    Default Cervical Cancer

Wasn't sure where to put this, so if it gets moved, I understand.

It's not me that has it, but a really good friend of ours. She is a former dancer and a mom of 2 beautiful girls. On March 31st, she is having a hysterectomy due to cervical cancer. I'm not sure they are taking her tubes and ovaries like they do most times from what I understand. I'm not sure if she has to go through chemo or radiation or anything like that yet, I hope not.

What do you do? What do you say?

I've offered to take care of the girls for her but her mom and sisters are going to do that. What else can I do?

I made the comment to her that at least she doesn't have to run to the store at 3 am for pads and tampons after this. She found it funny but later on I wish I hadn't said it. She had her tubes tied years ago, so she wasn't planning on having more kids.

Every year like clock work, she had her pap smear, and nothing was found until now.

I'm guessing what I am trying to say is I hope all you girls get checked like you should every year. I just don't know how to process all of this.

The best thing you can do is just be an open ear for her. Listen when she needs to talk.
I've seen how hard a surgery like that can be,my mother had one at the age of 32..
I can't stress enough how important pap smears are! I get to aggravated when my friend refuses to go see a Dr. for a pap smear. She's 19,sexually active and has never been to the Gyno.
At 16 or 17,I had precancerous cell growth! So you're never too young to get checked out!
But just be a friend, and if she does need something, she'll come to you
Sounds like you're a really good friend, your friend is lucky
    I is a mommy.
