Curious!
I searched the forums and didn't find much. Not looking for extreme whitening, but something overall effective with lightening the skin by a few shades?
I'd like to hear good or bad experiences...

There was one that I bought by DDR (Doctors Dermatologic Formula) from Sephora. I only used it for about a week before I heard that the active ingredient Hydroquinone is known to cause cancer. I returned it after that- so check whatever u decide on and steer clear of this ingredient.

i heard the same thing from the other forums i searched.
But there are a few other ingrediants i read about: ie. sepiwhite, tretinoin, etc.
Just wanna know if anyone had any experiences with anything

You're too beautiful to whiten your skin!

^^I would love to think that. But i think part of the reason i've been getting turned down so much is because my skin has gotten darker. I used to be a little lighter.
I don't want to go mj dramatic. lol. But just a lil lighter couldn't hurt. :/
and i know this can't be SOOO outrageous. there has to be some girls out there who has a simple lightening regime.

I have the complete opposite problem,I'm too pasty white. haha.
I don't know much about skin lighteners, but it seems like something you should do some good research on before using..
Good luuuck!

there is nothing that will work that isn't dangerous except lemon juice and it won't knock off several shades.
if you have tanned darker, you pretty much have to stay indoors until your body reverts.
I haven't used any of these, since I glow in the dark already, but it's from an old goth page I used to frequent:
All about lighting your skin--mostly healthy ways--using home ingredients.
Ive used hydroquinone on areas of skin discolouration my elbows, knees- they were shades darker than the rest of me. I started with Fair and White (no bad smell). That worked a bit but hydroquinone 4% which you can get over the counter really worked. Its $15 for small tube so only good for a small area. This works esp if you use retin A before you start the cream. I have known ppl to lighten the whole body but you need stronger than 2% and I think they get it under the counter from certain beauty shops. I now find that I make more money when I am way darker and I make sure I wear clothes and make up that really compliment my dark skin ie. lots of gold eyeshadow. We all go through phases where we gets loads of no's and its prob nothing to do with your colour. I think you look good so I wouldnt worry!

Please don't lighten ur skin. Especially not just to get hired at a strip club.

there was a whole discussion about tans vs. skin lightening. I don't think there is a difference.
I did think skin lightening was bad at first, but it was because i thought girls did it to look more like white women, not to just look more appealing.
tanning and lightening seem fine to me.....as long as either one doesn't get out of hand. I knew a girl who danced and tanned excessively to make herself look black. I don't think anyone should lighten or darken their skin to LOOK like another color. But if it is something to improve your own, or further "beautify" your own to give yourself more appeal, i don't think there is anything wrong with that.
I would like to look a little bit more..."exotic"
I just find it funny that as near-albino, I desperately want my skin to be darker, and you want your skin lighter.
Oh the grass on the other side...

Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

^^lol.
We aren't really so different. Think about it. both colors are trying to meet the median.
You want to be tan (going from being light) and i want to be tan (going from being dark skinned).
The middle seems to be the most attractive. That exotic, mixed look. (I hope the world is mixed one day anyone. everyone will be a buttercream color and race won't even matter haha)

Any heard about or tried this product? It contains something called "Sepiwhite" which is said to whiten and be safer than HQ

I have said the same thing for years. Not to have all one skin color, but to eliminate racism.
As for the buttercream color being more exotic, I don't think it's any more exotic than any other skin color. However, I do think there are advantages and disadvantages to extreme skin tones. For me obviously I don't consider blue veins showing through my skin exotic unless we are thinking the Goth/Vampire look is exotic... but I personally don't think it is.
I've seen beautiful people with skin tones of both extremes. I don't know that I would really change my skin tone to get hired at a club (too much up keep), but I would do it to hide things that I consider personal flaws.

I just want to go back to the color i once was. Not too much lighter. And i could always stop doing whatever i'm doing and sun bathe if i really don't like the color.
I think i'm gonna stick with a natural remedy that someone mentioned. Scrubbing with lemon juice in the shower. I may try an HQ product or sepiwhite. But only for my dark areas (knees and elbows)
I would just like to have an even (and just a tiny bit lighter) skin tone.

Girl, say that again.
But that is exactly what you're doing. You're trying to lighten yourself up to hopefully be more accepted as a lighter toned semi-mixed chick.
Says who? That's what makes everyone so beautiful. For loving yourself the way you are. We (especially WOC) range in ivory to the deepest shades of ebony. You are beautiful!![]()

If you are looking for something to lighten your knees, under arms, elbows, bikini area and stop hairbumps, the skin tight works magic! Go to www.skintight.com. YOu can also buy it from Sephora or some salons.
Make Your Life Beautiful!
I don't think that Ms. Mia wanting to lighten her skin is any worse than the women who spend god knows how many hours in the sun getting cancer trying to look darker. Why is it acceptable for a white woman to want to be darker than a black woman to want to be lighter?
After all, her skin tone doesn't make her who she is. It's just her appearance.

Listen, as a white woman you, or others may feel just as that. But, for me, as a WOC this saddens me to know end. You can be white, go tan..but then it will begin to take you back to your normal shade whenever you decide to stop. But, for a WOC When you bleach your skin, you are changing it! It won't transition back over time.
Secondly, it's sad that there are WOC who feel that the lighter your skin = how much more beautiful you are. It should not dictate that at all. Like I said in my first posting, WOC come from the lightest of ivory to the deepest shades of Ebony. It's a beautiful spectrum of colors that we should be appreciating not wanting to tear it down and cast it as something less attractive.

I understand fully where you are coming from ck. But i'm letting you know, that i am comfortable being a black woman. I love my color. I would never want to be white.
But the industry we are all in wants what it wants. It wants me to have straight hair, and be light skin. Like i said, I'm not trying to DRASTICALLY change my color, because i would never completely change what i look like for someone else. I'm not going from black to white. I just want to be a shade or two lighter so that i can appeal to more clubs. As long as i know my roots and i know what it means to be a black woman, there is nothing wrong with lightening it up.
And from what i read, it isn't a permanent thing. Your body still produces the melanin in your skin, and if i stop doing whatever i'm doing and go out in the sun, my skin will be back to the way it was. So it is sorta like tanning
Mia,
Bleaching with natural or OTC products is a temporary thing. If you wish to return to your darker hue all you would need to do is expose your skin to sunlight and eventually it would return to its darker shade.
That being said you should make sure that you use a good sunscreen or sunblock to prevent your skin from becoming darker from the sun. Limit your sun exposure, wear protective clothing, etc.
To lighten and brighten your skin you can do some natural things. They are as follows:
* Limit sun exposure and wear sunscreen
* Take Vitamin C or Vitamin A supplements
* Use Retin-A
* Apply topical serums containing Vitamin C and/or Vitamin A
* Get AHA, BHA, or Enzyme Peels
* Use skin care products containing AHA, BHA, and/or fruit enzymes
* Use skin care products containing bear berry, kojic acid, licorice, and or lemon extracts
* Use products containing Shea Butter and or Cocoa Butter
These are just a few of the things you can do. There are soooooo many more. PM me if you have any questions.
