    Mind Blowing Car Insurance

Hi girls! I'm about to get my first car, a 2005 VW Jetta with about 100K miles on it. It's a gift from a friend - an actual friend, not a sugardaddy-type person.

Where does everyone get their car insurance from? I'm in school but I don't have any family so it'll be an individual policy, and I'm just looking for something cheap that'll cover me for major things. I'm 22 and I've had my license for over a year so I'm hoping that'll help lower my rates. I have good credit and no accidents/tickets etc.

Where do you guys go for yours? Did they give you a good deal?

    Thanks!

I've used Allstate for the past 7 years. I get liability only (my car's an old 1992 Acura) and I pay about $87/month. Also, I get discounts because I pay for six months at a time, rather than on a month-by-month basis. That way, I save the monthly convenience surcharge, and also get the "good customer" discount.

i am with a small company. not sure if they're in your area. no offense but since this is a public forum, i'd rather not post.

anyways, i pay for the year, so i save at least $100 (if not more). i would get better than min coverage, but that's just me- even though i drive an older car.

On my daily driver account (Progressive), I have full coverage with better then min coverage and only pay $660ish/6mo. for my first car on the policy.

I'm with Geico, and with the exception of their weird cracked windshield policy for rock chips etc I am very happy with them and I've never found a better rate.

FYI - Auto insurance is regulated at the state level. To effectively answer who the best provider is would likely require knowing what state you live in. Of course, it is perfectly understandable if you don't want to disclose that.

Some companies offer different productl lines in different states due to the local requirements of the state. So, while Allstate might be a good choice in one state, they may not be the best in another.

Best of luck with your new wheels!

Do you have an address in VA? Is the car registered in your name?

I'm not from SC, so unfortunately I don't have any first had experience.

However, you may find this site helpful...

    http://www.doi.sc.gov/consumer/market.htm

This is the site for the SC Department of Insurance, and it will allow you to look up which companies provide auto insurance in the state, their market share and most importantly, the companies complain summaries.

    Best of luck!

... Oh and another suggestion that has worked for me is to purchase insurance through AAA. They represent different auto insurers, and usually do a good job of placing you with the right company to fit your needs.

Lastly, don't forget that if you have renter's insurance or home owner'c coverage, you may be able to leverage that with your auto insurance to get a lower rate on both.

    Best of luck!

Progressive. I used to have a really good deal through State Farm Ins, but my liscence got suspended when I was 19, so they dropped me. I'm not sure what a good price is now, but I pay about $900 for 6 months. I think that I used to only pay about $83/month w/State Farm, but that might also have been bc my parents bought their ins through them, too.
