    Thumbs up Anyone pole dance???

I've been contemplating on getting a pole for a while now and am finally getting one soon! I figured that the pros significantlly outweight the cons.

Anyway, I'm not in the greatest shape. I'm not overweight, but I do have to say that I am not that strong. I was wondering if anyone out there has any tips for me in terms of diet or exercise that will help me build strength? Anything I need to stay away from? I would like to be as good as some of the girls I've seen on youtube... ie aletheaustin... Here's her link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-3h-s9wy94. Another one would be Joy and here is also her link... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-NrhuphZGg. These girls are PHENOMONAL!!! I know it's wishful thinking, but I would LOVE to be as good as them. Tried to email them and asked them the same question, but they wont return a response. I'm not surprised if they have tons of mail to view..lol.

Clearly these girls have awesome muscle tone and incredible strength. Can any advanced pole dancers give me some tips???

I Havent done it in a LONG time i mean years. but working on ur upper body stregth is big must do since you have to pull ur self up for the starter steps like climbing. chin ups and push ups. also working on your theighs is something you should do lunges help if you go to the gym leg presses and leg curls. as long as you can pull ur self up (arms) and hold on (legs) you can do alot of the basics. for the more intracite stuff u shold work on your abs and core muscles. but if you start out small you ended up working your abs anyways from the movements. ok im done this post is like a small book

This woman's instructional DVD is amazing for beginners. She really makes a point to teach you a good fundamental base of skills, and not just fancy tricks. You can totally tell she made this DVD with new strippers in mind

    I highly recommend it

^^^ I've never seen those programs, but I've heard it's a good program.

Don't try just learning on your own, you can hurt yourself through improper repetitive movements like gripping the pole wrong. There are some good DVDs on the market, and a ton of bad ones. The same thing goes for local pole studios. Ask who the instructors have been trained by, what their background is and if they have any certifications.

Alena Downs has some great information and resources including classes online. Fawnia & Jamilla both have some great DVDs... although Jamilla's are more up to date.

My other big suggestion is get a spotter!

Be sure to start working your arm muscles by lifting weights. If you get ready to climb the pole and find it is still too difficult, I would suggest that you take aerial fabric classes so you can build your upper arm muscles more.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Yup, they do ROCK!! These girls have given me inspiration to do pole work. At my club, there is only 2 girls that do pole work. Not nearly as good as Alethea and Joy, but they get alot of attention and make good tips on stage because of it. I wanted to increase my confidence by doing pole work instead of drinking. I just don't have the desire to drink anymore. Drinking for some reason gives me liquid courage and a false sense of confidence. So you see there are plenty of good reasons for me to want to work the pole.

I started out with the resistence cables to work on upper body strength. I'm going to do 200 crunches every other day to strengthen my abdominal muscles. I can understand why you would need good core muscles. I also changed my diet and eating more protein to build muscle.

    Thanks for the replies!!!!
