I recently purchased a Polar Heart Rate monitor. Does anyone know how accurate the calorie counter is on here? I figure that it's pretty accurate considering that you are supposed to enter your height, weight, and gender.

As the body adapts to the stress put on it through exercise, it burns calories at a different rate than it did before.. so I'd say calorie counters have to be inaccurate at a certain point. It has to do more with your muscle mass and density, I think.
you're def right about the muscle mass part, but i'm pretty sure the cal counter bases its readings also off of one's heart rate...meaning that when the body adapts, the heart rate is less and the device adjusts the calorie counter...at least i hope this is the case!

I don't think there is any machine that can tell you exactly what you are burning. If you want to have an idea though of how much of a difference working is making out to your body though you could call around to find a doctor who can test your Resting Metabolic Rate. That will give you a better idea of what you are burning just doing nothing and you can see the numbers increase/decrease with how in shape you are.
Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Or you could just Google BMR and put in your stats. Adjust accordingly for your activity level. Some do this for you.
