Well I've had a death in my 'family'. Ebe (prounced E - Bee) my wife's Electus has died this morning at the age of 15.
For those of you who don't know what an electus is, it's an exotic bird about the size of an African Grey.
My wife had raised her from an egg. She bought the egg, bought an incubator, and hached the egg. When Ebe hached, my wife was the first thing that she saw, so she imprinted on my wife. Needless to say my wife and I are devastated. We have so many memories of the "nurotic feather duster". We called her nurotic because she picked her feathers. She diddn't have a feather on her body except for her head, the tip of her wings and the tip of her tail because she couldn't reach them. The rest she plucked out herself.
One of my favorite memories would have to be whenever my wife would take her out of her cage, she would let Ebe run around in the kitchen. My wife would sit cross-legged on the floor and tap her nails on the floor. Tap, tap, tap. Then Ebe would run up to her hand and with her beak respond by tapping on the floor. Tap, tap, tap. No matter how many times my wife would tap the floor, Ebe would tap the same number of times in responce. She also had a favorite red ball that she would chase across the floor as well.
Ebe, I know that whever you are now, you are soaring like an eagle and looking as beautiful as ever. You are already being missed.![]()
