionals? If so, describe which services & who they are provided to.
-Do you provide suggestions or recommendations to other staff? If so, how are you suggestions or recommendations received?
-If teaching, do you use adaptive curriculum & materials? Why or why not? If so, describe some of the adaptive curriculum & materials you use.
9. Do you collaborate with other specialists, such as psychologists, therapists, counselors, social workers, teachers, aides, etc. & in what capacity?
10. Does your school use a team approach in working with children with exceptionalities? If so, what are the advantages & disadvantages to a team approach? What you think makes a team approach work successfully?
11. Are you involved in IEP meetings? If so, in what capacity?
12. Briefly describe how IEP meetings are conducted at your school & the degree of parental involvement & participation.
13. What are your views regarding the NCLB Act? Does your school support this Act & to what degree?
14. How are serious behavior problems handled at your school? Are you directly involved in handling serious behavior problems?
15. Are you involved in crsis intervention? Can you name some incidents that have occurred & how they were handled? Can you offer some suggestions to someone new to the field of special education how they can prepare themselves to handle such situations?
16. How & in what capacity do you work with the parents of the exceptional children you work with?
17. What would you suggest are appropriate guidelines to establish an effective partnership with parents?
18. What can professionals in special education do to alleviate the stress they experience in their job or role? What do you do to prevent “burnout”?
19. What is your favorite aspect of your job? What is your least favorite?
20. If you had to choose a career again, would you choose to be in special education? Would you choose the same exceptionality?
22. What suggestions or advice would you offer to someone new to the field of special education or to someone contemplating a career in the field?
