Question How long did it take you? (belly question)

First, this question is directed towards ladies who had to lose "that last #n lbs." mainly in the form of excess belly fat... because I am not really overweight and I'm in shape. So I need relevant advice.

I have about 2 inches to lose off of my belly until I'm ready to start stripping. I don't care about having a super flat stomach, but I don't think rolls look very attractive on the pole.

How long did it take you to lose your belly and how did you do it? I know I have to drop my body fat percentage for this to happen, so I've been strength training 4-5 days/week and cardio 3-4 days/week. I'm also eating with a calorie deficit and drinking a lot of water. I'm just not seeing results on my stomach even though my legs and arms are definitely experiencing fat loss. (No more tricep jiggle. yay) My hourglass shape and booty are still there which is AWESOME, I just want to get rid of my belly and get out there and shake my moneymaker already.

p.s. don't say anything about crunches or else my brain will explode.

actually i wouldnt recommend crunches at all that takes forever. i alwys fluctuate between weights what i do is drink TONS of water. Dance a lot by yourself, it gets your heart going as well as get you ready. avoid lots of carbs and dairy as well as sweets. if your really hungry but you just ate it seems substitute with a couple glasses of water...it will fill you right up!! Walking is good too, a long peaceful walk doesnt have to be viewed as a workout either. some are agaisnt this but i notice when i took laxatives i literally lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks. and obviously its taking whats inside of your stomache out, so it shrinks it. I wouldnt recommend for long term however, or using anything illegal. detoxes and cleanses could do just the same or cleansing teas or laxative teas (which are basically the same thing)...i hope i helped atleast a little

Thanks for your advice!! I think the water and avoiding extra carbs and sweets could really help me.. those are my weakness. :p Maybe I could exercise more but I'm afraid of overtraining (which would really kill my efforts).

Just keep in mind that the body loses fat like an onion. It comes off evenly in sheets, first from within your muscles (the fastest, most available fuel), then from just outside them (the 'fat layer'), then from subcutaneous stores (the belly, saddlebags, butt, backs of thighs). So the places that have the least amount of fat will see results first (usually the upper body), and the places that have the most fat (like the belly) will take the longest to see results.

Think of taking paper towels off the roll, one sheet at a time. When you first start, one paper towel doesn't make much of a difference. But the closer you get to the cardboard at the center, the more you see a difference from one sheet to the next. The same process works with fat loss.

You already sound like you're doing exactly what you should be doing, and getting results--so keep doing it! You will eventually get the results you want.

If you'd like a ballpark of how long it'll take, you should get your body fat measured with calipers. Aim for half a pound to a pound of fat loss per week (if you don't have much weight to lose, aim for a half-pound, because your body won't fight as hard to retain it). You'll be able to calculate how many weeks it'll take to get to your goal percentage, and measure your progress to make sure you stay on track.

that was a very interesting metaphor, aviendha--i like the paper towel image!

I have to say, also, that the best way I've found to get a toned body is stripping. Seriously. No workout has ever come close to touching it. And I only work 2 shifts a week. It's ridiculous how good my body has become (well--to me! there's a bunch of girls way hotter than i am, but this is my personal best body of my life).

So, I'd say, get your weight to the point where you feel comfortable stripping, and then let the rigors of the job take you from there.

Thank you all for your thoughts! Especially aviendha! I didn't realize that's how the body loses fat. I will stick to it! I'm just wondering if this is going to take months or months or just weeks... I hope to be ready by June or July!

Try eliminating known bloat foods from your diet. My abs have always been my trouble area, and I didn't know a lot of my pooch was bloat until I changed what I was eating. Eliminating wheat did it for me. Dairy is a common culprit too.

Also, try shooting for a 30% fat/40% carb/30% protein ratio in your calories. All that fat and protein keeps you from getting hungry, and I personally find a lower carb ratio helps me blast fat off a lot faster. Oh and carbs make you retain water, which can make you bloat too.

Just an FYI that crunches and sit ups build up muscle in the abs... which isn't going to help you in terms of losing inches since you would just be adding muscle under fat. Stick to the water, dieting, and cardio and you'll lose the excess fat from all over as stated above.

So what would an already skinny person have to do if they wanted to lose belly fat but not really lose alot of weight?

Scarlet: I hope it's all bloat. I will experiment with your suggestions!

Kylea: Thanks for the info. I'm aware, which is why I said my brain would explode. lol Too often people suggest more crunches to "tone" the stomach! Drives me nuts!

Thank you both for your thoughts!

If it is bloat, you can lose up to 5 pounds just by eliminating salt from your diet. I tried this once- it really does make a difference!
I love salt, though, so I started eating it again, whoops!

all the best - I am sure you're a hottie!

Thanks chica I love salt, too.. I was raised in a house where we put salt on practically everything so it's hard to break that habit! haha

Sounds like I need to toughen up and really evaluate my diet.. I'll keep you ladies updated!

oooh, I thought a fellow salt-lover might be interested in this: tarragon is sometimes used as a salt substitute in marinades and salad dressings, although I did also read in that same article that it tastes like licorice, so I am confused.

5-10 minutes of daily sunlight gets you your Vitamin D. If you go out in the early morning or later afternoon, the sun is not as bright and you aren't as likely to burn, tan or cause skin damage. Aside from that, Vitamin D and Calcium supplements are CHEAP!

Dark leafy greens like spinach, broccoli and kale have loads of calcium and your body actually absorbs it easier that way than from dairy. So load up on the salads and don't worry about the lack of cheese. Also, it takes quite awhile to develop rickets or osteoprosis if you have an otherwise healthy diet.

Be sure to take a multi-vitamin and you'll be fine.
