    Question can i even dance???

i have four months experience now. but i went into my new club the other day and saw the girl up there who obviously had experience. she was liek not even concerned with anyone in there. didnt even look at anyone (not sure i liek that part though). but didnt miss a beat he body just FLOWED with the music. i can sense i am tense since i took a break for a whiel and havent danced and im psyching myself about amateur night this thursday. ive alwys got comps about how i move with the music...but she was like REALY REALLY good. even my bf said he liked how she never missed a beat. but hes never seen me dance...always scared to dance in front of him.
    anyway...
    1) how do i stay calm when i feel the pressure and people staring at me?
    2) how do i relax and jsut move with the music?
    3) how do you jsut feel sexy up on stage?

focus on one instrument or (better yet) the bass and move your body in time with it. :-)

I have gotten good about predicting how the song is played like when my DJ decides to throw some crazy, random crap out there I'll "look busy" to feel of it for the first few seconds and from then on out it's usually pretty easy to follow the bass and instruments or predict how the rest of the song is played out.

Thats how I do it. But, DON'T ignore your audience, you HAVE to "multi-task" move those hips, focus on crowd, smile, swing...

you'll get it, I've been dancing for about a year now and it gets better and better... :-)

ive said this a million time on this site, but it was pushed into my head so many times i figure its worth passing on. anyways, make sure you are moving slow, I started with a background in hip hop and i was used to moving fast. When i got on stage it felt painstakingly slow to me, but everyone said that it looked better when i focused on moving slow. I too took a break for over a year and i am going back and that is one thing I am focusing so much on because its one noticeable thing you can do to make yourself look better. I have a mjaor fear of trying to bend over or something and falling, but i try to not focus on my thought when im out there, i just try to go into a zone where i think about the customers and my movements, not falling.

My biggest help when I first started dancing was acting. Everyone was expecting me to be a sexy stripper, so I put it in my head. What would a sexy stripper who makes lots of money act like? She would be confident for sure. She would move like this (and I moved that way..). I acted the part and I became the sexy stripper. I didn't feel I WAS the dancer, I felt I was playing one on TV.. or, rather, on stage. LOL

First rule of stripping- guys wanna see body parts. Remember, usually only a girl will notice how good or bad at dancing you are, and most times they don't care either. And listen to the advice above- if you move slow, you'll look good even if you can't find the beat to save your life. Until I started bellydancing I couldn't find beats unless it was blatantly obvious, but noone could tell because I moved slow and smooth.

Dance to music that you really, really love. When I do that, it's easy to forget about the custies, cause I'm just up there having fun.
