    Default Measurements and exercise

Girls come in all shapes and sizes! I'm tired of seeing 5 foot, 95 lb girls, where is all the diversity?

I've always been really self-conscious about my body and the way it responds to exercise. My legs really bulk up if I do cardio or running, but I want to lose the butt/thigh flab! I do situps like crazy but can't lose the stomach flab! Share your info! I think it would help out a lot to see that not everyone looks like a goddess, we all have things about our body that piss us off. If you have suggestions for other ladies, leave it!

    Problem areas: thighs/stomach

    Exercise of choice: yoga/pilates

    Measurements: 38-30-39

    Height: 5'9"

    Weight: 160lbs

Both of you probably need to just focus on overall fat loss. The "tone" you're looking for comes from losing fat around the muscles so they are more noticeable. Strength training with HEAVY weights, cardio a few times a week, calorie deficit when it comes to eating, and drinking enough water and being generally healthy should get you there in time. Lexi, congrats on that weight loss. That is an awesome accomplishment.

Here's my info, not really looking for advice but hopefully I can come back here and update over time and tell you if I'm progressing ?

    Measurements: 36 - 28 - 42
Areas I'm concerned with: Waist, belly, upper back thighs
    Height: 5 ft 5 in
    Weight: 140-150 lbs, I think. I don't weigh myself.
Exercise of choice: circuit strength training 4-5 days/week and cardio 3-4 days/week
Goal: keep the booty and lose the belly.

    Height 5'4"
    Weight 135

    Measurements 37-26-37

My problem areas are my thighs (they've always just been big) and my tummy (I have some loose skin from my pregnancy)

I lift weights, rarely do cardio, and eat clean.

My suggestion to anybody would be don't try to spot reduce. If you have a flabby area, you can't just lose weight there, you have to lose it overall and often the area you're having a problem with is simply the last part of your body that holds onto weight. So, try to reduce your bodyfat overall instead of just in one area.

Im not weighing myself until June, but my measurements were (on Monday when Aunt Irma was making me bloated)
    bust 39
    waist 37
    hip 44
    thigh 24
My goals (and my best (healthy) measurements) were
    bust 38
    waist 32
    hip 39
    thigh 19

Im 5'11" and VERY untoned right now (joining the gym tomorrow, now we have finally moved into a HOUSE, rather than a backpackers hostel) so Im not weighing, incase it triggers me again.
My goal is to shift this tummy fat (not healthy) and generaly tone all over.

Good luck everyone! This is exciting.

VaVa - I would increase your weights to the point where you are at muscle fatigue at 12 reps... meaning you literally can't pull a 13th rep. From what I've read and experienced you'll see faster results in muscle strength and fat loss when you do this as opposed to using lighter weights and more reps. Don't worry about getting too big. I've been doing this for upper and lower body now and I haven't seen my muscles get bigger but the flab is seriously disappearing. Also to answer your question you do want to feel some muscle soreness the day after weight training. This is the time of repair. If you don't feel it, you probably didn't work them down hard enough to be repaired, which means you're not gaining muscle strength. And stick to HIIT!

    Heres goes;
    I'm currently 36-36-44 and i am 5ft7
I have long lean legs my prob areas are my hips,i have mega love handles and my gut, i totally have a budda belly My arms arent too bad they just need toning and hopefully as i lose weight i will lose my double chin lol
My goal is to be slimmer for good. I always say im on a big health kick but i stop after a week or 2. I have lost 12 pounds at one point but cos my weight loss seemed to stop i gave in and now ive gained that back and more
I am going to the Download festival in june and as a lot of old school bands are playin, im wanting to dress old school ie cut offs vest and cowboy boots, so i need to look HOT!

My sister just got a WiiFit and i have been getting into the jogging on there. I have been doing just over 30 mins worth of cardio every other day, i also want to get back into swimming to tone up.
I have cut out a lot of the crap i eat, if i do want it i will only eat half. My main prob however is portion control and not wantin to waste food so im eating it all. Now i take more time to eat and fill up on veggies rather than carbs and when i start to feel full i stop...rather than have a rest and start again.

I have lost 4lbs already, i will post my weight when i feel more comfortable

    Good luck everyone!

I workout 7 days a week for an hour each day
I am on my last few days of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (LOVE IT!!)
I have kickboxing class twice a week

Hey girls, sounds great so far, thanks for responding! I'm still the tallest in the thread by 4 inches but I feel better that girls are opening up about their strong/weak points.

I was doing some online research and it seems that a figure called the BMI (body mass index) is also really important when considering if you are in need of weight loss. Less than 18.5 is underweight, 18.5-24.9 is normal, 25-29.9 is overweight and 30 or greater is obese.

The average BMI for the height/weights posted so far is 24.7 which is on the upper end, but everyone so far sounds committed to being healthier.

Check out this website and see where you stand, because while 120 might be chunky on a girl thats 5 foot, but a girl my height would look anorexic. Find the BMI that works for you!

Problem area for me is my thighs. I hate them. And my triceps. I look like I am about to take flight.

    Bust: 34A
    Waist: 26in
    Hip: 36in

    Height: 5'8" and change
    Weight: 135lbs.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but I want to get down to my modeling weight again, which is 125. So far as working out, I am totally lost. Never done it (except for belly dancing and walking when I lived in SF) but I have a gym accessible to me. I wish I could walk outside but it gets so damn hot in Vegas.

I am a vegetarian, dont drink milk, dont eat any junk food (no taste for sweet things) and my one caveat is booze. Me and the guy I am seeing hella booze it up and party (he is a bigger party animal than I am) when we see eachother (about 2x a month), and have crappy "food schedules" as he calls it. And even if I am not drunk everyday, admittedly I do drink around 2-3 drinks every day (even when he is not in town), especially since I am under a lot of stress.

If I could kick the booze I think I'd be good. I flipped out the day after St Pats. He and I EACH drank aroun 3,000 calories getting boozed up all day. EPIC FAIL.

Oh and I am the laziest person ever. I would get to the gym, if I could just find the damn motivation and if I had a tolerance for boredom and sweat.

Could I suggest circuit interval training? Give it 20 minutes of serious effort and by the time you break a sweat you can remind yourself you only have 15 minutes to go also it would help against boredom because you're constantly changing your movements. better than repetitive cardio!

I actually hear BMI arent the best way to look at your weight. . Just because you weigh a lot doesnt always mean you are overweight, you could be really muscular or even a body builder and your weight will be a lot higher then those will little muscles

I'm 5'5". When I started dancing, I weighed 160-165 and my measurements were something like 38-30-41. I always looked bloated and chubby. Now I weigh 145-150 and they're 37-28-39 and I look thick rather than chubby. The few inches I've lost have really made a difference, but I want to get rid of the remaining belly pooch and slim my thighs. I'd love to get back to 130 and 36-25-37.

What's funny is that I've been all these weights while dancing, and my money has never really changed! At my highest I had no confidence about my body but I felt awesome about my hustling. Has anyone else noticed this?

I made more money when I was kind of fat, how screwed up is that? I think it was because I fit the whole average soccer mom turned bad image.

Now that I'm leaner I have way more competition and it's with girls quite a bit younger than me. Makes it harder to stand out.

This is the heaviest I've ever been (which I guess is a good thing), but I'd like to lose a few inches off my waist and tone up. I need to force myself to eat better and exercise, and stop eating junk when I'm depressed. I'm a lazy slacker when it comes to stuff like this... :/

I've always just been skinny- for years I was around 5'8 and 98 pounds. People always asked me if I was anorexic and said I should be on those feed the children commercials....

I've only gained the extra 25 pounds or so in the last three years, and people have finally stopped with the anorexic comments. Although kinda on the skinny side, I'm wayyyy lazy and out of shape because of it. Healthy, just a bit out of shape.

I run 3mi 3-4x's a week. I do free weight lifting, crunches, and lunges. I also train on stairs on a reg basis to increase endurance and lung capacity. I eat all organic and tofu, and no red meat but no matter what I do I can not seem to get my butt as toned as I would like. I'm very happy with the rest of my body, I just hate my butt.

Yay, Im back on the wagon!
I went to a bodypump class and then a body balance class last night. It reminded me how good I feel when I work out. My goal is to get back to lifting decent weights again. I cant focus too much on body weight, since I had(have?) an eating Disorder. I know that Im 25kg over my 'back to hospital' weight, but I want to get down to 80 kg (160lb?) with a decent amount of muscle mass.
Also body fat is much better than BMI, as when I was in hospital, my BMI was 14, when I was released it was 20 and when I was the healthiest Ive ever been it was 25 (I used to compete in cross country running, gymnastics and weight lift) and my body fat was nice and low, even though I was technically overweight.

Yeah BMI is bullshit. At my sexiest body tight and toned I still fall in "overweight" just because of the way I am built and shaped. I know that I am not because I get my bodyfat done and am in the high teens percentage wise.
I also find weight to be a bad measure of body health. Just scroll through this thread for proof. You will see 2 girls who are the same height and weigh the same yet have vastly different measurements. I do like weight for personal progress tracking but not as a target to reach. I've seem some bangin' bods who weighed 160 and you would never guess, and some flubbery fat girls at 130. Because BMI is based soley on height and weight and not lifestyle, body muscle, bone density... it's crap.

    Height: 5'3"
    Weight: 130 lbs
Problem areas: Inner thighs, stomach, upper arms..."love handles"
Exercise: eliptical, walking the dog, sometimes yoga or a step class, and i'm starting belly dancing on monday!
I was about 115 when I started dancing, 126 when I stopped. I really want to start again but still feel too big. I'm trying to stick to eating egg whites, yogurt, v8, salmon, brown bread, and a chicken breast everyday. i lost 10 pounds in the last 2 weeks by doing this (went from 140 to 130). It's hard cuz i'm the biggest junk food addict...candy, pizza, fried chicken...anything. it's frustrating cuz i used to stuff my face with it 24/7 and look great, then i blew up. like...i used to eat an entire bag of starburst or w/e as a "snack" at work, then get home and order and eat an entire pizza! metabolism finally caught up with me i guess. ahhh...thanks for listening to the vent, and congrats to everyone who's already achieved their goals!

    Measurements: 34-27-34
Exercise of choice: running, weight training like twice a week
Problem Areas: the usual...trying to get rid of my love handles, i have a achieved a semi flat looking stomach but still have some abdominal fat to go, inner things, and some body fat on outter thighs. If you have an issue with eating you might want to try ALLI, it will force you into changing your eating habits out of fear of shitting your pants. Jillian Micheals is the shit! I have Brighthouse digital cable and if you go to the free section they have free exercise on demand and they have like 6 videos of hers on there for FREE. the metabolism booster rocks! unless its on my cheat day, i only eat whole grains, fruit, vegetables, lean protein, and fat free or low fat dairy products. i'm guessing im in the last 10lbs zone (i dont keep track of my weight loss, im more focased on fat loss) so i have incorporated interval running into my cardio. i drink green tea like a mad woman, 1 glass of red wine a day max, i dont do it every day, and a multivitamin!

You lost 60lbs in 2 weeks? Jesus H, I didnt even know that was possible. And I thought it was a lot when my friend lost 100lbs in 8 months due to a stomach disorder.

I, like Lemonz, was always naturally thin. A touch over 5'8" and about 108lbs, naturally. And I could plow back an entire dinner serving of fettucine alfredo at lunch (I worked at the Olive Garden when I was 1 and not gain an ounce. So for me, being in the 130s is higher than I am comfortable with. I am also "skinny fat". I am a size 4, but I have like 25% body fat.

I just always consider myself a work in progress. It's been slow the past two weeks, so I'm trying to make myself look a little more stripperiffic for the summer.
